Survived by the skin of our teeth. Relieved but not happy. Such a poor season.

strange one this - all logic says that with the budget he had, and the goodwill, and the players on hand at the start of the season, that this has turned into a thoroughly underwhelming season but, for a reason I can't really fathom, my heart is staying keep him and see where next season gets us.

If we do stick with Mellon then lessons need to be learned. A complete root and branch review needed now to look at how the club can move forward at this level.

Well that was a waste of money this season. Season Ticket purchased but couldn't be bothered to watch that rubbish. Whistle for my money next season, will pick and choose my games and may come to more if Mellon walks. A manager with the pedigree of Jake King.

I always knew this season was going to ne about survival .. glad we have stayed up , build for next season , im a fan of micky give him next season but want him to bring in his own assistant manager.
Building a team next season without drama of woods, goldson, ginnelly being sold hope we can move on , always be a selling club because of attendances lets back micky see how he adds to the squad.

Frustrating yeah but I wouldn't say it's been a dreadful season. First goal for any promoted team is to stay up and we've done it. Obviously we'd have liked to have done more, and yes all the other promoted sides have done better (although the fact they've all acclimatised so well/spent so much makes it a harder division to survive in, obviously) and I wouldn't want us to have another season like it, but I'd say it's a 6/10. Maybe 7.
As for "by the skin of our teeth" well that's frankly b******s. There's another game to go and we're safe and we haven't been in the relegation zone for ages (can only have been in the drop zone for a few weeks over the whole season anyway). Wonder if Wigan have also won the title "by the skin of their teeth" as they're not even mathematically assured of it yet. What a disastrous season it's been for them...

As they say, the table never lies. We're s**t. No doubt about that. But there are other sides s**tter and hence we stay up, they go down. Wouldn't say that were about luck.

Still feel MM should stay You must be ******* joking? He's broken a club record today of 13 HOME league defeats in 23 home games with the 9th highest budget in the league. Behave. Great cup manager. For that he gets my vote.

MIckey Mellon giving a very good interview. Has referred several times to sitting down with the chairman.
He was called a fraud on here the other day. I challenge the poster to listen to the interview and reconsider his view.
I'd love him to be successful here next year. We'll see.

Phew.
The defence is a problem. Losing Connor and Woods was always going to hurt. But two iffy new full backs and some rather over age defensive midfielders was down to MM.
Yes we had the third worst defence in the league, only Colchester and Crewe were worse... but we scored as many as 2nd placed Burton, and more than 5th placed Bradford.
My own view is that we would have scored still more if we had paired Mangan and JLAA more often than making the zero-goals Vassell a permanent fixture for so many games. And of course that too is down to MM.
Next season, I hope we will try and find another good striker who can fit in with Mangan, JLAA and Whalley. I do feel we should retain Akpa-Akpro. He does make things happen: lots of assists and now he is scoring. Maybe we can find another better striker... I doubt we will find two.
Maybe that quality striker can be another astute loan signing, brought in to replace Kai-kai... because he was an inspired signing. And that we must give MM credit for.
Then we must retain our Swiss 'keeper and create a defence that doesn't resemble a Swiss cheese. Plus we need a truly creative player in the middle.
Can MM do that? If so he should stay.
And while our emotions are over the place... think how Donny fans must feel, seeing their side throw away the lifeline of a 1-0 lead at Crewe, only to be beaten 3-1 by the worst side in the league. I bet they are pretty angry.

In my opinion he needs to wait for the dust to settle, sit down with the chairman and see what his plans are for next season.

Today summed up the season really. Some good play by Town and chances not taken; odd tactical decisions; stupid errors; great fighting spirit; Ian Black being a total dick
Glad we have stopped up and hope the 45th summer of learning from our mistakes proves we have actually learned from our mistakes!

Losing Connor and Woods was always going to hurt. True but then that's the nature of the beast at our level. I doubt we're the only club who have lost influential players. You have to get on with it, adopt and bring in other who can do a job. Granted we lost them close to the season start but we've had months to get things in place. We're currently one win in 9 at the minute and in all that time we're kept no clean sheets. Not one. So yeah we lost players but we're had plenty of time to get things right and he's simply not been capable of doing so. Looking to the stats the defense is indeed the issue. Has been all season yet he's not been able to fix it. Just hope he has learnt from the mistakes made and he has an idea how to rectify it for next season.

I am with Welshshrew on this one I feel Micky should be given next season with the support he needs to get the division one pedigree players he needs to be competitive it strikes me the season has exhausted him trying to overcome the lack of funds available for the quality of the player we need and dealing with a tricky injury list....not too mention the amount of red cards we could have done without...my concern is the players we do have under contract such as Black and Wellens do not fill me with great joy and optimism at the moment

Going to take some work to sort out that mess of a squad. Older journeymen still on contract, several key players not ours, sieve-like defence. Big job this summer - hope it won't go like our previous three L1 summers.

Strangely one of our most succesful seasons for years away from home. would have been dead and buried without it
I'm in the Micky to stay camp, it's Roland who needs to get a grip and some advice from someone who knows football... And I don't mean a CEO as I firmly believe it was RW and MW going on about reaching the wages Capp way too early even before the end of the transfere window in August.
If RW thinks next season is one to build up the bank balance he may as well go now cos the pressure will be on him if we have another similar season (or worse)

Of course should we go to Swindon and win it won't be so much by the skin of our teeth. I have been cheesed off with our home form too but if it takes this season to be MMs learning curve then so be it.
I can quite see why he sounded tired in his interview. I am tired and I'm not the manager
Be careful what you wish for in a new manager too. His naivity in this league nearly caught him out perhaps next season will be better. One thing for sure we would be very fortunate indeed to get another manager so interested not only in the team but also the youth set up, the Shropshire community and the fans.
So fingers crossed for next Sunday and a successful recruitment campaign.

"Lessons need to be learnt" is a tired, worn out cliche much used by our Social Services after yet another child has been killed by their parent(s). They never are of course. And from memory, if held that would be at least the 3rd root and branch review . So have lessons been learnt?

Previously these have been done when we were in league two. Fresh approach needed to see what the club should do to get with it at league 1. The lessons that need to be learnt should be from the likes of Walsall and Burton. Mellon was talking about lessons needing to be learnt in his interview and yes it is a tired old mantra but doesn't change the fact that Mellon and the club need to start walking the walk in terms of learning.
