Feel sorry for Rodgers. Yes it's been an average start to the season for them but I like the way he tries to get his teams playing and how he tries to get that approach throughout the club from youth onwards - a long term approach which sadly clubs don't have the appetite for these days.
I think most managers would be mad to take that job - such expectation on your shoulders without the resources to match the other big clubs in the division - It's a tough one!

Think he was ****ed by Suarez leaving after World Cup biting antics, double-****ed by Daniel Sturrdige's never ending injury crisis and treble ****ed by Raheem Sterling and his agent.
He probably feels like Traci Lords after a hard day on set now!

I certainly don't feel sorry for him, a fully paid up member of that small band of current managers who belief their own hype, who've done some FA courses and media training and suddenly think they are going to revolutionise the game. Limited in the extreme and eventually ran out of time. Having said that ant I do take your point about it being an almost impossible job currently. Liverpool are living on times 30 years hence and have never really got to grips with that fact. Jamie Carragher live on SKY just said " the problem with Liverpool is that we still think we are a big club, and we arn't " pretty much sums it up for me.

I think he is a fantastic manager and has got Liverpool playing excellent football. My only criticism of him is his defensive failures. I think he should have removed Skrtel and tried to solidify his back four and to get a better, more consistent keeper. I think Liverpool have come on a long way under his tenure and have been one of the most exciting teams in the prem to watch on certain occasions. You're correct about expectation. Liverpool are not a giant club and cannot compete with the likes of United, Chelsea, City and Arsenal each season. They are the same as Tottenham, except for the fact that they can boast about a glorious history. To be successful squad in the premiership you need leaders - letting Gerrard go was a big mistake for Rodgers. It was refreshing to see a manager bring in so many youth players and that is also a shame about his dismissal. I'm sure he'll take over another club and prove what he is capable of.

Right decision if it was made at the end of last season, but the wrong timing now. Not sure Klopp would want to go there either if that is what the owners are thinking. Chelsea will finish above Liverpool this season!

I think they are going through what Man Utd went through between the late 60s and early 90s ( except they haven't yet been relegated). If they get the right man and give him similar time as United gave Fergie before he won anything, they could become a force once again. Claudio Ancelloti has been touted on Five Live, along with Klopp. Not heard Rob and Larry mentioned yet though.

The guy has the potential to be a great manager but the job was far to much far to soon, he's clearly massively out of his depth and that's been obvious for a while. He had an incredible season providing possibly the best/most entertaining football I've ever seen but his nativity when it comes to the defensive side of the game is simply shocking. It amazes me how he stated that defending is easy yet Liverpool's defenders play like there on bath salts or something. Its not like the defense was ignored in the transfers either, there's at-least been over 80m spent on that but it's as bad as ever.
He should take over a side like Newcastle, think he'd do wonders there. Wish him the best. Feel sorry for Rodgers. Yes it's been an average start to the season for them but I like the way he tries to get his teams playing and how he tries to get that approach throughout the club from youth onwards - a long term approach which sadly clubs don't have the appetite for these days. Liverpool is the second biggest club in the country only behind United regardless of the place in the league. City and Chelesa obviously have vastly more financial power due to there owners but Liverpool are hardly short of cash, the fact is Rodgers has spent 300M and thus far at best only 30M have been somewhat of a success in Sturridge, Coutinho and Can. A few others have big potential but with the money spent you expect far more. Liverpool should be a champions league team or at worst falling very few points short while winning trophies on a regular basis in the process.

Look at their stadium and club set up... They can't accommodate the supposed demands of their fan base and they cannot hold on to top quality players. If you look at City and the development they've had around the stadium, you can see that they're going to be a huge club for a long time. Carragher was correct and I said it on social media a few seasons back, Liverpool are no bigger than Tottenham. They have a rich history in terms of success but other than their Champions League in 05 they have failed to consolidate themselves as a top four team. Arsenal get targeted every season yet they consistently finish in the top four. United, Chelsea and City rarely finish outside of the top four. I genuinely think Liverpool fans are like Newcastle fans, very ambitious and passionate, but a bit blinkered at times.

Don't necessarily agree he's an especially good manager- certainly hard to argue they're better now than when he took over, and he's definitely so far up himself that it's become funny. The timing is bizarre though. Thought he should have gone in the summer, lost the fans after the Stoke thrashing. A new manager would have been able to get the squad he wanted and have time to work with them, but now will be thrown in halfway through a season. The start was not great but hardly disastrous - can only assume they have someone of the calibre of Klopp or Ancelotti lined up.

But like all Liverpool fans you completely miss the point as to your actual status in the world game. You were good for 20 years some time ago, that's it ! To compare yourselves with Real, Barca, Bayern and United in global appeal is ludicrous..and until you stop doing that and concentrate on getting the basics right you will continue to live in the glories of a bright generation and ignore the current situation

Also find it hard to agree with the sentiment that he's been hard done by with Sterling's "actions". He got £40m for a kid who was below par last season - same way he got a huge amount of money for Suarez and failed to adequately replace him.

I rarely feel sorry for managers who have been sacked at a Premiership club as the realities are that Rodgers will no doubt receive a substantial pay off and will end up doing a mediocre job at some other club soon enough. Probably Newcastle.

It's not really about Rodgers' choices. The club's transfers are decided by a committee of which Rodgers is only one voice. No wonder he looks disillusioned a lot of the time, trying to put a gloss on things. Probably biting his lip about things he can't say. He could only work with the over valued mediocrity the committee gave him, wasting the Suarez and Sterling money. Quite a good article on the BBC website. Rodgers will be back with a club that doesn't have owners who don't understand the game.

Without a doubt the right decision, but a bad time although before the internationals is better than in the middle of important fixtures. He's had three years to improve his defence as that is what cost him the title and he has done absolutely nothing to improve the defensive quality of it, when you play against the real good sides you won't see much of the ball so your defence needs to be spot on.
There's absolutely no 'Liverpool' influence left at that club anymore and the signings that Rodgers has made have all been fairly average. The ones that look reasonable are just exactly that, reasonable. Danny Ings may have done 'okay' but he is not the sort of player who is good enough to be playing Champion's League football. Benteke is not going to be the superstar either, when he is on form he looks really good but he has had huge amounts of form trouble for Villa for extended periods of time.
It seems a huge majority of Liverpool fans wanted him to go, whether or not they decided that 1 year ago, 1 month ago or yesterday! So if that's the case it's probably the right decision, there are also quite a lot of better managers out there because that is not exactly hard. He had no idea how to build a defence, no idea how to man-manage players, no idea how to install confidence in the fans and given his last season and this early season failure.
The best thing he actually did was getting 40M+ for Sterling, he has ripped City off big time! If De Bruyne is 50 and he is 49 then this world is a bizarre place, Sterling will never come close.

Let remember, when we played Swansea and beat them 3-1 when he was in charge he was very glowing about our club, the town and the team. He said he had an affection for this club. To be fair it was because his ex wife was from Shrewsbury in the main and since then he ditched here for a younger model.... but it was nice to see him be nice about us back then! www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/14623612www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/14539194Kinda always though he seemed a decent bloke since then, mad confident and positive though. Ran its course with Liverpool though, and I admire the club giving him the start of the season to try and turn it around... some times it works some times it dont. The BBC articles are worth a read though.
