Personally I don't think we are that far off being an ok side.
Sadler has to go though, and Mellon needs to give himself a shake and stop the brain dead mistakes.
I also think Lawrence's role needs looking at as he's not succeeding in his midfield general/captain role.

Another way of looking at this that we've played 11 games and have been totally out played for 90 minutes only twice. To be honest my memory of our last spell in L1 was that as dire and disjointed the football was at times, there weren't too many times we were outclassed. The difference for me was goals, well allround quality in the final third. And despite starting this season with plenty of options, that could be our downfall again

And despite starting this season with plenty of options, that could be our downfall again For me current problem lies with the full backs (stating the obvious) and centre of midfield..... it's not strong enough. If MM wants to play with 2 wingers his 2 centre midfield cannot cope especially against a formation of 3 in midfield. Play a 433 or 4132 and the full backs cannot cope, to be honest they cant cope regardless of formation! The young wingers on loan for much of their flare has not worked, when they make youthful errors we struggle to win back possession and are under pressure, they are a luxury and we will concede goals with them both playing in the same 11. Strengthen with a decent CB and left Wing back and stick with 352 is possibly a solution and hope that Black is good in midfield. I think we have to play with 3 Centre midfields. I actually think we might get Tootle might be ok as a right wing back, with 3 CB behind him. Sort that and the strikers will get a better and more frequent service and score goals.

I agree Shrewder, my first years were watching us in the old division 2, the bigger clubs back then had more money but we still competed, why can't we now? Burton seem able to with less money than us. We were on the receiving end of some hefty beatings in the old div 2 as well that I remember... 1-5 at home to Ipswich 0-4 at Bristol City, Barnsley, Newcastle , QPR, Rotherham, Middlesbrough, Millwall, WBA, Portsmouth Not to mention a few 1-4 like Derby and countless 0-3 Yet we managed 10 seasons with a few finishes in the top 10 (highest was 8th I think) no mean feat! fans seemed to back the team more then, or is that memory playing tricks!!!!!! We also gave out some hefty beatings don't forget, 5-1 home and away against Huddersfield in the same season. 5-1 at home to Leeds.

We did, I suppose my point is that we should take the 3-0 defeat on the chin, it doesn't necessarily mean we are doomed!

Just writing about those wins reminds me what great days we had in division 2..

I wouldn't disagree, I remember walking out early quite a lot in that season because the football on display was so dull. But despite that we weren't on the end of too many hammerings (except at the end where we lost the plot), the problem was we drew too many games and didn't score enough goals. I thought this season would see an improvement with the options we had, maybe its the service they are getting which is the issue rather than the strikers. I said on another thread that in the Crewe, Blackpool & Dale games we thought we had lots of chances and were unlucky to lose 2 of them but in reality the keepers didn't have too many saves to make. Even on Saturday we had quite a lot of possession early on but never looked like scoring

I guess we'll never know, but I can't help wondering. Is Mike Jackson being introduced here as a late contender for scapegoat of the week? Was MJ responsible for much of last seasons success? I just can't help wondering! I have seen some excellent football played by Town this season. I feel pretty sure we will pull it round. Need a settled first team and time for the squad to gell. Goldson and Woods where always going to be a big loss and hard to replace, but not impossible!

Do people really walk out of games early?
Give your head a wobble.

So he might (just might) have relied on any observations given to him by MJ.

At times our overall play hasn't been too bad but we certainly lack a cutting edge so to speak. I was also really annoyed that MM didn't make changes at Coventry on Saturday . Personally I would have liked to see Whalley given a run but there you go. I agree with your comment Matron , we will pull it round but need a settled first team . The trouble is I don't think MM knows what his best starting 11 is . Onward and Upward . Good post by the way .

And that, m'lud, concludes the case for never leaving a football match early.

as bad as the first half was on saturday i find it bizarre why someone wouild give up a day to travel to watch the town at great cost and leave halfway through the game i fully expected coventry to beat us before i even left home but this is football some days anything can happen and some days it does, and no matter how certain you are of a defeat you take hope with you you'd have missed quite a few great memories had you left certain games at half time just don't go at all i say i think saturday proved my point ;-)
