Its widely being quoted as a million pound deal, £750k initially, plus one journalist stresses a fat sell on. We'll never really know, but averaging out what seem to be the more sensible rumours we've cleared nearly £2m in fees (assuming all games payments are triggered) this week plus decent sell on clauses. It's a shame to loose talent but that seems decent business to me, assuming we reinvest in better players. Only if the decimal points have been put in the right place !!!!!!!

Every cloud has a silver lining .

Time to get Wes back in and blood mcnight, perhaps we'll have someone who can play a defence splitting pass to our strikers instead of sideways, backwards and hoof it

When August came some of us were getting edgy that Goldson and Woods were still here to run down their contracts. Now they've gone, people are edgy that good players have left. Come on, we all knew this would happen - especially with hindsight!
Good luck Ryan Woods. Technically, probably the best player I've seen at Salop. Would have loved to see him played further forward but never mind, it was great while it lasted.

Good luck for the future Ryan, good bit of business for Salop once again. Anyone who thinks we could have kept Goldson and Woods is deluded. have had a look and we don't have a forum member called deluded

Disappointed that one of my all time favourite STFC players has left but pleased to hear some of the transfer figures being banded about. Not the greatest of timing just before the window shuts and just after cancelling the contract of Martin Woods but a no brainer for the club really. Hope all goes well for Ryan and he continues to develop at Brentford. And to those who thought he was a sideways passing non goal scorer, well I hope we produce many many more like him ..

I know we're a selling club, but the heart and soul of the promoted team has been ripped apart now. Goldson, Woods, Micky D and even Mangan to a lesser extent have now all gone. They all played a massive part in getting us promoted and we were told 'we're building something here, we don't need to sell'. Then before the first game of the season, the chairman is having to put his hand in his pocket to secure 2 player contracts. It seems slightly contradictory to me.
I'm all for securing the financial status of the club, but I genuinely thought we were pushing for the Championship in 2 or 3 years time. I struggle to see this happening now and can see us back in League 2 next year. I'm a realist btw not a pessimist!!

The two games I have seen this season, Woods was by far our best player. And second best at Bradford, I thought, was Goldson. Not optimistic now.

Leutwiler, Grandison, Lawrence, Collins, JLAA, Clark, Wesolowski and NKP all played a part and they're still here.

Goldson and (especially) woods are two of the best players we have ever produced.
They could have gone much earlier (and for much less) but have gone having helped get us back into league 1. They will take some replacing but i do believe we have many players more than good enough to compete at this level, two rear players coming back from serious injury and a number with the potential to step up if they continue to develop.
The season is at an early cross roads and the players left really need our support over the next few games to try and overcome the recent outgoings
Good luck and a huge thank you Ryan. A very bright light who sadly shone all too briefly in Salopia

Leutwiler, Grandison, Lawrence, Collins, JLAA, Clark, Wesolowski and NKP all played a part and they're still here. True, but I think team morale must have taken a hell of a dent. The club are giving mixed messages - saying we want to be in the Championship, we don't need to sell - then do the opposite and we are struggling to put together money for 2 out of contract players. Hardly seem to be sticking to the plan!

I think Woods will be a revelation for Brentford and a bright future awaits. Good business to get a decent sell on fee by us and let's hope the money now gets visibly invested in the team.
Personally I'm not convinced Ryan Woods really found his true role playing for us and maybe MM has a few surprises yet in shaping the team he wants. The attacking midfielder coming from Fulham is perhaps a sign that MM wants the side to be more positive and maybe a more permanent attacking midfielder signing is in the pipeline for January.
Good luck Ryan Woods, got given his chance at RB and grabbed it with both hands. That deserves a lot of respect, especially for someone who at the time was young, inexperienced, out of position and playing at a difficult time for the club.

Hardly seem to be sticking to the plan! I don't see why this should affect morale. They're pros, they see this all the time. They'd expect Goldson and Woods to move on and make the best of their careers, just as they'd surely expect the promotion winning squad to change - as every squad changes, every summer. If morale's taken a dent, it should be because results (and most performances) haven't been good enough. It's still very early days for this season though.

It were going to happen sooner rather than later I suppose but even so, sorry to see him go. Not seen much of Town of late but whenever I did he stood out every time. Good luck Woods.
Early days yet but I ain't half got a funny feeling of déjà vu. Someone touched on this on another thread, each time we've got promoted it seems a short time after we're actually a weaker squad in place than what we had when we got promoted. That doesn't seem to be the best way to go about consolidating in this division. Rum.

Good luck Woodsy - it was inevitable really - but news of an upgrade to training facilities while not replacing arguably our two best players is hardly going to excite supporters. I can't see any immediate boost to the home attendances in the near future after this.

Personally I take with a pinch of salt any message that comes out of the Club.

I thought the message was we won't sell unless it is for the right money which presumably it was. We have to be realistic surely and appreciate that in this money led football world we live in, clubs like us have no option but to sell to survive.
The lads last night did well. Ok not a league match but perhaps the type of game needed to start getting them to gel together as a team. I for one thoroughly enjoyed seeing them - those who weren't there missed what could be the start of our new season with new players.

Woods not starting for Brentford at Leeds today, but is on the bench. Goldson once again doesn't make the Brighton squad. Knowing how Connor loves playing, I wouldn't be surprised if he wishes he was running out at Roots Hall in a Town shirt this afternoon.
