Supporter shouted at by MM always shouting out meaningless criticism. Told by MM to shut up and start supporting the team Fully justified. MD continued absence due to analysis of last seasons games , found to be culpable for about 29 goals. Not good for a defender Really? At fault for 29 goals? Where did you get that daft figure from: cloudcuckoostats, com? We only conceded 31 goals. Are you really saying that MD was to blame for all but two of them??? I must go through the video highlights again. This should be fun! And he didn't play in every game... so the analysis must have shown that he was culpable for the goals we conceded, even when he wasn't playing. You're right... that is not good for a defender!! In fact I think he was at fault for at least three or even four of the goals this season. No covering, no tracking back... he wasn't even on the bench... shocking defending!

Silly to even attempt to compare him to Simpson. Nothing worse than having a clueless muppet shouting abuse at his/your own team for 90 mins but maybe not the best thing for the manager to challenge him rather than the poor sods that have to suffer him each week. I'm sure that the decision to let MD move on is based on the lads output over the last season. Not sure if he was to blame for anything near 29 goals. We did only conceed 31 in the league last season. Talk about a weak link??

If it cheers anyone up, our official website thinks we drew with Millwall.
This season though defeats to Chesterfield and now Burton as well as a draw with Millwall means that Town are in uncharted territory.

And I would have to question nicko's observation that Tootle and Sadler had good games. I thought Tootle had an excellent game yesterday, he's impressing more each week. But he was done far too easily for the goal Sadler looked solid yesterday and again an improvement on recent performances

First time I've seen Mickey rattled. Ranting at the fourth official and the useless Lino, and arguing with supporters and telling them to "shut up", is not the cleverest thing he'll ever do in his career. Seemed to be plenty of fans that appreciated him telling the moaner to shut up and support the team when he did it. Diabolical

Well working on these stats then it means, if my memory serves me well, that the other two were down to mistakes by Woodsy and MD scored more goals as well! Doesn't mean that Woods isn't the best player we have just that everyone makes mistakes and I for one would never blame a young player for this. i don't for one minute believe that MD was responsible for 29 goals. As far as I can see is all he is done wrong is want to stay when the management wanted him to move on for financial reasons not of his making. I doubt MM will play him sadly - just to make the point and I have to say I will be disappointed in him for this.

Thought Burton got it just right tactically yesterday. Defended with a very solid shape and restricted us mainly to chances from set pieces then hit us on the break. Bit like watching England in the World Cup.
That said, at times we did play some decent stuff and occasionally got behind the back four but were let down by poor execution. Collins dragging it wide, Akpa-Akpro and Tootle both failed to deliver decent crosses when in behind the back four.
In fact, lack of crossing (aside from corners which were generally well delivered yesterday and should have delivered at least a goal) was a feature. Whatever people say about Demetriou and Gayle, I'm sure that both could deliver a better cross than I've seen from Sadler, Tootle or even Brown so far.
To be fair to Brown, he's not naturally a wing back and doesn't seem comfortable in the position at all. Seems to be conflicted with himself all the time where his natural instinct is to overlap but worries about being out of position. Case in point yesterday was when Ogogo's smart back heel had both him and the defender completely flummoxed. Also got dragged inside too often just aimlessly following the play. Couple of times Woodsy looked to spread the ball wide to where JB should have been only to find him chasing it out of play. That said, could have had a couple of worldies to his name so clearly has ability. I just don't think this is the right formation for him. If we are going to play him in this system, I honestly feel that he might be better off behind the front two like Bobby Grant last season.
Also, substitutions yesterday; switching the two strikers with ten minutes to go seemed an odd move, particularly as we had them under pressure at the time. I'd have liked to see Whalley come in for Ogogo and give us a bit more spark, something to unlock their defence with maybe.

Thought the subs really took the wind out of our sails and it was all Burton after that. Odd move although last week subs did work v Oldham so it's swings and roundabouts
Do think Wes and NKP coming back will help but really struggling to take many positives from the season so far and talk of manager arguing with fans before August is done is concerning.

He was spot on to have a go at that supporter. Criticising fans wasn't the cleverest thing Paul Simpson did either. There again were is he now? Unemployable as a manager?

Toothless performance today a draw would of been fair but that's all I will be the first to say it can't see Mellon being here long if results stay the same two hard away games coming up now pressure on him today he already arguing with fans behind the dug out today a few choice words spoken Sorry Clive but that is absolute b******s!! Toothless performance?? Pressure on MM?? It's the end of August and I think MM has earned the right to lead this team in League 1 for quite a while don't you think?

Simpson.
Manager at Stockport and Northwich, then coach at Derby and Newcastle.
Now unemployable as a manager maybe. But what does he care?

May have been set up(exaggerated 29 maybe) but certainly a high percentage nonetheless. That's the reason for his absence, not off the field antics

Toothless yes one shot on target in 90 minutes speaks for it self the team lacks pace and leadership with our two fastest players sat on the bench Both who played so well at Oldham Ponce he replaced our two forwards yesterday any threat we posed had gone and it was the signal for burton to push on which they did to great effect How long should we give him well 4,mores league games I expect at leastv6 points the two home games are winable if not I expect his time to be over I really hope I'm saying well done after the game next week but if no marked improvement trust me I will make my feelings known I think the bottom 6 in the division now if we look again in April won't be far off the same Why our best players are sat on the bench weekin week out only Mellon knows

He does have a point though about Whalley and Clark being left on the bench plus a highly unimaginative straight switch of our 2 strikers 8 minutes from time when JLAA was our only outlet.

Not for one second going to pretend there aren't a few causes for concern but if we even contemplate a managerial change nine games into a season in a higher division then I think I'm done with football.

Decent and improved performance versus the dire effort against Chesterfield I thought. Still not scaring defences enough and we need Ryan Woods running at them and developing his role to include runs from centre circle to 18 yard box. If we're just going to leave it to Collins and AA then we'll be relegated because we simply won't score enough goals. However if we show teams that we're the home side and get forward on mass, then more men in the box equals more chances and we'll comfortably stay up in my opinion.
The improvement shown yesterday was a good sign, even if we did lose. I thought we bossed the game and were unlucky not to have won the match ourselves, but positivity is key, both to keep fans interested and to improve confidence.

We've been wanting Ryan woods to run at defences for at least a full season now but nothings changed, to show teams we're the home team we need to inject more urgency into our line up,hence the need to change the team, something which MM appears reluctant to do, hence the early rumblings of discontent

End of September is time to really judge things, but definitely wouldn't like to end next month with no wins on the board
So far not too much difference to our last two starts to League One 12/13 we had 5 points after five games; 13/14 we had 6 points after 5 games
So hardly set the league one scene alight at the start of the season for a while

The main difference is that this team and manager are capable of turning it around.
I never got that impression last time round.

Any claim we have returned to last seasons system are ridiculous. We had two proper wing backs and two defensive styles midfielders alongside someone like Bobby Grant. Yep, that's exactly how I interpreted our system on Saturday - rather lopsided. It's a case of hitting on the right balance and I'm sure Micky will get there before too long. I agree with Nicko, I don't get the impression we're locked into some hopeless downward spiral - I think we can compete in this division - but we need a win for the sake of confidence as much as anything else.

But the reason we have yet to hit the right balance is MM's signing of 2 full backs who are not wing backs and a plethora of CMs, none of whom are suited to play the Grant role at the head of a diamond midfield apart from possibly Clark who gets no further than the bench, and then trying to revert to as close as we can get to a 3 5 2 by sticking Brown on the left. But as dmshrew said, he was more a left sided midfield player than a wing back. So when Duffy scored in the 90th minute Brown had failed to track back with him. You can see Lawrence shouting at Brown in the video.

Certainly something in what you say - we seem to have recruited for a conventional 4-4-2 but Micky seems to want to play with more caution than that offers, so is either playing a diamond (which in reality is often just a very narrow 4-42 with no proper widemen) or the system we saw on Saturday. I think he needs to bite the bullet and either play a conventional 4-4-2 with Whalley involved, or play a 3-5-2 with an attacking midfielder like Clark at the tip of the diamond. Ogogo seems a decent player, but that's surely not his position. If we're a little bit more positive in our tactics and team selections I think the wins will come.

Think you are being a little bit of a drama queen suggesting we're 300% worse off than a couple of seasons ago. Statistically correct but in practical terms our points difference is just one win and a draw different - which we could easily have got with a little luck. Too short a period to leap in the lifeboats and suggest this team is only capable of getting 14 points this season Also in those two seasons we went out of the League cup in the first round, this season we beat higher league opposition and took a premier league to extra time, so overall very little difference to the starts so far.

I didn't start comparing you did, but couldn't accept that so far there wasn't much difference when you look at 'the facts', one of which is it's the worst start to the league for at least 12 seasons and I gave up looking then, so not panicking but disappointed with the points total after 5 games with 2 difficult away games to come. Perhaps you can cheer me up with the posatives?
