Exactly my point, an admittance that he was used as a scapegoat and that a Testimonial was much deserved ( but the chaiman at the time denied him this) I wont tell you what I think off Mal Starkey but could he be the fly in the ointment?

If that's the case, then perhaps Bell, Kasule, Irvine or Pittman could be persuaded to enlighten us as to what efforts Colin made to keep them in line? Ian McNeill is still alive too and would know what went on.
The chairman at the time was Ken Woodhouse, later to be President. Last I heard of him he'd retired somewhere to the South Coast.

Sorry to push the point but why does Colin still hold a grudge when no one at the club had any involvement in how he was treated? Perhaps he should have realised this and accepted the invitation that was offered.... It's a bit like hating all Germans because of what Hitler did during the war...... Years have passed, those involved have left the club, from what I can see everyone has nothing but respect for Colin so he had an opportunity to come back when invited by the current regime... No disrespect to Colin but he obviously isn't interested in the club and fans and wants to keep to himself. The fondness in the way he's remembered should be enough .. Unless he wants to come in from the cold of course when he would be welcomed with open arms and no harm in the club offering a last invitation

Personally I'd prefer some other way of marking his time and service to the club, such as naming part of the ground after him or an annual players award named after him
Was a massive fan of him as a player as he led the side just as I was starting to support the club, but as a couple of others have said its a long time since he played for us and a lot of fans won't remember him, and there is a danger a testimonial game wouldn't attract a great crowd.
Add in the distance thats grown between him and the club;the tax issues of the income from a testimonial and the difficulty in getting a decent opposition in the crowded fixture congestion, and I'd tend to look at other ways to build bridges with him and acknowledge the time he had at the club.

I still resent the fact Paul Edwards and Mickey Brown were released after nine seasons to prevent the club having to cough up for a testimonial the following summer.
Many deserved recipients of testimonials haven't been recognised by the club in the right manner and Griffin is one of them.

Can only echo the sentiments of others. Colin was one of my first Town idols. Would love to see him back in the bosom of the club to whom he gave so much.
Unfortunately I don't think that Colin would change his stance but perhaps in Matt Williams we have someone that could have a pretty decent stab at talking him round.
As for Paul Edwards and Mickey Brown... I'm not entirely convinced they were released simply because a testimonial was due but these are another two players whose commitment to the club we have failed to recognise properly. Hoping these days are behind us although I'm not sure when next celebrate a player spending a full ten years at the GM.

Those were the days before agents; Loyalty doesn't make money.

So nowadays we have examples like Nicolas Anelka. Since 1996 he's played for - PSG Arsenal Real Madrid PSG Liverpool - loan Manchester City Fenerbahce Bolton Chelsea Shanghai Shenhua Juventus - loan West Brom Mumbai City And is currently looking for another Premier League Club! He did of course also play for France until he abused the coach by saying 'va te faire enculer, sale fils de pute' (look it up on Wikipedia) and received an 18 match ban from international football.
