Colin Griffin has played more minutes for the club than any other player. He was the first player ever to score for the club in Division 2 now the Championship. Players used to have a Testimonial after ten years but the club refused for a reason never made public to the fans

Agree with posts on original thread about wondering if he would have anything to do with the club now.
Things have changed so much over the last twelve months perhaps this can be put right with a different approach

I love a good bandwagon as much as the next man but I'm not sure I can say yes without knowing the full facts behind why he wasn't given one in the first place.
Imagine, just imagine, if there really is a very good reason.

There was a good reason. It's called spite. I've spoken to people who knew Colin and June. He was very seriously hurt.
I also love the stubbornness shown by Colin. Believe me, I'm brilliant at it. (Got it from my Mum). She could fall out with some Juan, and never speak to them again. I've also done it. Even gloated at their demise. (At the time). Some I've regretted, some not.
They needed Juan of these.....

Yes. It's staggering that the guy who holds the record for appearances hasn't been recognised. Matt Williams is very good at building bridges and would suggest this should be directed to him.

It would certainly right a wrong.
We can't undo the ticketing arrangements for the Liverpool game but we can fix this.

Fairy muff then, but rather than just saying spite tell me/us what it's all about then.

Excuse my ignorance but is there anyone at the club now that was involved at the time of Colin's departure and subsequent fall-out? It wasn't the club or fans that made the decision to treat him so badly but the chairman at the time,,, If it was an ex chairman why does he feel so badly against the current long standing set up? He was treated badly and can rightly feel agrieved by his treatmennt BUT it was whoever was at the helm at that time he should blame, The club have tried to build bridges, reading the testimonial from the Legends announcement, and invited him as a guest of honour but he declined.
Would love to see him as an ambasador for the club with a role on matchdays but from what others have said he's not interested so perhaps he shhould reflect on who treated him so badly and accept the olive branch the club and fans have offered
(was RW any part of the board at the time)

Yes from me.
One of the finest servants this Club has ever had.
I agree that perhaps MW could be instrumental in possibly setting something up here.
Certainly a subject to be raised at the next Supporters Parliament.

Our Club President, Mal Starkey, was in post at the time that Colin was dismissed and subsequently denied his richly deserved testimonial.
Perhaps MW could have a word with him to ascertain the full facts as to what happened. I suspect that what he finds out should then form the basis of an apology from the Club and hopefully persuade Colin to take up the offer of a Testimonial.
Colin should be in no doubt whatsoever as to how highly he is regarded by the fans.

Would definitely support this. Probably getting ahead of myself seeing as we don't even know if he or the club would be up for it, but I wonder who would play? Some of the other legends from back in the day, well earned pot-bellies and all? Or the current squad - and if so, who against?

I love a good bandwagon as much as the next man but I'm not sure I can say yes without knowing the full facts behind why he wasn't given one in the first place. Imagine, just imagine, if there really is a very good reason. I'm with you on this one Matron. Does he deserve it, 100 % yes, but we need to approach the man himself and ask him if he agrees and accepts what the fans( not the club) are trying to achieve for him. Then we approach the club and put the request to them. At the end of the day it's the club who will be paying, not the fans. We could be putting him in a situation that he feels very uncomfortable about, he obviously seems to be a very quiet and reserved man. Also, JT , you are talking to the converted here on this board as it seems that many remember him from years ago. I would think that a majority of fans don' t know about him or have even seen him play! It's an age thing you O. B.
