We have a much better manager than last time and Mellon gets us to play controlling and exciting football. Last time we finished 14th or 16th of I remember correctly so beating that would be great success.
I think we'll have a good season consolidating ourselves in the division and hopefully Mellon will be able to invest and push on next year.

With having the spine ripped out of the side the last time we were promoted, we lost the momentum that newly promoted sides often have going into the new division. This week may see a couple of changes but generally we have the heart of last season's successful team plus some useful additions. Great competition up front and in central midfield should see us do better in L1 this time around. My concerns at this stage would be cover in the full back positions, enough quality out wide and finding a stable, steady central defensive pair if we are going to be playing 442.
So I predict a very creditable 10th with some thrills and spills along the way

Where are people now with their predictions and where we are?

No wonder this board goes into melt down sometimes, half the predictions mention the playoffs!

Think people are being overly optimistic like the last time we got promoted to League 1. I remember when we signed Paul Parry people predicted we would hit the play offs. Let's be a bit realistic and realise we aren't a big fish in a small pond now and adjust expectation accordingly. That said we have a better team than last time and I expect us to have a slow start and eventually settle around the 13th mark in the table. Bit of a step up for some players and it will take a few games to adjust, that said I think after that we'll get some good results against some of the average teams and be okay. Can't see us getting results against the bigger teams though. Grandison and AA to sign, 13th and a cup run and I'll be happy. Bump. How has everyone's predictions worked out?

Most are way too optimistic.
I predicted lower mid-table so not so far out if we finish 18th.

I think we will finish higher than some predicted but not as high as some hoped. I was clearly over optimistic.

I was also (as I always am) being optimistic with my 16th place prediction.

Am I still in with a shout? Only if you thought we'd adopted the Scottish system where teams near the bottom play off with teams from the League below.

Not too good, but my worries it seems were fully justified, in hindsight

I see no reason why anyone should score against us cheaply considering Leicester, Norwich and Blackpool didn't last year. Ouch! Chesterfield 7 Town 1 Town 1 Wigan 5

Not seen the new squad play yet so its a bit difficult to judge. Looks more likely we'll start the season with Goldson and Woods, and probably Grandison too which is good news. Defensively we should do ok and the mild field now seems to have more options and creative players The nagging doubt would be over where goals will come from. In tight games we'll really need to take out chances and while our strikers and good and hard working I'm not sure they are that clinical in front of goal As a starting point staying up would be fine, but definitely hoping we do better and have a sound base to work on post Christmas and get a top half finish Seems I was right about the strikers, but rather off on the defensive side and Grandison being good. My spelling is still terrible although, I might have been onto something about us having a mild field
