This area has always been a topic for debate in recent Shrewsbury squads and this season seems no different. Lawrence, Agogo, Woods (M) and Woods (R) have had very good pre-seasons and with Weso waiting in the wings, it's quite a problem for MM to know who to pick in what looks like being a 442 formation. Personally I'd go for Lawrence and Woods (R) to start against Millwall but there's certainly strength in depth in this area of the team. In fact, if Ryan Woods leaves, even though he would be greatly missed, it wouldn't seem a huge priority to replace him immediately.

I think Ryan Woods has already been replaced by the signings we have made. Pretty sure there is no need for that many centre midfielders to come in if one wasn't going out. Also Clarke to add to that list

He was most effective when he played just behind the striker last season but agree he has the attributes to play in the middle of midfield too.

Assuming Grandison signs, then I think we'll line up as follows:
GK) Leutwiler
LWB) Sadler CB) Goldson CB) Ellis CB) Grandison RWB) Tootle
CM) Ryan Woods CM) Lawrence CM) Ogogo
ST) Barnett ST) Collins

In a 4-4-2, like we played last night. MM tried Ogogo and R Woods. I don't think it worked and I felt when Lawrence came on their was a noticable improvement.

I think MM will use a horses for courses selection policy and formations will differ according to tactics and the opposition!

Agreed, only player I'd maybe have in the squad who has since left would be Weale maybe. That's all I can think of?

Weale had one excellent season with us. And one poor one.
He's recently signed a contract to become Yeovil's goalkeeping coach.

When he played wide right in front of Tootle, it plainly did not work. Maybe more to do with Tootle's poor performance than anything else. Clarke much better centre mid, or pushed up just behind the strikers. Only a young lad with bags of talent, I can see him getting better and better. I think this is only his second season as a first team player, so still learning. I have also said before that if Woods goes, hopefully for good money, we are well set up with what we gave got . We also have Wesolowski to come back in. All in all we are well set for League 1. Barnett up front for me, with one other, but not Collins who has been well off the pace this pre- season. Maybe JLAA.

Not wanting to rekindle the argument about whether we got the best out of Wildig, just hoping that Clark's undoubted ability isn't squandered. Terrific player on his day - and in the right position.

I don't think anyone could really replace Woods. You can put a player in the position sure, but there aren't any at this level who can do what he does.
Personally I'd like him here as long as possible as I think it's his control of the middle that will allow us to take the game away from other teams this season.
Without him, games are perhaps more exciting two and fro affairs, but with him we are likely to do much better.
The only down side I see is that when we control games, teams end up sitting behind the ball and we find it hard to then break them down. Maybe that won't happen so much in this division though? Wait and see I guess.

Can't see anything other than a midfield 3 regardless of how pre season has panned out. Far too much quality would be left on the bench if we go with just the 2. Woods, Woods and LL for me. Ogogo looks a decent find but with Weso fit quickly I can't see him getting much game time already.
Pretty sure we are looking to sell Woods. He's the one they'll cash in on if the offer comes.
