and at the same time Demetriou must be favourite for a pay off. I'm starting to think the same. We won't be paying Sadler to sit on the bench. Assuming we don't lose anyone else, I reckon Grandison and Jean-Louis are the final pieces of the jigsaw.

You'd have to think so. Really hope so too! JLAA is proving to be a very decent player on the wing and Grandison is one of our best players full stop.

Thing is if we are just 'playing them to show them off to scouts' then surely we'd play Caton etc?
I'm 90% sure they will be staying, why would you play an out of contract player who has no future at the club two weeks before the start of the season for a full 90 mins?

We still need someone to leave before signing up jg and or jlaa. I think Ryan woods might leave yet. I hope not. Would prefer some of the fringe players to find somewhere else.

I'm hoping some type of contract has been agreed to protect us changing their minds.
Especially this close to the start of the season.
In MM we trust.

And don't be surprised if we see Goldson playing for Town next season, either?!

Being the canny Scot that I am.... The nightmare scenario for me is that we somehow fail to offload either Ryan or Connor.
There is no doubt we've overspent to get to L1. We need to somehow claw back the losses from last season.
Not a popular view of course but a very realistic one. We need to get the best price possible for these guys. The 'hope they stay' stuff doesn't wash with me. Especially when we could be landed with a fraction of the clubs valuation via a tribunal next july/aug.

I'm not sure I agree.
We've known for a long time that we're a selling club which subsidised the rest.
Hart, Edwards, Taylor and ultimately still losing money.
I wonder if Mellon is putting a bit of pressure on the board by keeping those two even without signing them, until they're irreplaceable in the squad.
The interest from Leeds in Connor seemed pretty solid at 800k. Why would we reject that if we were desperate to sell.
I wonder if we're gearing up for a one season punt at league one. For all the messages about trimming the squad we don't seem to have lost too many and have signed some quality. I think a few people have looked at chesterfield and others and thought they could be competitive.

Personally, I'm hoping that it's just Woods that goes (plus Ginnelly of course) and that the money we get for those two is sufficient in the short term.
We are well stocked in midfield, whereas with NKP not back until Sept, Smith not ready for 1st team football and Grandison still not signed up, we look thin in central defence. I thought that Connor was the stand out player against Wolves yesterday.

I think Ryan Woods could be the key to us dominating teams in Lg1. If we can keep hold of him we really should.
It is in our mentality to think players who do well will leave, but MM has said repeatedly that he wants to keep the best players and push on.
I doubt he'd be here now if decent money had been tabled for him. Surely anyone serious about taking him and playing him would have him in their squad already?
We wouldn't be using him so much in these pre season games, as we would be favouring the players we know need to be ready come Millwall.
Likewise Goldson, he's played nearly every minute of our pre season so far so I can't see him going anywhere unless we are offered crazy money.
If Roland is serious about getting us to the Championship the best way to try and do it is hold on to these players.

There's a month left before the transfer window closes. The top clubs seem to leave their business late because they have the funds to dictate negotiations... which has a knock on effect on clubs lower down the pyramid. I wouldn't be surprised if we sell one of the starlets last minute, a pain as it would be for MM. But contingencies seem to be in place anyway.

I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for the opposite though!! .... Just have to wait and see won't we. One thing I am pretty sure of though is whatever happens JG and JLAA will be SALOP players.

If the players are contracted to us and have a good season in League 1 wont they be even more valuable by April 2016? Or am I missing the point?

I'd be staggered if JAA didn't sign for us. Don't if any Juan else noticed, but at the end of the season, JAA flung his arms around MM. I felt like shouting, "no tongues!".

Personally thought he and Barnett were at fault for the first goal with some poor marking. Reasonable performance but he needs to concentrate more on his defending basics and not his step-over skills?

Grandison's step-overs are now implanted well and truly in STFC folklore but really, since he's been a regular centre half, just how many times does he do them? Agreed he maybe could have done better for the first goal on Saturday but so could 4 or 5 of our players.

Word from my ever so reliable Goldson source informs me Goldson is going nowhere unless a really Big club?offer comes in. he is absolutely loving it at Shrewsbury and happy to stay for the time being. Hopefully STFC will get a contract extension agreed to ensure the value and potential increase of Goldson as a club asset!

Being CB does not stop him maraudingforward! Its even more entertaining!

If they're here Goldson and Grandison will certainly make contributions offensively as well as doing thieir day jobs

They looked really solid on Saturday, Paul. The back four are fair set to start the season already. Happy with the combination of the four.
Tyrone certainly looks a different player too.

Agreed, was chasing and leeping at everything. In fit shape no doubt and looks like he wants to knuckle down and stay somewhere long term. Could get us 15 goals next season no doubt, can't see any of the weaker defences looking forward to playing against him.

Goldson will sign an extension with Town in the coming weeks with an agreement that he can move on at the end of next season when his value is matched.
