More chance of a bigger settlement from a Premier League side? Wonder if Town had to give permission?

I think most of us are just relieved that the lad has turned up.......I was wondering how long we were going to leave it until a report to missing persons was filed! ;-)
I bet MM & MW are glad he is ok.....His agent is earning his corn though getting the lad trial games rather than a deal somewhere....well done sir!!

Three trialists were given the chance to impress Norwich tonight as their development side beat non-league Dereham, writes Gavin Caney. Defender Afolabi Coker, recently released by Leeds, striker Dernell Wynter of Enfield Town and wideman Josh Ginnelly started the under-21 outfit’s first pre-season friendly of the summer. While Coker looked powerful at the heart of a relatively untroubled City defence, it was Wynter and Ginnelly especially who caught the eye at Aldiss Park. Although the Premier League new-boys are hardly short of quality wideman, it was the latter’s presence which will have set tongues wagging among the top-flight. A host of clubs including Newcastle United are thought to be keeping tabs on the 18-year-old who broke into Shrewsbury’s first team last season as a scholar. The Shrews recently revealed the winger has failed to turn up for pre-season – despite being offered two professional contracts. The in-demand youngster will surely be tied down soon though after showing some quality bursts and appearing to possess the same attacking instincts that have helped the Murphy twins garner a hot reputation at Carrow Road. Wynter did his claims of stepping into the full-time game no harm at all by claiming an assist. His cut back was turned home by Cameron King at the second time of asking after his initial shot had cannoned back off Andy Wilton’s crossbar early on. City’s number 10 would have doubled his account had it not been for the post during what turned out to be a routine 1-0 victory for Norwich.

He didn't score. This one is likely to drag on a bit, I heard that they were running the rule over a few trialists this week then they'll decide if any go to Austria on a training camp. Final decision will be after that or possibly even after another friendly or two.

Watched the "Battle of the Canaries" this evening..Norwich 10 Hitchin 0. Young Josh will have to go some to get ahead of the 22 who featured in this match.

It would be courteous if either Ginnelly or his agent would phone the Club and tell MW and MM that he's not going to sign.
At present, it looks like the Club is being used as a last resort fall back if no deal elsewhere is forthcoming.

It's been about a week since the news from MM about no contact, things may of moved on where contact may of been made ahead of his trial with Norwich. Guess work I know. Things though seem to be coming to an conclusion with him not re-signing for us.

Don't care. He and his agent have shown complete disdain for the club, its staff and us lot as fans too. Good riddance.

"A host of clubs including Newcastle are thought to be keeping tabs on Ginnelly" (Today's Shropshire Star)
Looks like he'll be spending all July turning out for Norwich's U21 development squad whilst Norwich and these other clubs decide whether to put in a bid. MM won't be seeing him. He's STILL not got in contact according to the Star.
If I was MW or MM I think I could safely cross him off our wages bill. If that enables us to bring in say JLAA now then do it. We still of course would retain Ginnelly's registration in order to claim compensation.

And we'd still have to 'sign him' if he came back and accepted our offer at anytime, unless we withdrew it which we wont... You'd think a club like Norwich would have a word in his ear to make contact with his 'ex club' as we hold his registration and any 'buying club' would have to initially negociate with us

You seem to have a bit of an obsession as do may others about the actions of an 18 year old. Why? The various members of the management team will have experienced insolent teenagers elsewhere in their careers and dealt with them accordingly. I dont suppose they have broken sweat about the situation. Roll on the next ten days and three Championship teams and then the folk on here will have real match play to discuss and Ginelly issues will fall rapidly to the bottom of this messageboard.

That's a positive development and better news for our compensation prospects. I doubt he's affecting our squad planning now. Quite happy for him to do his deal somewhere and then see what we get.

Who cares let him go he'll be in the prem in few years so all youoaners that showing him hate you'll be crying over how we let him go without a fight. doubt he cares what we all think of him let him make something of him self, if you are offered more money to do the same job you take it simple. If he falls on his backside so be it mistakes are made, but the quality this lad has is immense. Let's get some money now and sneak in a clause

I just wish we could get to the conclusion of this saga! He has no interest in staying at STFC so the sooner someone snaps him up to play in there reserves for the next 3 years, the better!
Pay us the compensation and lets move on.

At present, it looks like the Club is being used as a last resort fall back if no deal elsewhere is forthcoming. But sounds like he hasnt got an offer elsewhere so it would be silly to reject an offer that will stay on the table surely? And town wont take it back as that would stop any future possible payment.

I think what really annoys posters on this board is the complete disrespect that this young man has shown MM and the club in general. Whether or not he is being led by his agent is another matter , certainly someone is whispering in his ear . I totally agree with northwestman , it certainly seems as if we are being treated as a last resort . Whether or not the lad has the required quality is yet to be proven . Time will tell but it looks as if his " quality " won't be on show at the GM .

Can't really disagree Downie , just p**ses me off with his attitude . Whatever the outcome hope the Town don't loose out completely and if he goes we get some compensation . Looks like he sees himself in a "win win " situation .

So where do we stand when it comes to a fee say he went to Norwich?? I thought the rules were changed to the detriment of lower league sides meaning we could only get around 25K ??

If the club had released him at the end of his scholarship,as with the other released scholars they don't give a damn about them,so why should he with the club.

If the club had released him at the end of his scholarship,as with the other released scholars they don't give a damn about them,so why should he with the club. This, I'm afraid. JG and JLAA were presumably mulling over their own careers on a well-deserved holiday, only to get back and find the club had filled up the wage budget with new players in their absence and now they aren't getting paid! Was the club wrong to do this? No. It's just the way it goes. It has to protect its own interests. But it's important that people remember it's not a charity - it's been "nurturing" Ginnelly for the past few years because it thinks he'll make it a fast buck, not because it's some bleeding-heart orphanage. For the record, I'm slightly irritated by this saga too, mostly because it's preventing us from being able to settle on a budget to finalize our own match squad (of which it's quite obvious Ginnelly isn't going to be a member) but you've got to remember that he's only a kid, this is probably the biggest opportunity of his lifetime, and we haven't even heard his side of the story.
