It's a shame we haven't signed him, a very good player.

lkqusjdclkabsdvlkjbqs....kin ell. what a miss by Mellon No offence, but posts like that irk me, 'What a miss' Why? How do we know Mellon went for him? He may have seen he was available and thought we didn't need him. - there is no evidence that there was any interest in him. Going of last season, we don't need wingers

Oh, I quite agree he's a very good player at this level, but I don't see where he would fit into our squad
We faired well last season with the 532 cum 352 formation, and it rendered wingers irrelevant, so we would have to 'accomodate him'
As soon as you start doing that you open yourself up to error

Whether we should've/could've gone for Duffy is therefore a legit question to ask on a fans forum IMO.

He is on loan until January and I presume could be recalled at anytime though.

You lot know my views on Duffy. Excellent player.
I've lost count of the number of posts about him I've put on here. Suffice it to say that some even regard me as Duffy's agent!
So I'm absolutely gutted that he's gone to Burton. I've clearly been passing water against the wind in hoping we'd one day have him in our side. I knew it was unlikely that he would be in Birmingham's plans this year.
I guess it's Rowett's links with Burton that may have counted here.

I do recall Burton had Collins on loan from Villa, before we then signed him that season when the loan period at Burton finished!

We won't sign him in January as he's still under contract with Birmingham and would cost us a fee.

Last season when teams set themselves up against our standard formation we struggled a tad.

That's written into the agreement between Birmingham and Burton. Oh well there you go, lets just hope Mr Whalley turns out to be just as good!

Mark Duffy was one of those players who would always seem to play a blinder against us, Josh Low was another player who always seemed to look a world beater whenever Salop were the opponents, not a bad signing for them but is he still the same player who left Morecambe?

He is an intelligent player imo who can actually get his head up and cross the ball with purpose . I really think he would do us proud in League 1 .

Lol! I thought of Northwestman as soon as I this news came through.
Obviously this will be Burton's big signing of the summer. The links with Rowett wouldn't have done the deal any harm whatsoever. Perhaps Duffy was not on the 'open market'. Even if he was available to STFC then it's quite possible that funds were not available to bring him in. I would imagine that the Brewers are paying a hefty % of Duffy's significant wages.
I'm not too be surprised however that MM hasn't gone for a 'star' attacking winger. Bringing a player like this in would almost force his arm to play 4-4-2 each week to accommodate a player who would be expected to start every week.
Would have very much liked to seen the lad here but it seems that attacking wing backs still hold sway at the GM for now.

I think he was on the 'open market' too, as I read an article where Duffy said that a couple of other Clubs had shown interest in him. At least Tootle was on my original list!

Looked very good on that youtube compilation... pity he was thinking far too quickly than most of his team-mates, who seemed to miss almost every opportunity he served up to them on a plate.

I was surprised that Collo's best mate, Adam McGurk, was released by Burton and has signed for Pompey. He always looked good whenever I saw him. Him and Collins would have enjoyed playing here in the same front line.
