Need at least 150 lead at least.
If you bought tickets for the last day, I wouldn't expect to be going!

Need at least 150 lead at least. If you bought tickets for the last day, I wouldn't expect to be going! I was considering getting tickets for the last day as at £25 they seemed a decent gamble. However in light of the fact whats happened in less than 4 sessions I won't be bothering!

Out of interest, do you get a refund if no play is on that day?

Nope. That's why they're cheap.
Buttler out and wouldn't have been had he reviewed it. FFS. Why didn't he? Our last batsman and we have two reviews left.

England doing their best to lose the initiative.
Lyth, Bell and Root gift their wickets and now a schoolboy error by Buttler not to review his lbw.
Buttler's batting form is worrying.

I'm convinced hawkeye mucked up for Buttler then. No way was that ball going that high!
Lyon bowling hand grenades to Ali! Would love a 100 lead

Ali was telling him to review, and that's why it's such a cliche - even if it goes wrong, it still means you stay in! Two reviews left - Broad always wastes his, and Finn and Anderson are basically walking wickets against this attack so Buttler and Mo are the only players for whom a review is really going to be worthwhile.
A scratchy, scratchy knock from Moeen so far. Inching towards getting himself in now, and Broad has looked more comfortable than him so far! Would be pretty annoyed if we didn't get to a 100 lead, only 16 away with 3 wickets left.

Agree on Buttler's form, too. Just a little odd having him in the side as well as Bairstow - neither are especially good keepers and Buttler's batting isn't good enough to keep him in the side as a specialist batsman. Good player and still young enough to improve but he certainly needs to do so. I'd be tempted to bring in another bowler for him and move Mo up to 7 - Woakes is the one I've been banging on about and we know he can bat.

Whoa steady on. Buttler has the 2nd highest batting average of all time for English wicket keepers. He's had 5 poor innings but his keeping has improved. Long, long time before any consideration will be given for dropping him!!
Top 50 by Ali. Even after a half decent start to the series he's under pressure again for his place. Pressure seems to bring out the best in him. I just hope he can perform with the ball in the 3rd innings because we may well need him.

Need to get rid of Warner quick before this lead suddenly disappears. Maybe tempt him with some Ali filth.

Do you get a refund if no play on the 4th day!?

Post by lenny on Jul 30, 2015 17:23:48 GMT 1
Yep, on the first four days you get refunded (at least partially) if there are fewer than 25 (I think) overs - including due to rain. Never been, just trying to remember what I read when I was looking at tickets beforehand. Might depend on the county whose ground the game is at.

Odds on for an England win early tomorrow. If Australia could somehow build a lead of 150, and Johnson and Lyon bowl well, the 4th innings could still be very tense - England's batting wasn't great. Happy for that to happen as long as England come through!

Another brilliant day. Big shame about Jimmy if he's out of the series. Side strains, even when very minor put bowlers out for a month or more normally. I'd pick Rushworth but I imagine we'll go for Wood or perhaps throw a surprise and bring in Onions or Footitt. It's a shame Woakes hasn't got a few more overs under his belt, it might be a big risk picking him.
Gonna be a huge financial hit for Warwickshire losing out on the 4th days revenue and possibly some revenue from tomorrow. Looks like their no refund 5th day ploy was a shrewd move.

Sounds like Jimmy is out for the rest of the series, that's a massive blow for England. It will be interesting to see who comes in to replace him. The good news mind is that Steve Finn is back!

I tend to agree with the comments of Jonathan Agnew on the Radio this morning.
There has been substandard batting from both sides. The overall level of performance is well below that of 2005.

Some might not agree, but for me 20/20 has massively decreased test match batting skill levels. Yes batsmen can play ramps and all those wonderful shots. But how many of the current England and Australian lineups could save a game in the way Atherton famously did in Joburg all those years ago? I'd say Rogers and Cook and that's it. It's the same story around the world, Indian batsmen showed it last summer, NZ this summer. The only team with a quality batting lineup in world cricket is the South Africans imo.

If Mark Wood is not fit to return then if the selectors are going on form then Chris Rushworth must be in line for a call up? I would also like to see James Harris added to the squad. Having a good season with Middlesex.

Presumably the ECB takes a financial hit as well? If it's right there are refunds if less than 25 overs are played, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see no result today until 25 overs have been bowled. If Edgbaston holds 27,500, there'd be 55,000 refunds due otherwise! Maybe I'm being cynical. Then again, the way the day has started, England might have a bit of a target to go after - maybe there'll be some play tomorrow after all!

Warwickshire are insured for the 4th and 5th days, so no loss for them.

Warwickshire are insured for the 4th and 5th days, so no loss for them. Fair enough. So as long as we get past 25 overs today there'll be no loss, is that right? The pace at which Test cricket is being played at the moment, I'll bet those insurance premiums are going to rocket!

Can see Lyth getting the chop for Hales now, especially when next Test is at his home ground of Trent Bridge. Lyth's Ashes scores = 72, 12 avg.
