Germany began their bid to regain the Women's World Cup by putting 10 past Ivory Coast in Ottawa. Celia Sasic scored a hat-trick and Anja Mittag netted twice as Germany were 5-0 up inside 35 minutes. Mittag completed her treble after the break, with Simone Laudehr, Sara Dabritz, Melanie Behringer and Alexandra Popp all finding the net. Germany fell short of matching the record they set with an 11-0 win over Argentina in 2007. They went on to defend the trophy they won four years earlier, but failed to reach the semi-finals on home soil in 2011. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/33042116

The main problem in Womens football is lack of strength in depth, there are too many teams like San Marino etc in the mens game. However, as you will have seen if you watched the Germany v Ivory Coast game last night those "weaker" teams play with far more heart and intent than the weaker mens teams. They don't just park the bus and hope to restrict the number of goals they know they are going to concede. Ivory Coast went for it.
Overall, the attitude of the players in the womens game is better than the mens game, they get on with it, accepting that tackles & fouls are part of the game and not some personal attack (there are exceptions of course).
The skill level at the top of the game is truly superb, I'm not going to do the usual of trying to say where they would fit in to the mens league structure because you can't due to the physical strength & speed of the men. But give Womens football a chance and you will enjoy it, yes there will be some silly score lines in the opening round of the World Cup but when they get to the latter stages there will be some really good games.
If any of the following goals had been scored by Messi, Ronaldo, Rooney etc in the last World Cup they would certainly be in the highlights reel (although I'm not sure who chose the goal at number 1)

I`ll be watching most of the matches.
For the last few years me and my daughters have been regularly watching Sheffield Club Ladies who won the Northern Premier League and then won a play-off versus Pompey (South Champs) so hopefully Club will be in Super League 2 next year. The standard is really good and Sheffield have half a dozen excellent players. It`s cheap and it`s nice for my girls to have such positive role models. We`re also collecting the Panini stickers for Canada 2015!

Poor entertainment. Low-skilled rubbish. Ridiculous hair. But enough of the Premiership, I'm putting the ladies game back on.

Like all England teams, they were competent. Mexico were awful at the back, but England were awful around the 18 yard area.
It got better once Sampson changed the shape as they started to dominate possession and Carney really made a difference when she came on.
They should get out of the group......

Still 2 - 0. looks like a game against Norway, as France are thrashing Mexico.
Monday for the next game if it stays like this.

I really do hope that they prove me wrong, but I think the Norway match will be their last.

I thought they played well. The wobble at the end was a worry. I disagree with folk saying they`re similar to the men in terms of play; 3 games so far and 3 different formations with pretty much all the squad used. Sampson seems to be a brave coach or maybe this is just the result of a less dominant style of media coverage.

It's England 0, Norway 0, at half time. Poor entertainment if I'm being honest.

Blimey. Good stuff that. Should have a decent sniff against the host nation too. Just a shame that England seem to get the late slot each time they are playing. I've only managed to see the game against France.
