Preferred it with Shifnal and Bridgnorth in it.
Though to be honest I'd be happy if they got rid of it.

I'd actually like to see us play our first team and a decent Town crowd there. Don't take it seriously and use it only for running\fitness purposes if they wish. Just think it would be good for everyone concerned. That's just me though.

I'd rather go an away game at a small local non league side such as Shifnal, Ludlow or Telford than a bland home game against a youth XI of a championship team. Plus a side like Market Drayton would get as much income in one game against the Town as they do all season normally, which I'm sure they would welcome.

Just think it would be good for everyone concerned. That's just me though. We did that against Bridgnorth one year - they did their best to kick lumps out of many Town players, Tommy Lynch included (they were brave I'll give em that....). I'd much prefer to play friendlies where both teams are looking to have their best players still fit for the more important games afterwards when the league ones start, so if we must stay in the damn competition then play the youth team. Better off tell them we won't bother.

We are the county team and therefore should make inroads to help out local non-league clubs. Plus may help with youth scouting!

I swear MW said last season that the first round (sorry semi final) of the SSC would be best played on the first available Saturday of pre season where everyone could enjoy a warm summer's day at a non league ground with the BBQ out etc.
If we played at Drayton on the 11th July at least 500 would make the short trip you would think? Hopefully the rest of the pre season schedule will be announced soon, at the moment Cardiff, Wolves and Tranmere don't appeal to me at all but it's good preparation for the team and that's the main thing I guess, but I always found pre season more fun when we used to go to the likes of Burscough, Radcliffe and Kidsgrove!

I'd imagine the Cardiff and to a lesser extent Wolves friendlies don't appear too attractive to the West Mercia police either.
Still, I expect they could do with a dry run in preparation for the visit of Millwall!

I am sure Matt said in an interview that he would like us to take full squads to some local clubs so they could make a decent payday out of it, and he specifically mentioned my local club Ellesmere Rangers. Im guessing that as they dont appear to be in this years senior cup then this is unlikely to happen due to time constraints.

It's the Cup competition of our home Football Association, it has history and a place, in my view, in the sporting calendar of our County. And yet we still have calls to scrap it, it's a waste of time etc. I thought Gary Peters was a bell - end when he came out and suggested the tournament was a waste of time, but it seems he has his followers. Let's get behind the competition and support it, because when it's gone, it's gone, one more nail in the sporting history of our own County.

Quite like Phoenix Park as a stadium.
Pretty good ground at that level Shifnal have.
Have Wellington Ams' ever been in it?

Never really understood the snobbery towards the SSC, and think it's a bit of a shame what a mess it's been in recent years. Treated properly by both the Shropshire FA and the clubs, it could be a really enjoyable staple of the summer programme. Kudos for the accurate description of Telford as a "small local non-league side," also.

I fancy this one as well. Full run out for all our new signings and give some people an opportunity to declare them crap before the season has even started...........

Are we still going to send a strong side?
Or will it be kids + Caton and maybe Weso and NKP for fitness??

Telford put four past shifnal the other night so sets up a final with our noisy neighbours. Any idea when the final is and also where it is being played?

Telford put four past shifnal the other night so sets up a final with our noisy neighbours. Any idea when the final is and also where it is being played? Reckon it should be played in September whilst the weather is still good and both teams won't need to worry about a fixture backlog, I'd imagine it'll be a game for our development side, and hopefully it won't clash with a first team fixture so more Salop fans can attend this time should they wish to, I guess it'll be at the Meadow seeing as we are the current holders?
