I was watching SSN at about 11.30am this morning when they interviewed Richard Bevan- Chairman of the League Managers Association. The first question that they asked him was "Hows the season been for you?"...to which he answered "Personally ,excellent as I support Shrewsbury Town and we achieved promotion" ....I was amazed !..great answer and I'm sure that it wasn't the reply that the bloke interviewing him was expecting as Bevan was in to discuss the Managers comings and goings during the past season. Did a Google search on him, he's Shropshire born educated at Shrewsbury School, a former football coach at Concorde College and competed on the RAC Rally 3 times. So one more to add to the small list of big names who support the mighty Salop

Well spotted.
What other famous fans do we have? I remember that Jason Bateman "supports" us due to his mum being born here.
Joe Hart of course.
Any more?

John Peel supported Shrewsbury as a 2nd team I believe.

Richard Bevan is my Nan's godson. Really nice chap who I'm sure would like to visit the Greenhous more often if it wasn't for spending the majority of the time in London.

I think Richard Bevan was previously high up in the Professional Cricketers Association.

Yes, I remember Richard from the late 70's. Played a little cricket for the Mercenaries (not very well in my case). We did go on a memorable trip to Ireland in a mini bus playing in Dublin, Limerick and Galway I think. I believe the Irish government at the time installed a "character" in each pub we visited! Or that may have been pure coincidence?

John Peel supported Shrewsbury as a 2nd team I believe. Maybe as a 3rd team - he was quite a keen Ipswich supporter when he lived in Suffolk. Used to talk about it on the radio and I think he liked them enough to hope for a draw when they played Liverpool. Ian Hunter, ex-Mott the Hoople, is a Shrewsbury supporter isn't he? And Chris Hawkins from 6Music certainly is.

I was fortunate enough to go the LMA awards on Tuesday night in London. I sat at the next door table to Richard Bevan (who was at the same one as Alex Fergusson) and then introduced myself to him later in the evening as a fellow Old Salopian. Really nice chap and his folks live in Clive. He was the Chief Exec of the Professional Cricket Association, as well as Chairman of the board of The Caribbean Premier Cricket League, so moves in strong sporting circles. I made sure I clapped the appearance of Mickey Mellon on the big screen when the nominations came up, and was as surprised as everyone else when Ainsworth won the 2nd division award. I had a good chat with Dean Smith from Walsall, and told him Town were looking forward to renewing acquaintances next season. My boss was sat next to Roy Hodgson, not sure who to feel sorry for....

Of course we mustn't forget Pete Postlethwaite.. He used to catch the bus from Church Stretton to watch town, before he came to his senses and crossed the Long Mynd to move closer to the Caaaastle. He played many famous roles, but probably the Juan he remembers best, was when he was standing on Harry Tuffin's car park in The Caaastle, and this bloke with a fairly big nose, was carrying a bag of coal to his car, Pete said, "let me open the boot for you". He did the whole thing in Juan take, and didn't even get nominated for an Oscar. Disgraceful.

Having said that on the Walsall comment, as we played them in the cup this season there is no need for any reacquainting next season old boy.

Charles Darwin helped us evolve from 2-3-5 to 4-3-3
Henry V who played at blinder in an early game at the Battlefield ground, cancelling the threat from the much vaunted but ultimately ineffective Harry Hotspur
Benjamin Disraeli - MP for Shrewsbury and a season ticket holder for many years
Clive of India - a bit of a hooligan from his days living in Wem but blue and Amber coursed through his veins
Charles Dickens - stayed at the Lion when attending occasional Town games. Was a big fan of the holy trinity in midfield: Oliver Twist, David Copperfield and .... the other one
and of course Rowland Hill - victor at Waterloo, Port Vale and Wrexham
and David Cameron . . . Oh no that's West Ham . . . oops I mean Aston Villa
(The Duke of Wellington was, of course, a Telford United fan)

Well if I remember Claire Forlani the ex weather girl admitted on national T.V. that she was a town fan. I also remember Prince William although an Aston Villa fan admitting he had a soft spot for Shrewsbury before the 2009 play off final.

I'm not famous for anything lads...am I still allowed in?
I did once get my photo in the local paper when the budgie was stolen from our local primary school. Me and another lass looked really sad and pointed to the empty cage. I was 5 years old...

Wasn't it rumoured at the time that Prince Harry came to watch our play off home leg against Bury as he was undertaking helicopter training at RAF Shawbury at the time?
