GK Chris Weale GK Joe Anyon
DF Jermaine Grandison DF Joe Jacobson DF Darren Jones DF Michael Hector (on loan from Reading) DF Connor Goldson DF Rob Purdie
MF Luke Summerfield MF Mark Wright MF Matt Richards (captain) MF Jon Taylor MF Asa Hall MF Paul Parry MF Aaron Wildig MF Elliott Turner MF Ryan Woods
FW Terry Gornell FW Ryan Doble FW Tom Bradshaw FW Marvin Morgan
Compare it to the one we last went into League One with and finished 16th.
How many players of that squad would get into our current one (remembering their abilities at the time e.g Hector,Bradshaw,Woods and Goldson)? One or two maximum I'd say with Taylor and Weale.

Rated Paul parry for us. He did well over our two seasons. Looking at that, seems midfield is a definite for recruitment.

Wouldn't be unhappy if we signed 1 centre midfielder, Bobby Grant and then that was it for the summer to be fair... Obviously meaning no players out!

If Goldson and Woods go, then a CB and a CM to come in.
I'd look at getting 2 wingers in to replace Robinson and Vincent.
Then sign a CM to replace Southern.
Then get Bobby Grant signed up and we are done.

I'd guess if we want any more in one or two will have to be loaned out or paid off.
eg Great to have young home grown keepers and good backup who can keep pushing for no 1 spot, but do we really need 4 keepers.? I'd like Grant back but guess Blackpool want him or we can not afford him with out moving some one on. I would think 24 players is the most we could afford to have here all at one time.

If we speculate that both Woods and Vincent move on in the summer and Grant doesn't return, it leaves our midfield especially short of creativity.
Pleased that Clark is kept on and allowed to develop but the jury is out on whether he'll be able to make in impact at a higher level next season. Liam Lawrence will turn 34 in December. He's perhaps the one of the fittest players of that age I've seen, especially at this level, but to be as influential week in, week out will be a huge ask. As MM says Weso will be like a new signing. Lets hope he hits the ground running after such a long lay off.
For me quite a bit to be done in the MF area. A matchwinner in the Bobby Grant mould a must.

Don't think all our keepers will be taking up too much of the budget but all fit in with the policy of developing our own saleable assets. Very real possibility that at least one of them will earn some serious money for the club and others could provide some valuable long term service - both of which will help the club to continue develop. This is not just about building a squad for next season but also looking further forward as well....

To be honest I'd start offering contract extensions on the ones with a year left too....

two of the four keepers are highly rated youth keepers who its worth having signed up when attention from elsewhere starts, you also have to remember that Harry Lewis has some sort of youth contract that runs straight into a pro deal as well I believe. 3 youth keepers at the club who all are reated to do well.... our record with these keepers is impressive now.

Surely when we sign up a player on a 2 year deal we should build in an option to extend the contract for a further year for the Club to take up if it wishes to do so. Something similar to the Grant scenario.
This then gives us the opportunity to hang on to a valuable asset for one more year or alternatively to still be able to get some money for the player.
This is exactly what Scunny did with Mark Duffy after his original 2 year contract had run out, so even though he never played for them again they were able to pocket a hefty transfer fee from Doncaster.
Mind you, Duffy's agent has been quite sharp too. He put a release clause into Duffy's contract which allowed him to leave if Doncaster were relegated. They were..and he did! He's now with Birmingham City.

I know this wasn't a bad thing for the fans , but because of mellons attitude to him , it was a wage taken by a player not needed . I think we should stick with the 2 year deals and an option . Or like I have said for years , offer contracts before they've run out . Around Christmas time see who's playing well and who's not and get some contracts offered .

When I was referring to options, I meant options by the Club, not the player.
Giving the player the option of taking up another year if he's made a certain number of appearances is fraught with problems.

I wouldn't be surprised to see 5 or 6 new faces before the start of the season... Including a couple of loans.

All bar two of our existing players who are signed up will be out of contract at the end of next season.
It's a car crash waiting to happen. Has the Club any options to extend any of those contracts?

Pretty sure the club have options on a number of the contracts.
I didn't include them as I couldn't remember exactly who they were on.

I know that Ginnelly and his agent are playing hard to get, but surely Shaun Rowley should have signed his contract by now?

Marvin Morgan was very, very poor according to my Hartlepool mates. They even felt his attitude behind the scenes was largely bluster and bull.
