I think many people in the UK are generally scared of Labour and the direction they would take the country. I think the Tories are a bunch of self serving S.O.B's but rather them than Labour and I suspect that's how a fair few people were thinking yesterday. I never want to see Labour in power again.
Just picking up the bits and pieces this morning on the Beeb and it's mad how this works. More people voted for UKIP than SNP yesterday yet look to many seats each party has. Makes it all a bit of a farce that...
The LibDems eh. Just when we need them. Just when the time was ripe for them to make strides they are completely on their arse...

I don't think people are scared of Labour. They are scared of who would support a minority Labour government, or in other words the SNP.
The gutter press did a good job of scaremongering there.
Good to see Carswell support electoral reform and mention the Greens in the same breath.

At least UKIP won't have much influence in the new government.

Good to see Carswell support electoral reform and mention the Greens in the same breath. Indeed The fact 1 in 10 who voted will be represented by 1 in 2/300 MP's surely isn't right

It's a bad day to be English, poor, sick, and vulnerable be you young or old or hoping to enter higher education. If there are to be no tax rises (do we believe them?), where is the next lot of money coming from to ease the deficit? The Tories wouldn't answer that question during the campaign so ..... Wait for it.

The only surprise for me is that people are surprised. The morally repugnant left have been starkly found out for the charlatans they truly are. The Conservative party who can deliver as both the party of the people and the party of driving the British economy have the unequivocal confidence of a nation.
God bless. I'm assuming that this is some sort of a joke but anyway, hardly the unequivocal confidence of a nation, just a sizeable enough minority of 'I'm alright, Jack' merchants to guarantee a majority of seats under our broken FPTP system. A vote hare of 30 odd % on a turn out of less than 70% isn't much of a mandate for the Tories to rule alone but that's the system we have. I heard a Tory win described the other day as 'the death of solidarity', and this strikes me as a good description. If you're lucky enough to be a homeowner and in a decent, professional, service industry job (which I am, for the record, before anyone starts bleating about the 'politics of envy') then expect a mild improvement in wages and house prices to be propped up by DC's RTB and pensions changes. If you're a small business owner (as is my wife) then the Tories are unlikely to do much about the living wage (or zero hours for that matter) so your profit margins are safe for the time being. If you're unfortunate enough to be in the private rental sector and hoping to get on the property ladder, looking to improve your career prospets through adult or distance learning, having a child on a low income, in an unstable or zero hours job, disabled or otherwise vulnerable and reliant in some way on public services then expect tough times ahead. I'll be interested to see just exactly where these new £12bn of new 'wellfare' cuts fall and how many Tory voters suddenly find themselves at the sharp end (hint; couples with children where both work) in a couple of years. Labour will regret pandering too much to the Tories and UKIP instead of going more towards being a genuine, radical Left alternative. In the end, they ended up as Tory lite and it wasn't good enough, outside of their Northern heartland. Anyone considering the Tories as a genuine 'people's party' would do well to consider Cameron's 'West Ham / Aston Villa' gaffe. Can just imagine one of his aides telling him before hand, "remember it's the ones in claret and blue". Shows exactly what he thinks of the electorate; convince them you're interested in their little 'kickball' game and they'll love you. Sadly, it seems that he was right.

Do hope it doesn't get too nasty within the Labour ranks (I doubt it but I hope so). No fan of Labour but Miliband comes across as a decent, honest sort.

Nice to see Lucas hold onto Brighton.
Small plus point on a bleak night.

I knew there would be a UKIP effect but did not anticipate it would have so much effect on Labour.
So it's not just right wingers - it is disaffected working class too.
The bitter truth for Labour is that if you appoint an unelectable leader you are toast. They picked the wrong brother. You knew that the morning after.

So labour out in the wilderness until they can find a charismatic leader, Libs in total disarray with Cleggy like to fall on his sword, and a storm brewing across the northern border. Who said politics is boring

Exit poll in Conservatives 316 (+9) Labour 239 (-19) SNP 58 (+52) Lib Dems 10 (-47) Plaid Cymru 4 (+1) UKIP 2 (+2) Greens 2 (+1) Other 19 (+1) Hands up who saw that one coming. I can hear the Milifandom weeping from here. Not sure why you are so pleased - Likud have won hardly any seats...

And I certainly wouldn't put all of Labour's failings on him...

So basically those voting UKIP or Green (or SNP!) are responsible for another 5 years on Tory cuts for the poor and tax cuts for the rich! Great!
