Wigan are also trying to sign Max Power and Jimmy Ryan.
Does their manager read this Board? lol

Perkins isn't a great loss, I suspect we'd have needed to offer a 2 yr deal to get him and at 33 that looks a risk. Lawrence is 33 so that would be a big wedge of cash on players reaching the end of their careers (though imo both are capable of doing a good job in L1 next yr).

Well, it seems that Wigan have effectively crossed Perkins and Power off my original list.
That now leaves Cox, Reid, Duffy and Tootle. Cox isn't likely to leave London, Reid would command a fee, Duffy has a year left on his Birmingham contract, and now we've signed Sadler can't see we need Tootle. So 0 out of 6 for me alas!

Tootle is right footed and prefers to play on the right so he's certainly an option still.

Right wing back five across the back - tootle would be good.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Theo Robinson. Released by Doncaster after being on loan to Scunny for the last couple of months of the season.
He was once quite a regular topic on here, and is still only 26.

Jed Wallace to Wolves confirmed, cross him off the list too then.

Wigan moved in for Perkins the day after his release was announced by Blackpool. Oxford did much the same with Roofe. Certainly shows business needs to be done early! Especially as only a couple of years back, we seemed to use 2nd class stamps with an sae when trying to deal with players.

As in Dean Cox of Leyton Orient? Think you need to set your sights a little lower. Their fans seem to think he's worth around 300-500k and is almost certain to go to the championship.

Enormous feeling of deja-vu reading this mammoth thread.
I don't think many of the names bandied around (many of which come up year after year, yet funnily enough never arrive) are feasible. I would guess we are quite comfortably in the bottom 1/3 of League One in terms of attendances and budget so we will be getting the "bigger clubs" solid-yet-unspectacular cast offs, punts on untried L2 players with "potential", and any players we have left over from last year that aren't flogged to the highest bidder.
Don't get me wrong, I am dead excited for the season ahead, but I suspect we will be doing it without any of the "marquee signings" mentioned thus far....

The best two players coming into the team this summer will be NKP and Wesolowski.
What a summer we had last year.
Anything close this year will be eye watering.

Our signings last year were remarkable for a League 2 club.
Oldham fans laughed when we were linked with Weso, he was supposed to be off to The Championship.
Lawrence said he had offers in The Championship too.
Demetriou was linked with League One teams and I'd be surprised if NKP and a few others didn't get offers too.
We have a great spine with Leutwiler,Goldson,NKP,Lawrence,Woods,Weso and Collins. I suspect a fair amount of wages is going on these already and we did our spending last summer. I expect to see two wingers , Bobby Grant and a striker if Akpa-Akpro,Vernon or Mangan leaves. Also depends what Woods and Goldson do too.

Danny Guthrie has just been released by Reading and he is a Shrewsbury lad.
I very much doubt he would sign for us though an I can see him staying in The Championship.

Whilst I agree with a lot of your post, our average attendance would have put us in 12th position in League One last year. I imagine we'll be about the same again next season as 4 teams that would be above us are leaving the division and we'll definitely have better crowds than Bury and Burton.

Kinda with Downie on this - obviously he's had a cracking career since he left but he's getting on, has scored 5 goals in 50-odd appearances in the last two seasons and is currently seriously injured; with absolutely no guarantee he'll make it back to play again - he isn't the most naturally fit footballer. Probably on a fairly hefty wage, too. I wouldn't say I'd be underwhelmed, as I still think he'd do a decent job as a targetman and experienced poacher at this level, but I certainly wouldn't be targeting him - just think there's too many risks for a player who is probably on a 5 figure weekly wage. Now I've said that, I fully expect him to score the goals to get Wigan up!

Age, Fitness, Wage..... Lets be honest he was not exactly a regular scorer from open play.

Heard a rumour over the weekend that Dave Edwards could be on his way in from Wolves on loan...he's dropped out of favour at Molineux and wants regular first team football. Wages could be an issue though.

Wages could be an issue though. If that rumour is true, then I'd expect that Dave would be prepared to take a drop in wages to play for his home town club again. He's never ceased being a supporter. And I'd imagine that the signing of Jed Wallace from Portsmouth has indeed put Dave down the pecking order at Wolves.

Unless MM has signed all of the players he needs for the new season already and not said anything (I've only heard of 1, Sadler) then why would he be considering any loan at this stage of the close season. I reckon he wants at least another full back (RWB), two strong midfield and a new forward. That will likely increase dependent on who signs from last year in Mangan/Grant/ Grandison and whether Woods/Goldson or anyone else transfers out. Depending on those factors and filling the first roles he may then look at loans.

Wages could be an issue though. I would have thought that Dave would want to continue to play at championship level to improve his chances of picking up more Welsh caps. Especially so given that Wales have their best chance in years of qualifying for the finals of a major tournament.

In my opinion Dave Edwards won't be signing on loan for Shrewsbury Town next season.
