don't take this personal, i'm just wondering what peoples thoughts are
but are these getting out of hand ?
tomorrow we have 4 planned
one for an tragedy 25 years ago one for a town fan who has already had 5 one for a young lad who i would guess has an official club backed applause lined up next home game and one for a player who has an illness
i'm not trying to disrespect anyone but it does concern me at times if we are doing the right thing or not
there are an awful lot of lifelong fans that pass away and never get a mention

It's hard to put it into words without sounding disrespectful, but in a word, yes it is getting out of hand, no offence to anyone intended.

I agree with the point but I think it is too late to change for tomorrow now
One more point, it is 30 years since the Bradford fire

Absolutely spot on. You have dared to put into print what I have thought for some time. A mention on the PA or a write up in the match day magazine should be more than enough.

The original Nick Mann tribute was moving and seemed right. I'm not sure it needs to be continued though.

I think that we all feel great sympathy for the people these tributes are aimed at. But at the same time when they become too many, they become devalued. It's very difficult to broach this subject without appearing not to care, but I'm sure that is not the intention and the original poster is brave to raise the subject.

Agree with this, especially the devalued bit, and to allow it to become devalued would be an outrageous shame!

Would the most appropriate thing be to dedicate a minute silence / applause before the game to all concerned?
I feel this would show the appropriate level of respect without descending into mawkishness which, as people have rightly pointed out, would actually diminish the gesture.

I wrote and deleted text before I posted it this morning about this.
Every respect to all fans who pass on, but we all need to continue and if we don't then we'd end up with 90 minutes worth of applause.
I can appreciate the memory of Bradford and that it is 25 years. So that should occur at the start of the game. As mentioned Lloyd Burton will be celebrated at home, but a moment of respect via applause for such a brave young lad should probably go ahead. However we need to keep these celebrations of life and struggles to a clearly recognised period.

I agree with many of the points mentioned above but when fans decided to carry on the 35th minute applause, no one could have foreseen such tragic events that would lead to 3 more minute applauses.
Nick Mann died very young and his brave actions saved his brother but for the ultimate price. I think fans just wanted to show that his brave actions won't be forgotten.
With Plymouth at home being our last game, will it be such a chore to do two round of applauses for two courageous fans who are no longer with us?

On the same subject, but on another issue, I feel that depending on the state of the game at the time, the applause can be a source of distraction to the players.
A minute's silence or a minute's applause before the game is fine, but like others on here I feel it's now getting out of hand.

Apparently it has just been announced on Radio 5 live that Colin Bloomfield has passed away.
So I guess this is also likely to be acknowledged at the Plymouth game.

What would be the alternative? Pretend these events didn't happen? Mark some but not others?
Proud of how our club and supporters have handled this difficult time. Looking forward to paying my respects to Nick, Colin and Lloyd next week.

Have to say that I would hope next Saturday to become a celebration of two young and one very young lives, together with the celebration of promotion. Whilst remembering our recent losses (three in a month is unbelievable), we should also remember how proud each one of them would have been of the team's achievements and how proud our team and manager are of them.

Why not continue the 35th minute applause indefinitely as a lasting tribute to all sadly departed Town fans, both this season and in previous years?

For all the merits of a minutes applause, yesterday reminded me that a minutes silence is a very moving tribute.

In my opinion i thought that the minutes silence for the bradford fire victims was well observed by both sets of fans.

Looking forward to paying my respects to Nick, Colin and Lloyd next week. This. Agreed. Who could have predicted 3 tragedies coming so close together? I think the marks of respect are appropriate and heart felt and should and will continue to the end of the season. Once the applause ends, how about a flag which travels the country with the names of fans who might be watching from above on it? It would be a nice, but subtle way of keeping them in mind. Just a thought.

I think the way we fans and the club have respected and recognised the tragic, early passing of three fans has been dignified and appropriate. However, I do not want this wholly appropriate response to become diluted by overdoing things with the effect that people join in because they feel they ought to rather than knowing why they are clapping and doing it with feeling and emotion.
This season we have, for the first time to my knowledge, dedicated a match to those connected to the club who have passed on during the previous twelve months and held a minutes applause at the start of that match. I hope that we continue to this because it means that everyone gets recognised.
