I'm new to this Board so my apologies if I've missed relevant comments about this, but has anyone noticed the following fact about STFC's goals? No other team in the football league has scored more goals than any other team in their league AS WELL AS conceding fewer. That's a great statistic which Shrewsbury can be proud of !

Haven't we scored less than Northampton? Northampton have scored 62 as opposed to our 65. :-)

welcome Farehamshrew and thanks for your input. I share your view we can be justly proud of what MM, his management team and squad have achieved this season. not forgetting Roland the Chairman and the CEO and his staff. I for 1 am jolly proud to follow such a great club albeit from Deepest Devon and in less than a month from Wiltshire.

There was a thread on here about a month ago about our goals against total. Think we would need to let in 10 in the last 3 games (maybe 12) for this season to not be our best ever.

Our best ever season with regard to goals conceded is 39 in the 1993/94 season (and that was just 42 games!!).
For a 46 game season we conceded just 41 in both 1978/79 and 2011/12. Unless our defence seriously implodes over the next three games then I reckon we will comfortably beat this.
Oh and our worst was 91 conceded in the memorable 2002/03 relegation season!!

Our defence is tight as a gnat's chuff. Suppose Nat KP hadn't been injured? Probably have been even better.

Our defence is tight as a gnat's chuff. Suppose Nat KP hadn't been injured? Probably have been even better. It isn't the defence that is my concern AJ, it is the middle and forwards who disappear against physical teams, those that press them out of the game. Like Bury did Tuesday.Too many lightweights in the team who can't impose themselves and I include Grant, Clark, Caton in that category who we would need to be replaced for stronger, more physical players with experience at L1 or higher level. Lawrence as play maker will need more protection so getting Wes back for start of season is important but unlikely he will be available, too soon following that kind of injury. Whether Woods stays or goes he will find it more difficult as he will really need to step up the physical side of his game. To those enlightened master tacticians who bleat about the defence resorting to the long ball, just ask yourself before that ball goes forward from the back line was there a midfield option open. Against Bury no there was not. You could have snuck Woodsie on and played him as well in midfield on Tuesday night and it wouldn't have made a difference. If Mellon is as good as he seems to be expect changes to the middle and forwards in close season otherwise we will be outfought and beaten regularly, no matter how good this current defence is. I can only see Barnett as a viable option for L1, Mangan may be but not played enough this year or at the next level to tell. Vernon, Collins and J-LAA not good enough based on the season in L2 I've witnessed. Cynical but how it must be viewed. How do you see it in terms of keep and replace for next year AJ.

5 of the top 10 from League two. Shows what a low scoring division it's been this season.
