Riot police and stewards were injured after clashes with rampaging Millwall fans trying to reach home fans during the London side's 2-1 defeat at Rotherham. Fans from the 1300-strong away support tried to invade other parts of the stadium following the home side's 85th-minute winning goal. Police said there was further violence outside the ground. The violent scenes came as Millwalll supporters also called for manager Ian Holloway to be sacked. South Yorkshire Police said police and stewards had been left with minor injuries as a result of the clashes with fans, and said Rotherham supporters had also been responsible for disorder. A police statement said there would be an investigation into the trouble. It read: "After Rotherham United scored in the 85th minute, a number of supporters attempted to gain access to supporters in other parts of the ground. Several stewards were attacked, leaving two with minor injuries, and additional police officers were deployed to restore order. As fans left the ground, further disorder occurred. A number of police officers also received minor injuries. No arrests were made today, but having secured comprehensive evidence including detailed CCTV footage, we will be conducting a post-incident investigation into this disorder, which fans of both clubs played a part in." www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/millwall/11442472/Riot-police-and-stewards-injured-as-Millwall-fans-go-on-rampage-at-Rotherham.html

I wonder if the Millwall hooligans were a little envious of the bad press Chelsea and West Ham were getting of late...

With Millwall being a reasonably established Championship side I'd expect that most club's in that league will have gained experience of how to deal with them. I'd also expect that they have played against many of next seasons potential L1 sides on a regular basis recently. Their ''smart'' hooligans will tend to avoid those and save themselves for smaller, possibly naive clubs who are used to the more placid lower league type of away fan, staffed with Steward's and Police who have never experienced a Millwall match. Thus giving them a more productive afternoon. It's nine years since they met Rotherham away and never in the new ground. Having only met once at old GM It will be 19-20 years since they played Shrewsbury. IF the leagues finish as they are!!

Interesting times next season maybe, remember the last time we played them. They equalised in the last minute and in injury time with the last kick of the game we thought we scored the place went mad then the ref disallowed it saying he blew for full time as the ball hit the net. Some town lad ran on the pitch and went for the ref but was upholded by our then Danish keeper Benny Gall. It was the start of the rot that led to us being relegated. Loads of trouble at the train station if I remember too.

Championship side Rotherham have condemned the violence of Millwall fans during the club's game at the weekend. Sections of the visiting supporters turned nasty after the Yorkshire outfit scored an 85th minute winner. Millwall fans chanted for the sacking of manager Ian Holloway, before trying to enter the section housing the home supporters. www.itv.com/news/2015-03-02/rotherham-condemn-millwall-fans-unprecedented-violence/
