Thanks for the heads up.
Did anyone see the programme on Far Right groups on C4 about 2weeks ago - added new meaning to the quote "Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups".

As it appears to be a march jointly arranged by the Welsh Alliance and the EDF, there should be no problem about being English... especially as many fans think Shrewsbury is Welsh anyway.
The target will not be the English, but Muslims. So even though there will be a bitingly cold wind and possible snow flurries, don't go to the match in a Burqa.

The combination of far-right pondlife and a minority of footballing knuckleheads from both sides spoiling for a fight makes this potentially an uncomfortable afternoon in the valleys.
Stay safe and don't do anything stupid, people.

If its anything like the EDL march in Shrewsbury last year it will be 6 blokes getting escorted round the streets of Newport by 30 police whilst confused locals look on
Doubt it will impact on Towns match much

Thanks for the heads up. Did anyone see the programme on Far Right groups on C4 about 2weeks ago - added new meaning to the quote "Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups". 'White, angry and proud' is the program I think you're referring to. The lead guys were Cypriot and half Italian but because they were born here they considered themselves as English. Yet the (non-white people) Muslims who were born here weren't considered to be 'British.' Marches like this emphasise that society still has a long way to go.

Pub-wise, police on Twitter just gave me a list of 7 (!) boozers Town fans shouldn't go to: Lamb, Cross Keys, Potters, Carpenters, Riverside, Ivy Bridge and Dodgers No designated 'away' pubs though apparently.

Having been to several of these type of protests before (as a neutral reporting on the events) I have seen as much trouble emanating from the anti-fascists as the far right groups.

Bad as each other. They both scare the s**t out of me. Horrible people on both sides of the fence. Safe trip to all Town fans making their way to the game anyhows. Hopefully any silliness will be kept to the town centre.

Fair enough, just to be clear I wasn't calling you a fascist!

Yet the (non-white people) Muslims who were born here weren't considered to be 'British.' Marches like this emphasise that society still has a long way to go. It was a study of bigotry, hatred and stupidity on both sides of the divide. But at least it finished with a note of hope, when one of the leaders (Colin, was it) decided not to go to the Rotherham gathering, and instead stayed at home and pondered what it was all about. "All this hatred", he said... "I think it's because I actually hate myself." Unfortunately his capacity for reasoning and self analysis is probably pretty rare amongst the "brothers"... so there will no doubt be plenty of snarling hatred on show today. Keep safe, Town fans.

Seems from twitter that the protest march failed to happen as no one from the Welsh Alliance turned up.
Hopefully Newport County's defence fail to turn up for today's match too
