to add to those Bury & Scunny games named above - I'd say Leeds away late 80s when we won 3-2. Went 2-0 up early on and then got battered (think Leeds had something like 28 corners) Leeds pulled it back to 2-2 only for Griff to break away and score late on. Scary jounrney back to Leeds station.

That Swindon game was pretty sweet, got absolutely battered for 90 minutes and then stole a goal. Met a few angry Swindon fans outside, really didn't like us at all ?. Not in my top 3 though. MK Dons will probably never be beaten in my heart and mind, Bury play off was awesome as was Exeter in the Great Escape season. Honourable mentions to QPR in the FA Cup and Brentford away last game of the same season, massive Town support and great occasions.

Chelsea away in the F.A. Cup, my first away day and trip to the smoke. To see players like Hollins, Hinton, McCreadie which you previously only saw in newsreels or in the papers, was awesome for a young lad. Wolves away in the CUp, Leicester away in the League Cup were great, but more recently D&R away to get into the play-offs, Bury away and even Leicester this season all stand out.
Just wish I had gone to see us play Carlisle in a F.A. cup replay at Deepdale, in what was described in the national papers as one of the most exciting cup games ,ever.

Haven't seen 3-2 win at Dirty Leeds mentioned yet. Leeds 24 corners STFC 1.
We scored from ours they didn't score from any of theirs. Two memeroable goals from Carl Griffiths and a blinding goal keeping display from Ron Green

Scary jounrney back to Leeds station. Yes, great result, could be wrong but I thought Leeds scored first as my only over memory of this match apart from Carl Griffiths scoring twice was the couple of hard Leeds fans that came into the away end celebrating when they scored what I thought was the opening goal before being taken back into the home end, I remember admiring their bravery at choosing us at home to prove how tough they were rather than say Chelsea or ManCity.

We were definitely 2-0 up at half time. Remember buying a Green Un at Leicester Services to check the score!!!!!!

That Swindon game was a classic smash and grab, made all the sweeter by how much it wound up that tw@t McMahon and by the fact that a very sizeable Salop contingent turned up unexpectedly.
My personal fave away trip still remains the relegation-dodging 2-0 away win at St. Andrews, which we already discussed in the recent scary away trips thread. The Bury second half comeback game, any of the wins at Wrexham, and 3-1 away at Man City were also great.
Oh, and I forgot the Boxing Day early kick-off game in the snow at Hereford (RIP) - beer and turkey sandwiches for breakfast in the car, Wayne Clarke magic and in impromptu kick-about in the snow with a bunch of Town fans in that parking area in a forest on a hill on the A49. Great memories.

The roar from inside the ground when we equalised 2-2 in injury time was incredible (we were heading back to the car thinking the dream of Chelsea away had gone) and the day was made even more memorable by calling in at Crewe railway station for celebratory bacon and eggs on the way home and the day off school the next day! Happy days!!

Many of my favourites have been mentioned by others. A positive result is often a starting point when remembering enjoyable away days, however a match that ultimately ended in defeat sticks in my mind as one of my favourites.
In the mid 70s QPR were one of the top teams in the first division. We went there in January 1977 for a 3rd round FA cup game and the game to them. I recall walking from White City where they parked the coaches then, seeing the Town team coach drive past us on the way to the ground and getting a wave from Sammy Irvine and Brian Hornsby, getting threatened with violence by a local in the chip shop when I suggested we would win 5-0. I couldn't believe the number of Town fans at the game, the terrace behind the one goal appeared to be packed.
We should have got a draw at the very least against a team packed with internationals. The elation when Chic flicked the ball beyond Phil Parkes (Rangers best player on the day) into the goal right in front of the massed Town fans was immense and is still vivid even after the best part of forty years.

"Gary Newbon, you're a w****r" ringing around the stand he was sat in was quite funny as well. Missed the Scunny championship-clinching game and MK Dons so Bury play-off and Exeter 'great escape' for me. Butvalso had some great times at s**t matches, doing the conga at Posh in Jake King's last match in charge for instance - in fact have had a couple of great away days there but more because of fun had before and after the matches.

Ha, I stand corrected! Memory ain't what it used to be. Another great away day was the 4-0 victory v Rotherham. 1st game of the season - might have been 93/94 season or 1st game of the following season. Sunny day!

The 7-0 win at Wycombe was good. Loved the Town fans chant of 'what a waste of money' to Grant Holt when he miscontrolled the ball with a few minutes to go, this after him having scored five times

Bristol rovers away in auto windscreen regional final. Eagle saving a penalty and then Stevens with late winner. Magnificent mosh on the twerton park terrace.
The locals were not happy...
