The highly dislikeable trainer salesman is up to something and you can guess that it willl be linked to the growth of his bank account.... www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/30996809Noted how most Newcastle fans greeted Carvers apppiontment with a shrug, one fan stated "The lack of passion shown by Ashley is filtering into the fans" - quite sad to hear. Sure that £10 million 'loan' would have been welcomed in the NUFC transfer kitty.

10 million to keep the club going? Are Rangers still in trouble then? I thought it had all been sorted when they started up a new company for the club? How can they be in trouble considering the size of their club and what they are up against...

If I'm reading this correctly, Ashley now owns the retail rights to RFC? And if a major sports retail company were to 'sponsor' said 'team-without-a-history' shirts, then Fat Mike will be able to recoup a percentage of that sponsorship deal....paid for by his own PLC?
Isn't that classed as money-laundering, or tax-evasion?

All about giving his company access to future Champions League revenues, a complete Rangers takeover is imminent as they are in a whole lot of trouble still

Mike Ashley is far from being a fat uncouth Londoner, you don,t get to be a billionaire by chance. His company Sports Direct plans to expand its U.K. Business, and is also planning to acquire Evans Cycles in a deal worth £100 million, dependent on its ability to hold onto Evans' current key suppliers. They are also planning to open another 40 stores across the country this year, ramping up its demand for new U.Ksites.
It's a sign of its success and also aligns with its new "fitness " arm. It now operates out of 434 U.K . Stores and has undergone significant expansion in Europe.
Goldman Sachs sold 15.4 m shares for Ashley, which will go towards raising money for his Rangers F.C. Bid
Remember Pardew was given an extremely lengthy contract by Ashley, which shook us all, until we knew he was operating on the lowest salary in the Premier League. Ashley makes money, and any involvement in Rangers will , in the long run, benefit Ashley in the first instance.
Like him or loathe him, he is probably 3 steps ahead in his stratedgy on the Rangers business plan. If it all goes wrong , Ashley will bail out, leaving Rangers in even deeper trouble, but he will cut adrift any arm of his business that fails to return a profit. Be interesting to see how this one pans out long term.

Mike Ashley is far from being a fat uncouth Londoner Only far from the perspective of a microscopic lifeform. Otherwise that is exactly what he is. An astute businessman maybe, but still a fat uncouth Londoner nonetheless

Rangers need to wake up and smell the coffee and Ashley is probably making them do this. Disenchanted fans, gates falling and over the last 3 seasons players on ludicrously high wages. They could have overcome the mess by still winning successive promotions with home grown young players.

I read somewhere that Ally McCoist had walked away from his £600,000 a year role.
For Scottish Division One.
Utterly, utterly mental.

Not quite Throb, I believe the figure is nearer £750k and he resigned from his 1 year rolling contract so he is now on gardening leave for the next 11 months on full pay! His former assistant (Kenny MacDowall) has a similar but less lucrative contract and after taking charge for 2 games decided he would prefer to see out the rest of his 1 year contact (reputed to be c. £220k) as assistant manager, thanks! You couldn't actually make up the ongoing events at the circus known as Rangers.

Whilst Ashley is a very good business he still represents (to me anyway) much of what is wrong about modern football - if you want to invest in a team and then sell it on, great! If you want to draw a reasonable salary or recieve dividends from any profits the club makes, fine! If you want to invest your own money in the club and then re-invest any money made for the good of the club then your probably a decent human being and deserve a pat on the back!
BUT to take over clubs of the size of Newcastle & Rangers and run them in such a way that they are turned into other branches of his empire is not what football is about!
I know the old "Football is a business now" excuse comes into play but that doesn't hide that this man and others are profiteering off people who love thier team! The reason were on this messageboard is because we love our club! Were not talking about flogging trainers, its something special we all hold dear.
