Just seen the Blue and Amber fanzine twitter account retweet this "Heard today that Ryan Woods at Shrewsbury Town is being watched with a view to England U21 call up."
Obviously hard to tell how true this is as tweets have a habit of not being very factual a lot of the time.
Looking at the current U21 squad, there isn't a single player from League One and League Two in there.
Recent call ups consist of a few players plying their trade in League's One and Two though.
I fully believe that his performances deserve a call up.
If he does get a call up then it should add a bit on to his value.

Shame if they have only watched him over the last week. He has played far better for most of the season than he has in the last two games.

Of course he has played better but no doubt he has been watched over a number of games and , as a consequence , it looks as if his overall performances have been well and truly noted. I hope he does get a call up , he is the best young player we have had at Shrewsbury for a long time , perhaps our best ever .
Whatever we had better enjoy his performances while we can .

Exciting if true . His development over a short period of time has been remarkable so who knows what the future holds.

Whatever Ryan Woods career holds for him I doubt very much it will include 100+ Caps for the national team.

I was , of course , referring to " outfield " players as opposed to goalkeepers but there you go .

The vast majority of my friends are non-Salop fans, and when asked about our current squad I often say that Woods is the best "footballer" I've ever seen us produce. Sure the last 2 games haven't been his best, but he's clearly a cut above the norm, even allowing for the fact that our academy had done a great job in recent years. Hart is clearly the best player in terms of ability, but goalkeeper is a unique position, where those types of attributes don't apply in quite the same sense. In terms of control, technique and composure on the ball, I've not seen us produce better than Woods in the 20+ years I've been watching. I guess that's what he means.

Fair enough but I very much consider goalkeepers to be players. Hart is the best- and most successful- player this club has produced in my lifetime of watching them. Albeit I will concede that his best years have been away from here, as indeed may be the case with Woods. I hope so.

If Hart and Woods become our two most successful players the club have ever produced we have indeed come a long way since those dark days of 2003 and the Conference.

I went to school with the guy, and even played against him a few times, and I'm delighted to see how well he's done. As a fan though, there's something even more special about seeing us produce a really talented all-round outfield ball-player. As someone who doesn't remember the 80s, it's just great to see a kid like that come through the ranks, and it's somehow even more satisfying than Hart, much as I'm proud of what Joe has gone on to achieve.

doubtless England watch plenty of DVD's, if there was one of our game at Exeter they would have learned what I and 3500 exeter fans saw, a really switched on m/f spraying pin point passes and dominating the pitch.

Good job Jackson isn't still manager as Woods would still be right back and no one would be taking any notice of him there.

Much as I wasn't too impressed by MJ's management, there is little doubt that he has had a big contribution to the development of Woods and I am pretty sure he would have also played him in the middle of midfield from the start of this season. It was very much a GT strategy to blood younger players out of position out wide... difficult to say if it was effective or not.

In that case why didn't MJ play him in midfield when he over from GT last season? What evidence is there that MJ made a big contribution to Wood's development?

What evidence is there that MJ made a big contribution to Wood's development? 1) I guess blooding Woods centrally in the situation we were in at the end of the season may have been a step too soon 2) Near the start of his reign GT stated that MJ's responsibilities included developing young players between the youth and 1st team. He used to give Bradshaw, Woods, Taylor, Goldson extra training sessions. He's a very good coach IMO.

The original tweet was mine. I have no knowledge of the veracity of the claim - in fact I expected the response to be "heard that" - or that he is also being watched by a host of Championship clubs and West Ham United.
