I would like to hear other fan's views on RW at Cambridge yesterday I thought it was comfortably his worst game of the season, and I realise that he has not had many poor ones Cambridge closed him down quickly and bullied him, often putting two players on him. This resulted in him wasting passes and getting caught in possession. I'm sure that he will bounce back next week though.

Got caught on the ball a few times and a few passes went amiss.
When he had time on the ball he again looked very good.
But yes, by his very high standards, it was one of his poorer games. I am sure he will come back strong next weekend.

I didn't go yesterday but apparently they play the diamond which would give them an extra man to stick on woods . He is still young so he is not going to be consistent every week but is still one of the greatest asset.

Considering how narrow Cambridge played, Ryan did pretty well in the limited space he had to operate in.
Yesterday was a game where the wide men had room to flourish, and both our wing backs had good spells. Ryan was often the man getting the ball out to them, including several long balls of great quality.

A few ordinary performances between now and the end of January will be fine by me.

If woods is marked out of a game, that's tactics from the opp team - and up to MM to counter it or his team mates to help out...?

There has only been Juan enquiry about him sofa. That was from a Premiership club, so they aren't exactly queuing up.
Any road up, another year with us will do him the world of good.

To a certain extent I agree but, he misplaced a number of passes when not under pressure and turned into trouble when he had ignored an easy pass to a team mate. I think he has a bright future but I sometimes think he looks to lay the "Hollywood" ball, rather than the shorter, safer pass.

I hear you - I guess that comes from gaining experience overt time - although in matches I've seen, my only frustration with Woods is he is sometimes a little too cautious. I'd like to see him attacking the goal a bit more.

Ironic you should say that as the criticism aimed at him this season has been he prefers to play a simple 5 yard sideways pass rather than a more attacking one. I'm sure there has been quotes from Mellon saying they are trying to get him to play a more attacking role which includes more decisive passing, maybe that's what your seeing now

He does however play the lofted 60 yd diagonal cross field pass with a completion rate of well below 50%. These passes were/are trademarks of Charlton, Beckham and Gerrard. Not many mere mortals can match their pass completion rate. I think Ryan has a great future but his pass selection leaves room for improvement.

Staggering performances considering this is his first season in central midfield. He has a great range of passing which is developing all the time but of course there's room for improvement. I would be very surprised if he doesn't follow in the footsteps of McNally, Paul Evans and David Edwards and play at a much higher level in the future. I watched all of those players and his all round game at his age is as good as any of them. He's very consistent which even for the best players doesn't mean playing well in every single game. If I have a criticism it wouldn't be his passing but I would like to see him stick the ball in the net now and again, something the above trio did quite often.
