Its incredible that a town with a population of 250000 cannot sustain a fully professional football team. I dont support KFC but Watson has done an admjirable job in getting them promoted but then if you pay peanuts then you only get monkeys and to expect monkeys to sustain a healthy position in the Conference is expecting too much.
If Lee Carter wants to sustain Conference level football he needs to get shot of the part timers.

He only has himself to blame, which is ironic considering he's spent the last 18 months blaming every sod else.
Cocky, proven f all, sunday league manager.
Even the toothless simpletons 12 miles down the M54 can do better than him.

Not really followed the off field side of things at Telford, but have found it a bit of a surprise they have struggled at Conference level for the last few years.
No surprise the manager has gone after results this season but does look like the set up isn't achieving all its potential.

Don't care who they replace him with, but if radio Shropshire insist on giving them so much airtime I hope they hire someone who isn't annoying/moaner/deluded

I think todays attendance probably had a major bearing on Carters' decision to give Watson the bullet. Less than half of the previous home attendance there today, Whats worse? Going Xmas shopping with the wife or going to watch KFC? It must have been joyous wandering around The Bridge Retail Park!

AFCTU cannot sustain full time football because they are not Telford's club - never have been, never will. Wellington's perhaps, north Telford's maybe, but overall? Lots of Telford people came from Wolves, and to Wolves they go to watch their football.
They struggle in the conference because the conference is vicious now - even clubs like Eastleigh and Forest Green can outbid league two clubs - let alone the former league clubs there.

Andy Sinton went when the club were in a similar position - I look forward to another few months of similar comedy as they look at trying to find a new manager like they enjoyed two years ago.

The brave decision would have been to keep him. My prediction is that they will get relegated now and find it hard to get back up. If he'd stayed they probably would have still gone down but he certainly is very capable of performing at the level below.

I think you've got the town's population mixed up with the borough's population. I hate to say it but Telford is more than capable of hosting a Football League club, but many people in Telford support the team of where they or their family are from, in most cases one of the big four West Midlands clubs (no I don't include Walsall in that!) and even many of the people who do attend games at the Bucks Arse only support them as their second team... many of them are Wolves fans!

Hit it bang on there. During my school time in Telford I was continually ridiculed for supporting Town and this was not because they were Telford fans, it was because Town were (in their words) s**t compared to their beloved Liverpool, United, Chelsea, Wolves etc. I think Telford made a mistake by developing the Bucks Head instead of moving the stadium to the bowl up in Town park. I think that would have made more people go along as Telford's fan base is still predominately from the local area of Arleston and Wellington. Telford Town centre developments are superb, Southwater complex is so good and a football stadium next to that would surely have improved attendances. I think it is difficult to attract a fan base when you're such a small, yoyo club. We're fortunate to have relative stability and a population that are willing to stick with us. I am also a problem, my father was a glory hunter as a child and chose to follow Shrewsbury rather than his local side Telford. Me and my brother have followed in his footsteps but I do like to keep up to date with Telford. This is exactly why I don't enjoy seeing clubs in the lower leagues struggling. We have to compete against wages in Leagues One and Two and clubs in the conference are now having to compete with richer clubs. It is shocking. That is why I think we have to stand together in the lower leagues and stick two fingers up to the premier league clubs. We play football the old fashioned way and we have a consecutive loyal fan base. I would love it if Telford could rise up the leagues and we could have a good local derby again.

When the old club went out of business they had a perfect opportunity to turn it into something the community could be proud of. Instead of starting afresh and thinking "how can we get local lads playing football for us and develop players" they went down the bring in players to get themselves out of the division as soon as we can.
I believe if they had a squad with a core of local players brought through the system rather than bring in players they would be in a position where the local community would identify with them.
Their ground is in a poor state and hasn't been looked after. They have no reserves or youth team to speak of. They hire out their pitch to Wolves for Reserve games. They also have a lot of backing from CapGemini and T&WC. A club in decline.

Lots of Telford people came from Wolves, and to Wolves they go to watch their football. Spot on, as someone who comes from 'South Telford' (Madeley) I don't feel any affiliation to a club who I see purely as a 'Wellington thing' whereas Madeley actually had a STFC supporters club branch in the 1950's! As Nath has suggested, moving to a new stadium at the Town Park in a more central location of the town might have attracted more supporters for them, the development of the Bucks Head was very ambitious at the time and the Whitehorse Hotel is a very smart development.... just a shame that Regent Street is right behind it!

If Lee Carter wants to sustain Conference level football he needs to get shot of the part timers. Altrincham appear to be making a go of being part timers in the Conference with fewer resources than Telford. And they won their huge local derby with Macc yesterday.

New manager is Steve Kitterick ex Guiseley Manager of 6 years standing. Not worth creating new thread I think
Yorkshire based manager seems to go against their expressed desire for a Midlands based manager. !!
