Rampant Americanised commercialism but has anyone spotted any good deals?
Some sales starting at Midnight, others tomorrow at 8am, some already - I logged onto the Curry's website just behind 85000 others, got to the front of the queue, Mother arrived at the door, missed my 10 minute window and now at the back with only 171000 in front.

Discounted tickets for Shrewsbury vs Hartlepool, today only, £15 for an adult.
Get involved people, we moan when the club never does incentives.

Having read some of the press this morning and seen one or two clips of this "Black Friday" malarkey I really do wonder what on earth has happened to the England I left behind. What depressing viewing.

Benjamin Barber's 'Jihad vs McWorld' is a book that I would recommend if anyone has an interest in how consumerism is damaging!

What depressing viewing. I quite agree. this is yet another American import we can well do without. I suppose we'll have this every year now.

What depressing viewing. I wouldn't worry too much Stutty. I've just been out at lunchtime round town to get a few things - a few bottles of claret from Tanners, some shin of beef and vegetables from the market, cheeses from Appleyards and some bread from the bakehouse near the station. No noticeable riots, just good personable service rom all of them

They don't bother with things like that . Theyd much rather shoot people and feck the consequences . I' m sure Black Friday has different connotations in certain states in America .

I slept outside the newsagents from midnight in order to get a packet of extra strong mints. When the shop opened at 6am, I was shocked to see they were for sale at the normal price.
Robbing gits.

According to the news, generally speaking there no more discounted goods today than most other days of the year, it's simply the timing of the sale before xmas rather than after that's new.

I hope some of those grabbing individuals see the video of themselves on the news and realise how deplorable their behaviour was. Can't believe that this was happening in a retail store near all of us!!!

The press have seemingly made these few incidents seem like a common occurrence. Stuttgartshrew, we have a wonderful country and it is a shame that you don't live here any more to enjoy it. However, Germany is a beautiful country also, proud to have been born there!

And I know that as a people (on the whole) we are a superb bunch. And of course I will be back at some point to live in England. I was just a tad shocked by the scenes. As you say though, just some plebs at play...

You don't have to take part then nothings changed except the news showing a load of idiots I hope will end up in court! It's the same with Haloween, was always there but now, fancy dress / trick or treat etc........... You can just ignore these things and carry on as normal as I do

Diversity is great however countries having their own traditions are great it makes visiting places more interesting. It just disappoints me how may American customs are invading our culture. Next people will want the day off for thanksgiving

Next people will want the day off for thanksgiving I'd prefer 4th July if we're going to formalise our Little America status with a bank, sorry "public", holiday! We don't have enough summer holidays. Of course, it'd be much better to have Bastille Day (14th July) but I can't see it somehow, the way our feeble politicians are falling over themselves to be seen as anti-European.

I'm not sure you can blame America for the behaviour of our underclass.
A day / weekend of sales and 'offers' to help fuel the economy at the expense of the poor can't be that bad can it?
I can see them now, wallets drained and credit cards maxed out, sat black eyed in front of their new TVs necking Tassimo coffees.
"Mwahahaha" laugh the men in suits counting up all the profits...
