The Town boss said: “We are a club that do not want to lose our best players. We want to move forward and we want to progress. "If you want to do that then things are simple – you don’t sell your best players. “Ryan is contracted, so anything that may happen we will be in control of. Ryan Woods is ours for another couple of years.
“But there are a number of really talented players at the club and I always tell people they are all absolutely focused on getting the job done this year. “They will not lose that focus and they will stay on task to make sure we can keep moving forward.” www.shropshirestar.com/sport/shrewsbury-town-fc/2014/11/25/shrewsbury-insist-ryan-woods-is-not-for-sale/Interesting that MM said he is ours for another couple of years, I thought he was out of contract in the summer?

Yes, but trust me we are a selling club, someone comes in with the right price and he will be off, very simple really

We are in a great position of not needing to sell our best players. that all sounds great but if someone came in with the right offer (like Taylor) then we should sell. nobody knows What the future holds. That said selling our best players in January wouldn't be a good idea, we should wait till the summer before considering any offer.

We need to sell our best players at the right time, when there is strong demand for their services and the money received allows us to replace them and perhaps improve the squad in other areas. With Hart, Edwards, Collins and Taylor we probably did that but with Rodgers and Lowe we certainly didn't.

Hopefully with MM having that sort of attitude the out of contract players worth keeping will be presented with new contracts before the end of May as in recent years.

Jan transfer windows are the best for talent, because struggling clubs are willing to pay above the odds for young talent, that is in all leagues. If a Championship club came calling with the right price, Adios!!

Every player has a price, every club is a selling club!

I read that and I'm thinking that someone's alreday put an offer that's well below our expectations?

When his deal automatically extended, it said 'at least another year''. The auto extension based on appearances may still apply this season and next.

would be extremely disappointed if we got less than 500k.
He is a good all round CM with loads of potential.
He showed against Chelsea that he can mix it with the big boys and there is no doubt he is heading for a higher level.
No rush to sell him, his pricetag will only rise with the more good games he has and the more clubs become interested in him.
I really think he will be heading to a Premier League team when he does indeed leave us though.

All Mellon is doing is putting up the price of Woods.

Ranks alongside other football nuggets, as in, " the Manager has the full backing of the Board" We all know that a few months down the line the Manager will be gone.

Rumours that Northampton's Ivan Toney is going to Wolves for £500k plus add-ons.
If that is the case, then we should be after £1million plus for Woodsy!

If we get promoted, it's at least £1.5 million for a league Juan player.

I would say we have to get promoted this season if we want to keep hold of Woodsy. He's obviously ambitious and wants to play higher, but that could be with us if all goes to plan.

I take it that none of the above were any of the "supporters" who were basically saying this lad couldn't tie his laces this time last year ?

I remember when I first saw him come on for Salop, I was sat next to a friend and as Woods jogged onto the pitch from the bench I said that he was too small, thin and ran weirdly. I didn't think he'd make it. Then again, that is why I watch football from the stands, rather than working within the sport!
Unfortunately, we'll be holding the lad back if we hold onto him. He was one of our best players in League One despite being played out of position for the majority of the campaign and this season he has shown just how special he is. It is sad to think that we'll be losing the most gifted, creative central midfielder that I have certainly seen at Town. However, we can take pride in yet another prospect coming through our academy with talent like his!
I hope we can hold onto him until the new season at least.

We need to sell him and Connor for decent money.
We were on course to lose 400k this season. Our cup runs will hopefully half that figure which still leaves a substantial shortfall.
MM will be keen to strengthen again over the next few transfer windows. We just need to make sure we have funds available to push on and avoid the fates that befell the last two managers. Solid initial investment which soon dried up.

I'm pretty sure that our glorious FA Cup run to Wembley will net us more than that, and leave us well placed for giving a good account of ourselves in L1 and the Europa League next season

I am sure if Roland gets a sniff of £750k + woods will be off. I agree we need woodsy for promo. immensely proud of his performance last Saturday. pure talent, the centre of a diamond, spraying the ball out of reach of Exeter. blink and the lad was 30 yards away. awesome talent working so well with Grimmer. do hope we see him back in January.
