An experienced centre back.
After reflecting on results since the start of the season I really think we are lacking an experienced centre back to really solidify the back three.
I've watched us drop points against Northampton and Wimbledon this season and just think we are missing that leader at centre back to help out Grandison and Goldson. Just having a level head could make the difference between title contenders and promotion hopefuls.
I still think we'll finish in the top 3 but tonights wake up call is enough to make me think that thos squad just lacks that Sharps/Coughlan leader to help us out. Goldson is still too young which isn't his fault but Lawrence for me just hasn't looked like the captain we need to keep everything settled in the squad.
Also as a final note, Lawrence has a temper on him and I do think he needs to calm down sometimes. If I was MM I think I'd be having words. He could have easily been sent off more times this season including today.
Promotion? Yes Win The League? Not quite there.

Not convinced.
Bad day at the office today but happy with our back three who have a good balance for me. Not sure an old head at the back would have much bearing on today's result. Sounds like our terrible use of the ball was our downfall.
On the Lawrence point... I fully expected him to be hooked after his final warning halfway through the 2nd half. By keeping him on it meant he couldn't risk making another percentage tackle.

Defence has usually been very good and Ellis/NKP are pretty experienced.
Missing piece is Mangan, get him back in and he will finish off the chances.

Don't agree about the defence, but wouldn't say no to a Terry or Ferdinand to boost the bench ;P
LL is an odd one though isn't he, I see your point... Not the first time he's trod a fine line is it.

Would definitely taken our current position at the start of the season and generally things looking good, but always best to keep tweaking things and improving where we can
Like the 3-5-2 formation but do think in a one v one situation the wing backs are a little vulnerable and collectively the defence does sometimes switch off.
Also think we need to be a bit more clinical in front of goal and will be interested to see how Mangan's injury goes. If Collins gets injured the attack lacks a bit of bite
Agree about Lawrence too. Needs to calm down a bit. For an experienced player he seems to loose it a bit too easily - been 2-3 times he has retaliated and in the modern game your lucky to get away with that.

We'd just won 6 league games in a row before today, conceding just 3 goals. Knee jerk.

Goalkeeper- Good keeper that is more comfortable punching but is effective
Defence- is not a problem, one of the best in the league.
Midfield - central midfield we are flush with talent but we lack decent wingers to change things if things are not going to play.
Forwards - Collins is decent, Vernon hasn't shown me anything to show me he is a decent player and I'm not sure what kind of striker he is. Akpa Akpro has a bit of pace, puts himself about a lot but his finishing isn't good. Mangan has potential to be a very good asset but he is to injury prone
If we was to get anyone in I would like to see another forward come in, maybe one that can play on the wing (effectively) as well.

One word , complancency.
I hope Mellon gave them what for after the game. Gifted three points to a poor team after dominating play first half which seems to suggest the team thought they had it won half time. Big mistake.
This division is as poor as i've ever seen it and won't take much to get out of but we still need to see games out in a professional manner despite the poor opposition.
The fact that the Wiggles are top after nearly going down last season says it but second half switch off's like today are our biggest danger going forward .
We don't need any extra personel , we just want a team that plays for ninety minutes.

sorry, but conceding 3 goals has to say something about tightness of defence. I admit I do not attend many games but their goal straight after interval should have been a wake up call. I was behind town's dugout and the ball seemed to go through defenders legs, town's away following will know as it happened in front of them. hopefully a 1 off. IMO MM hesitated too long in making subs. shades of GT, 87th minute!

Bobby Grant. Simple enough. Can not state enough what he creates when on the pitch. To drop him after some of his recent displays seems a strange move for me.
Vs Mansfield he was at the heart of our creativity. Should have dropped Wesoloski for Woods if anyone was to go.

The result clearly shows we are still fragile away from Planet Greenhous. Eight points from 30 is a poor return. We definitely need Mangan back as I don't think either Vernon or Akpa-Akpro are going to contribute many goals and Griffith needs to be used far more to shut down games.

sorry lord, do not consider Exeter a weak team, yes woeful 1st half, which town dominated, but early 2nd half goal and early sub. bringing on wheeler made a lot of difference to their play. paul tisdale Exeter manager is a wily old bird and he and his team played town off the park. or perhaps a coasting town allowed them to. either way it was 3 points donated and IMO, a p**s poor reaction by MM,
next Saturday is the big one. burton at home, I want to see a disciplined team working for each other, for MM and for us.

They have been solid as the stats show, Not only that but they have been good at building attacks. They are not a problem.

Just a personal opinion and basing my opinion mostly on televised games - Rio is no longer good enough whereas Anton has never been good enough.

thankfully I saw town's defence have a good day against Cheltenham at the start of town's 6 match run. we have to hope we can resume normal service at home to Burton next Saturday,

Assuming yesterdays second half proves a one off and a wake up call, more than happy with what we have already at centre back. More concerned with lack of cover in wide areas.

No qualms about our defence, bad day at the office on Saturday and naievity cost us the points. Fully expect us to be tighter than a nuns chuff come this sat and Burton's game plan will be to attack which suits us completely. Last team to do that at our place was the best team in Europe right now and we were an OG away from scaring the bejesus out of em'
I think MM will have made them squirm through that video nasty and I'm sure they will be chopping at the bit to go on another run.

I said that against Mansfield we eased off, and it looks like we've done it again, but this time we got punished. I like the story about Man U winning 4 - 0, and Beckham tried something fancy. Roy Keane gave him a tremendous bollocking, and United won 6 - 0.

Fred, do hope you liked the "just Back" thread. hoping to come up again for the Exeter game on 11/4. not sure if town eased up, certainly conceded a goal in 1st minute of second half, that goal and wheeler coming on galvanised Exeter. Certainly not a weak team. Nuns Chuff! I do hope so.
