Jermaine Grandison and Aaron Wildig.
Perfectly illustrates the precarious nature of a young footballer's profession. A year ago Jermaine was let go after failing to agree a contract whilst still recovering from his serious hip injury: what must he have felt like then? 12 months later he's got himself fit and is back in the team, impressing a new manager in a position most of us knew he is really well suited to. And more importantly, his all round game is improving, one of the stars for me last night despite the rather unfortunate own goal.
Contrast that with Aaron Wildig who 12 months ago was playing his best football for us, a regular in the team in his preferred central midfield position. For whatever reason Aaron, hampered by niggling injuries, has failed to impress MM so far and is even struggling to earn a place on the sub's bench each week. As yet the chance of him kick starting his season elsewhere on loan seems to have come to nothing. What must he currently be thinking right now?
Two contrasting footballers with very contrasting recent experiences. What will the next 12 months bring for them I wonder and will they be with us this time next season?

Pointless thread . You could say the same about probably a dozen of the players who have been with us in last 12 months , some their career have gone up some have gone down , in 12 months who is to say what wildig and grandison will be doing. Look at the likes of Summerfield and winfield , a year ago had good contracts at league 1 level now can't a game at the bottom of league 2. Chris weale another one whose career has dramatically nosedived , as has joe anyon. Bradshaw has had the opposite ride if you like . Then you have loan players like sam winnal who was awful for us and michael hector who was very iffy both doing very well at a higher level . That's football and managers opinions .

Scarcely believable hypocrisy.

I think your comments add quite a lot of point to the thread tbh and well done for finding a way round the blocking function.

Not pointless at all.
On the night that we took on the might of Chelsea, Aaron Wildig was a spectator like the rest of us; he did not even make the bench. That would have been tough on him.
He is becoming the forgotten man of Shrewsbury Town and no doubt he will be reflecting on how tough the professional game can be. As things stand he could be one of many footballers who will be out of a job come next July, personally I hope he can kick start his career, if not with us then with another league club.

Having seen the way Woods played last night you can see why Wildig is out of the team at the moment.
But if Woods should leave, which must be increasingly likely, Wildig could well be back in the side and hopefully putting in performances like he did last season.
Football is an odd game and who knows where Wildig might fit in by the end of the season

Interesting, but would also look at the way various players have been managed differently in that 12 month period as a pointer.

I think Mellons management of STFC has been a huge success so far, but will inevitably end in the sack sometime in the future. As for that of Wildig, he is unfortunate of us having a settled midfield, and it would be poor management to break that other than for injury or poor performances, of which Wildig has obviously not shown the desire or ability to force his way into contention.

But possibly or it could also just be a little bit true. Should we forget what happened prior to Jan of this year when the post is actually about the differences of a year ago, so possibly a little relevant?

Well maybe pointless is not fair , but you could take probably 50% of lower league footballers and make the same analysis . Shaun Mcallister an example had a year out of the game as couldn't find a club then is player of year in a promotion winning side . Nicky wroe another one the list is endless

Should think a fair percentage of threads could be labelled pointless, for example trying to pick the team - the manager isn't going to take any notice as it's his job on the line, so his decision who to play. Then there are the threads about signing someone up for extra years, they listen to their agents and keep their options open these days. How about the threads about players who were let go or chose to leave every time they score. All pointless. But it's good to talk!

Personally I love threads like this - highlights how fleeting success can be in any profession especially one as short as professional sports.
