Dropped by the looks of it, hasn't been great lately and Grandison is better in the middle so I can understand the loan move. I hear he played well today.

Thought he (Gayle) was our weak link last week... Gave the ball away too many times

With all the tactical changes week on week maybe he just gives us a different option in the right back slot.

New chap was 'brought in to give competition to Gayle'.

Gayle must have been dropped yesterday because he did not even make it on to the subs bench.

Right wing back has different demands to right back and I'm not sure if we had a player in the squad to meet those demands adequately. Grandison struggles with the stamina requirements of the position and Gayle offers little going forward. So Grimmer looks like a good signing to me, based on yesterday's performance.

Cheltenham was my annual game. From that you could see the lad is a right back not a wing back. When he needed to run forward his instinct was to stay back, he was almost looking for a winger to pass too and struggled to beat a player. Tough for him then to get loads of abuse for not doing something not in his make up.

From his forays into the opposition half in most games he looks capable of beating players and putting a decent ball into the box, but just appears unsure of when to go and when to sit IMHO. I've no doubt he can get to grips with the position (he was a capable defender in a flat back four) but a little time out of the spotlight might give him chance to do that.

We have previously bemoaned the lack of specialist full backs in the squad (last season immediately springs to mind) so the signing of Cameron Gayle in the summer was welcomed by many of us. Hopefully he will soon again be pushing for a starting place.

Having heard MM's comments on Grimmer and our previous RB position I cannot see Gayle dropping back into the frame any time soon. Grimmer has been on the radar for a while and is viewed as a more natural wing back than Gayle. Just part of the continued program of improvement we'll see throughout the season.

Cameron struggled at Chelts. He made quite a few unforced errors, first touch and control lacking, seemed to tire quickly. That said he did make a few sweet passes and through balls. Chin up for the lad, I'm sure he'll be back.

When MM signed Gayle in the summer I wonder if: a) the manager's intention from the outset was to develop Gayle into a wing back or b) that his original idea of playing Gayle in a flat back 4 in a 442 formation was soon abandoned in favour of 5 man defence with the full backs acting as wing backs? Just a thought but if was a) then the manager would have? taken the advice of Michael Jackson when signing Gayle given that Jackson would know the player's potential from Gayle's previous time at the club.

You're not wrong, Mark. From the time MM came in, he said he would look to improve the squad. I only hope these improvements can be turned into permanent signings.

We (Oxford) have signed him on a short term deal, I would imagine he's back up for the first team and will probobly play in fa cup this weekend and tinpot paint trophy in the week, what are your thoughts on him?? Also how's Barnett doing at your place? I noticed you e also got junior brown, he wasn't really rated at Oxford but I see he's played a fair few games for you

Brownie's done well. At least he's a trier. I've made him MOTM a couple of times. He'll do for me. Cameron was asked to play wing back, but he's more comfortable in a flat back four.

I noticed you e also got junior brown, he wasn't really rated at Oxford but I see he's played a fair few games for you If Gayle is able to get a run of games and builds his confidence he could prove a very decent signing for you. He joined us permenantly after a couple of reasonable loan spells from Albion. Initially last season he struggled to hold down a first team place and was kept out by some other loans including the excellent Grimmer from Fulham. In second half of the season he got back in the team and IMO got better the more he played and made a decent contribution to a promotion winning side. Probably better as a RB than RWB solid defensively and ok on the ball. Still young enough to improve and it surprised a few when he was released rather than given the chance he probably earned to be tested at a higher level and not really been replaced effectively yet. Barnett has been in and out of the team, most effective from the bench to date but certainly helps out defensively from set pieces. Contributes in fits and starts but seems to struggle to get through 90 mins. Junior seemed to be signed as a squad filler along with Shaun Whalley in the summer, but has got in the team recently primarily as LWB and has done pretty well. No real pace but can deliver a cross and got a hell of a s**t on him. Whether he can keep his place longer term is open to question, but definitely one of our better players to date. Roofe looked excellent when you came down to our place towards the end of last season, so no surprise to seem him doing well this season. Can you keep hold of him and will you have enough for a promotion challenge?

Barnett did well for us when match fit, disappointed he didn't sign on perminant deal but to be honest happy we didn't pay silly money for him, it allowed us to get Roofe on loan last season. We've got Roofe on a 3 year deal so can't see him being sold this season as we are right up there. We have some very good players on long term contracts but unfortunately we are getting a lot of praise from national press so would expect some interest in our players www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/oxford-united/11846445/Meet-Oxford-United-English-footballs-most-attractive-team.htmlWhat about you lot, you fully deserved to go up last season, that woods was as good a midfielder as any I've seen, you think you will stay up?

Yes - but it is looking like it will be more of a struggle than it should have been. Manager is still searching for anything approaching a settled side with many of last season's key players gone or woefully out of form. Unusually for us we have funds available having sold woods and goldson (to Brentford & Brighton) but happened at the end of the window so no time to sign replacements. Got a couple of useful loans in (esp Kai Kai from palace) and a few unattached experienced players who would have been great signings in the summer (Whitbread, black, Gerard) but who need to get fit as they haven't been playing. All in all hoping for a stronger second half to the season, stay up and have a real go next year. Key concern is scoring enough goals at the moment. Can see you lot going up with Pompey and Plymouth tbh - swapping places with those lovely Swinedon types!!

Gayle will be in Non-League oblivion in twelve months. It was a little bit , plus a splash of whimsical observation... but considering that both, at times, played their part in Town's record number of clean sheets, and were members of last year's League 2 runners-up squad, I don't think it can be described as a complete joke. There are better ones: "Give it to me," she screamed... "I'm so f*****g wet... give it to me now!" She can scream as much as she likes... she's not having my umbrella.

He joined a few ex Town players who hit the net last night: Bobby Grant, Tom Bradshaw, Ben Davies, Derek Asamoah and Ryan Lowe plus a few ex loanees as well.
