Have we got any keen cyclists on here?
I know it is coming to the wrong time of year for cycling, but I've been looking for some good routes to ride in Shropshire. The most recent ride I did was down silkin way from Telford town centre to Coalport (The Woodbridge), up to Ironbridge where I followed the road along to Buildwas. I then cut across to come out at the bottom end of Wellington (old A5).
I've been thinking of heading up Shrewsbury recently to take the bike out. Are there any cycle routes that anyone can recommend or any clubs local?
Cheers!

Why not join up with a cycle group or club? They know all of the local & quiet lanes to take, you can build up the distance and your strength whilst riding with a group of like minded people.
Not sure where you are from but if in the Telford area give me a PM, can help you no end

The cycle route (can't remember the number) that goes along the river then the old canal, through Uffington, under Haughmond, and then through to Wellington is a nice little ride (or run).

I'm a very keen road cyclist. I try and do upto 150 miles a week but that'll decrease too around 100 ish now the winter is here. I'm with a club. We do some great routes all over shropshire on Sunday's. I love going through Ironbridge, Broseley and Wenlock for some hilly challenges, and over towards Stretton of course. Or if you prefer a flat rolling route I recommend riding out too Dearnford Lake in Tilstock near Whitchurch. Great stop off if you like to take in a cafe as part of your ride. Some great routes around the quiets lanes where I live in the Newport area.

if you are after quiet lanes, I would head for pulverbatch, over cothercot hill, to wescott, or even better Pulverbatch to Pontesbury via Habberley. excellent white hors pub at pulverbatch, assume good pub at pontesbury. ordinance survey map would be useful.

There are also some useful apps from which you can upload routes to a smartphone. I use RidewithGPS.
Strava can be fun too, although some take it way too seriously.

If I've done the link right there are some good family friendly cycle routes in this leaflet www.travelshropshire.co.uk/media/14518/shrewsbury-cycle-rides.pdfIf you want something a bit longer you can combine a couple. I'm more of a leisure cyclist but like going out of town along the river, through Uffington, upto Upton Magna then join the national route upto Morton Corbett. From there can cut across towards Bomere Heath and back to town through Fitz and Montford

Are you aware that you can go all the way to Bridgnorth from The Woodbridge on a cycle path?

Back of the Woodbridge is the old railway line that goes to Bridgnorth. Nice quiet ride about 8 miles long on a hybrid/mtb. Wouldn't ride my road bike on it again but some nice views as you approach Bridgnorth

Shropshire is brilliant for cycling. The lanes between telford and shrewsbury, around the Rodington, Roden, Shawbury area are pretty flat and quiet. If you want hillier then head towards South Shropshire. Wenlock, Cardington, Church Stretton, Ludlow are great areas to ride in, but a good pair of lungs and legs needed for those hills!!
