agree with everything the Shropshire Tenor says. how any body can give the Lloyds building an award is beyond me. assume it was Lego. the Facia hits you from a long way up High St. The new Market hall grows on me each visit, and for me this is the town's sole modernist success. The New (not so new nearly 50 years later) Market Hall Tower and clock is a diabolical structure and I have always hated it!

Why is it that Shrewsbury Town Centre has been subjected to such monstrous constructions over the years, either planned or actually built.
This new building is the equivalent of having clippy replaced by fozzy bear as our new shirt emblen.

During the 1950s/60s my aunt was involved in various campaigns to save landmark buildings in the town. The demolition of the old Shirehall in the Square was an act of vandalism for which those involved should be ashamed. She also campaigned for the old Market Hall and Raven Hotel. Don't think they're as badly missed although the buildings that replaced them are of little merit. Your aunt was very perceptive- I personally didnt like the photos I have seen of the old market hall it was a Victorian monstrosity but we replaced it with another monstrosity The Raven Hotel and the demolition of the old shirehall were shameful decisions
