How long before somebody starts questioning our supposed saviour? No goals away from home since Leicester? Down to 12th in the table. Defeats at Hartlepool, Stevenage, Southend and Plymouth. Loose away to York and home defeats against Cheltenham, Pompey and Bury then Mellon could be gone before we play Chelsea.

Trust me, if we hadn't had 3 away games in a row and had been split by home wins, you would not have made this post. We haven't found our feet yet away from home, obvious there is something wrong with the confidence. I don't think the ability of our players is too worrying, however, persisting on playing Woods and Weso in a two man center midfield partnership is something that just will not work unless one of them dramatically changes, and it was a huge problem last season. If we do lose those 3 home games, there will be questions asked of Mickey Mellon, however that's in three games. If you'd have said we'd lose these away games, I don't know how many fans would agree with you, especially the way we played vs Luton. So to make that call and even venture it as a possibility is very strong indeed, and something even I wouldn't dream of saying.

Not yet, but he needs to prove we're not just a cup team. I'll reserve judgement but unconvinced at this point. We should be doing much better.

he has recruited a squad full of quality, we have been excellent at home and in the cup. I doubt he could have done much more. The away from is confusing, either the players have got themselves in a rut mentally about going away or Mellon is setting them up wrong.
We are a good team but we are having a dip in form and hopefully you will be back to are best next Saturday, we can't let are away form drag down are home performances
The sooner Chelsea knock us out of the cup the better, with the money we have spent we should/need to be in the play offs minimum.

Mellon has shown that he can get us playing decent football and winning. Up to the players to perform and they haven't been doing that. Loan market for a winger? Ony natural wingers are Vincent,Caton and Robinson. Putting Lawrence and Clark on the bench is not on and I expect to see both start in our next game. Mellon needs to find his best team and formation soon! Definitely won't be calling for the sack, we are a work in progress at present.

Sad state of football that this thread isn't surprising. People get over excited by a couple of wins and then go into panic mode when it goes the other way round
Generally ive been impressed by Mellon ' start but have reservations about him, I think Paul Simpson is still fresh in the memory but to even suggest he's got to go is idiotic.

I remember a few seasons ago when Simmo was manager we went nearly all the season before winning away. it was fortress meadow that kept us going from memory. cannot remember where we finished that season.

Certainly knot. We've got a decent squad, but we haven't gelled yet, which is rather surprising. I think it's unfair to leave Connor as captain in this poor run. He's only young, and needs to be able to concentrate on his own game. We need Lawrence to get out there and lead us out of this situation.

Is it Jacko that needs to take a walk?
Different players, different league, but similar problems?

Was that the season we finally won away in the last game (or last but one) and played Gillingham in the play off final at Wembley?

Always amusing to see the drama kittens react when football doesn't quite work out as they hoped.
Give me consistency and stability over chaos and knee jerk sackings any time.

there you are, and there is still time to gel and go 1 or 2 better. the liquid in AJ's glass is gently rising, but we must win at home, we must win.
as Gordon the Blue Engine once said " we can do it, We must do it, We WILL do it ! good old Gordon, we have enough Thomas's and Henrys out on the pitch to win well. confidence and morale is the answer. and not a little motivation. Roland! get that hip flask out and pass it round! our Gelling squad is making a come back!

We've started the season with nearly a brand new squad, I think we all expected it to take a while for things to gel.
Perhaps the good start has led to raised expectations and now we've hit a sticky patch, people are showing they have very little patience when it comes to allowing a manager to bed in a new set of players.
That said, the lack of goals and near inevitability of defeat on the road is worrying.
The victories over Leicester and Norwich look impressive and make nice headlines, but it's very difficult to gauge the quality of the opposition in those games.
We know they have played second-string/reserve sides, or at least sides with plenty of changes from the ones they put out for their league fixtures.
So, just a case of being patient and waiting for Mellon to find his best XI and the players to develop more of an understanding, or a squad that isn't up to the job of challenging for promotion from this division?
Time will tell.
For now we really have very little option but to support the team and keep the faith.
ps anyone fancy a dabble in the loan market?

How long can we play the "time to gel" card. Every teams got a number of new players. I'm sick of hearing it. Surely thats what they do all week in training. Jackson out.

I said last week give it until December / January to reserve judgement on Mellon but I'm not sure he's going to make it until then.
This is not a blip, this is a collapse that has seen us lose against some poor sides including 2-0 to Hartlepool who have just gone bottom. One goal in six league games!!!
Let's be honest, if Leicester and Norwich had played their first teams we wouldn't be in the cup still and if it wasn't for the false dawn in August we would now be bottom.
How long is this going to go on for??
Roland was ruthless with Quinn a decade ago. Not saying he's going to sack Mellon now but another month of this continuing collapse and he could be thinking about it.

The Lawrence situation seems so obvious, there must be more to it? Something we aren't aware of... I don't know..
But to say they haven't gelled yet?! I can't agree with that. Some of the passing in the cup at Leicester and at home to Norwich was proof of that surely?

Things have gone wrong in September but this season was never going to be easy and we are only 8 points of top with 3 of the next 4 games being at home we can hopefully rekindle some of the early season form.

What concerns me is that the two worst sides to visit the Meadow (Accrington and Luton) are both now above us in the table.

The question of whether Mellon was the right appointment is a totally fair one.
But not a debate to be having now.
And 'Mellon Out' is just nonsense.

For some reason he seems to be indispensible as far as RW is concerned.

I don't know why people are expecting quality all the time either, just because we've spent a lot. That is not just going to happen and to expect it to is ridiculous. Look at some of the other squads out there, you may say they're weaker but performing better. At the moment Shrewsbury are not performing in the 90 minutes only the pitch, and that needs to change.
