Just recently on my iPod:
Alvvays - Party Police / Archie, Marry Me Beck - Blue Moon / Heart Is A Drum / Wave Perfume Genius - Queen / Put Your Back N 2 It The Wytches - Burn Out The Bruise Broken Bells - Holding On For Life / After The Disco Lucius - Turn It Around The Hosts - Give Your Love To Her Little Dragon - Klapp Klapp Lia Ices - Wish You Were Here Augustines - Nothing To Lose But Your Head Damon Albarn - Everyday Robots Broncho - Class Historian Vampire Weekend - Step Interpol - All The Rage Back Home Gavin Bryars - The Sinking Of The Titanic
Also had a slight obsession last night trying to find the best version of "Guantanamera", a beautiful song in need of reclaiming from the barstewardised monster beloved of footie crowds.
Pete Seeger gets the protest element right but lacks the Latin rhythm, The Sandpipers' version is melodic but a bit schmaltzy, some of the Latin versions don't really get the melody. I'm thinking maybe Joan Baez but now today sees some new versions thrown up - I have to try Wyclif Jean, Celia Cruz, Buena Vista Cuban Players ...
My obsession grows - yo soy un hombre sincero ...

Really ? That takes me back - not listened to them for years - haven't they been banned for political correctness reasons ? I remember their 'musical' response to the Falklands - "nuke them 'til they glow". My first day of working in a bank from 9-5 I couldn't get the "sticky hand jive" line out of my head. I preferred Half Man Half Biscuit myself - which I will listen to tonight on the way home to remind me of my youth.
