As it is a Tuesday night I believe that the Park and Ride at Meole may be open. If we have extra seating in the corners it could increase the capacity by 2000? I would hope that whoever is in charge of the Emstrey and Preston Boats islands work are part of the planning for the night? Also the people working outside Percy Throwers.
There will be a lot of non-regular home supporters and 1700 away supporters looking for directions to the stadium and parking. I hope that there is a meeting of all of the interested parties involved in traffic control and safety. Otherwise it could be a logistical nightmare getting people to and from the stadium safely.

I think at best it would add 500 due the safety concerns, restricted viewing etc. it is only a thought/idea at the moment, nowt set in stone. Cost might out way the benefit.

I hope some moron doesn't park in front of the gates at Super Blues way either! The main culprits for big matches are TV vans which need to be placed else where... Also club could do with hiring some temporary lighting which could be placed inside the fences lighting the path

If the gate has to be shut and we've got an extra 3000 home fans and it is a night game with the park and ride open that's the greatest challenge. The park and ride must have had 300 cars in for Norwich game.

Regardless of whether the cars were in the way or not, and they were, I stood and watched the crowd patiently queuing to exit left towards Sainsburys. It was a solid wall of people making slow progress along that path and under the railway bridge. Fortunately the floodlights were still on for 10-15 mins after the game which gave some illumination to the path. However, I was waiting for my son to finish stewarding duties and just as we started down the path half of the lights were turned off. we stumble along as so many others do.
The issue of a string of simple lights attached to the fence which can be turned on and off manually by the stewards is surely small money in the interests of public safety. I had this conversation many times during my time at the club, feeding back comments from supporters and still nothing has been done.
This is down to the club in my opinion as they are encouraging people to walk down that path by opening gates in the fence and encouraging people to park at the park and ride. I want the club to have as much support from the public as possible. This a thorny issue which has a simple solution and will improve the match day experience for many.

Why should it matter at a game v Chelsea and not at a game v Carlisle ?

Perhaps 'temporary' was the wrong term. Portable would be better such that they can be stored when not in use to avoid vandalism and theft. A simple line of lights that could be hooked on the fence and reeled in afterwards would suffice. We are not talking about installing posts and having arc lights and fixed wiring. I think it is called a 'festoon' of lights - might be wrong though.

One suggestion I would definitely make is to have a steward(s) keeping an eye on traffic build up on Oteley Road. In particular from the Sutton Grange side. For the Ukraine game there were a lot of people who didn't know or understand the parking restrictions (just hoping to park at that ground). Just someone walking along the road and ask the driver if they have a parking permit, and if they don't then directions to the Darwin, Brooklands, Shirehall, Meole P and R and the shrewsTRUST bus location could mean the difference between people seeing and not seeing kick off.

I'm not saying the club shouldn't provide a permanent solution just a quick fix whilst they sort it out.. tenders and the like

When the ground was built I'm sure part of the travel plan was for there to be parking at SCAT on London Road for big games, with coaches in from there. Don't think I've seen that happen in practice but might be an option for the Chelsea game.

Doesnt it speak volumes of our grounds location and facilities that people are concerned about how it will cope with a sell out, for a ground that is only 7 years old it really does show such poor planning and how inconvenient it can be.
I appreciate the development on Oteley Road does make the situation worse and is beyond the clubs control but parking, access, lack of lighting on walkways, well its highlighted even more on the few times we will get a big crowd.

A senior employee in an organisation identifies an issue that impacts the fans, has been identified as a major issue, has a simple solution and yet the organisation can't sort it. Multiply that by god knows how many times, and it helps you understand what a mess we got into and are now having to come back from.

What was the 'gate' in terms of this not being resolved on your watch? Ade

Not sure I understand your question, Ade?
We managed to get the gates put in at the back of the West Stand to enable supporters to access the ground from Super Blues Way via Oteley Road or Sainsbury's. Before that you had to walk all the way round the stadium and through the main gates.
