Not surprised. Priorities are changing these days with money being tight.

sadly footy on telly is a major draw. town have really spent this summer and are planning a re brand next summer, this is no way to repay that. it is easy to say this from Devon, but I intend to play my part next month at the Cheltenham game.

It's a dispiritingly low turnout whichever way you cut it.

Lots of demands on finances, I had work, Champions League on TV, 3 games in a week, school night. Reasons or excuses for low attendance I suppose, Listening on Radio Sloppy whilst watching Champ League on TV.

€20 to watch Carlisle or £12 to watch us against Norwich next Tuesday. Hmmm which would I choose if I can't afford both? plus there's Newport on Saturday.

Think the low season ticket sales will show in games like tonight. If you brought a season ticket you would probably go tonight, as you paid anyway. If you didn't Carlisle at home and a home game Saturday you'd probably give it a miss
Based on quality of play on display tonight those who stopped away didn't miss too much

£20 for Shrewsbury Town vs Carlisle United on a Tuesday night appeals to very few people. I only paid £14 and hate myself for it.

For one person to goto the 3 games in a week it will cost you no less than £52 quid. That is not even taking into account taking the kids or paying for food, program or fuel. Out of the 3 this is the less glamourous, So only being 6/700 home fans down isnt to bad.

3 home games in a week is the obvious reason/excuse.
But as much as people celebrate the success of the summers ticketing turnaround, let's not forget that people could pay £16 to watch L1 football, they now have to pay £20 for L2 football. That will always be a factor for casual fans.

It's School night and £20 at least to watch bottom division Football, theirs a game on Saturday V a new team and Carlisle never sounds tempting.

If I didn't have a season ticket I would have gave tonight a miss.
Think its the first sub 4k crowd for a League match at Oteley Road as well?

Too many games scheduled near the start of the season. Fans don't have deep pockets and why have live football on TV when there are league games on at the same time? Three defeats in a row wouldn't have helped.

Decided to work for this one. Money is tight like many and unfortunately sacrifices have to be made! I'm a ST holder but I made a tenner (doesn't sound a lot) by giving it a friend.
With that £10 I can now go to the Norwich game.
But I'm sure many people were put off by start of school term, 3 defeats in a row and I'm sure many like myself who went to fields forever probably spent a pretty penny too much on £4 pints.

Attendances are always low on Champions League nights. Not quite sure why the Football League schedule fixtures for these dates

on the plus side, Newport are only a train ride down the line and may bring a small following up , well bigger than the 4 from Carlisle
having splashed out on 2 year contracts, pledged a re brand and new badge next year the board and CEO should be expecting gates of 4300 odd mid week and say 5k on a Saturday, particularly as town are in the hunt for promo. I agree, time to offer midweek deals to encourage support, which in turn may encourage our temporary goal shy lads up front.
some club coon is going to take a Sepp Blattering from our strike force, ok not Carlisle, Newport?
Floreat Salopia!

Think you'll find plenty of people are away once the kids go back to school and holiday prices drop......
We all moan about the price being high but, it's lower than 20 years ago taking inflation COL et al into account!
The real reason is the poor marketing by the club over the last few years which is continuing despite the new CE although we've got to give him a chance to turn this round I guess. Oh and plenty haven't swallowed their pride and returned after the debacle last season, we need a really good run to do that.

Quite honestly this 3 games in a row argument just doesn't wash. There has been a gap of 2 fixtureless Saturdays since the last home game. Presumably the moaners frittered away their money on other trivialities instead of keeping a reserve for the 3 games.

We all moan about the price being high but, it's lower than 20 years ago taking inflation COL et al into account! Blimey, is that true? Mind you, even if it were the thing you have to consider is how much disposable income folk have in this day and age. From my own experience everything (as in food, rent, heating, gas, electric, travel) is going up apart from my wage. Whether it's cheaper than way back when I'm not sure but even if it were, if you money is needed elsewhere it doesn't really help... Interested where you get that from though, that it is cheaper now than 20 years ago...

Attendances are always low on Champions League nights. Not quite sure why the Football League schedule fixtures for these dates the football league will never win . You have people complaining about the busy early schedule (before champions league) . Then we have a Tuesday off (which is seen as a well needed break ) , then we play a game on a champions league night and they get slated for it . Maybe it's the fact Tuesday night games just have a boring feel to them . Last night I was genuinely bored for 80% of it . Mostly due to there being nobody there and it Having a reserve game feel to it .

Maybe, but wages in real terms have gone down while other costs have gone up. www.ons.gov.uk/ons/rel/elmr/an-examination-of-falling-real-wages/2010-to-2013/art-an-examination-of-falling-real-wages.htmlAnyway as Matt suggests this is purely down to a drop in season ticket sales and part of a general decline in home attendances since the move.
