Was hoping we'd be out of sight now. They're bound to have a right good go if it's just the one nil Carlisle. Come on Town, see this out...

also on facebook and on text on tv. otherwise AJ is in the dark down here. bbc football on computer does text updates. I just keep switching.
3883 supporters must be a little concerned at our strikers efforts unless Carlisle have had a miraculous re awakening at the back.
Northampton 5 h/pool 1
a win is a win 3 points we have made progress tonight, but 2 awkward away games at southend and argyle to follow Newport at home. do hope club is supported on Saturday.

Odd game. Probably one just to take the points from and forget about
On the one hand we had plenty of chances and could have won comfortably. On the other the play seemed predictable and tactics we employed seemed to play into Carlisle's strengths and not ours. Few wobbles in defence could have cost us the points
Really think work is needed on midfield as an attacking unit and playing strikers in wider roles isn't working for me.
Good to get the win but hard to see us winning too many games with play and tactics tonight

Good to get the win but hard to see us winning too many games with play and tactics tonight Pretty much my thoughts. Woods and Wes was closed down well and didnt get much time on the ball and they lost everything in the air. It was crying out for the quality and experience of our supposed captain. Collins tried and got into good positions but tonight was not his night. Grandison did not have a very good game imo. His crossing was awful 80% of the time although he got in some good positions and took his chance very well. I hope we play with midfielders in midfield on Saturday because having the option of bringing on two fresh strikers later in the game really worked in our favour in our early games. Mangan is wasted on the wing. A deserved win against what i would class as the best team we have played down here all season.

I think Woods/Weso in the middle has only worked when Clarke has been in front of them and we have played 3 at the back / wing backs.

Thought Woods, Weso and Grandison were three of our better players tonight alongside Ellis. Thought we did very well in the first half but looked nervy in the second. Finding a good balance up front/out wide seems to be the main priority at the moment,

I thought Woods was very good. But he doesn't get anywhere near the opponents box & therefore the pairing of him and Weso, although not bad, doesn't really offer much in an offensive sense. Akpro is going to be a mixed bag and it's time Mangan was given a run up front. As was the case at Stevenage, tonight we spurned many opportunities though few were clear cut. My opinion differs greatly to an above post, I thought Carlisle were toothless. Pretty dreadful considering we were far from flowing ourselves. Room to improve but back on the winning trail. Time to sod other teams and go with what we're best at IMO. 3 5 2 with Clark at his brilliant best please. Yes we will come unstuck at times but we have the ability to make it work more often than not in this division, I feel.

First game for me tonight.. And not one to remember.. But
I thought we played quite well, Ellis MOTM for me he won every single ball! Connor solid to.
Woods and Weso played well together but not a good partnership!
My biggest issue was Collins and Apka Akpro looked like they met in the car park before the game..
Would have liked to have seen Lawrence and Vernon come on for Collins and woods.
But at the end of the day it's 3 points..

Mangan is not a winger. Play him down the centre with Collins and draft in either Vincent or Lawrence into the midfield.

Scoreline aside this has been quite poor. We have nothing going forward through the middle at all and it's depressing seeing so many long balls from a team we know can pass for fun ? ? ? If I was the manager I'd take Woods off for Lawrence and swap Akpro and Mangan around. Why have the top scorer on the wing and sitter misser up front? ... Still, we are winning thankfully so prob no change. Lets hope for a more entertaining second half! Time to rest Woods, and bring Lawrence or Wildig into the CM as he sits too deep at times and I thought v Stevenage he was to lightweight at times. I would not have taken Collins off as we were unable to hold the ball upfront afterwards. Poor performance but glad we were able to grind out a 1-0 win!

Don't buy this love affair with Ellis. Sure, he wins most in the air but was badly exposed twice in the second half by getting too close to the opposing attacker and being turned easily. The defence has always looked better without him and three at the back.

Woods was excellent! I particularly enjoyed how he made us wait till the 19th minute before he played a forward pass. I knew he could do it, the little tease!
In all seriousness.... I could be accussed of bashing Woods but I do rate him and he makes a positive contribution to the team, but the midfield is not working. Is it down to management instructions, confidence? I noted far too often when we broke forward in and around there box Woods and Weso still on the half way line. I could only assume thats management instructions as we have 3 strikers and Clarke on the pitch, but you have to remember one winger is technically playing wide. Its far too unbalanced.

I almost fell asleep during the first half, our play was so predictable. Into midfield, wide, back, across the back four, wide, back into midfield , and we have got precisely nowhere. I' m all for this "keep the ball" possession football, but we seem to be doing it for no real reason. When we did show some adventure and got down the sides the final ball into the box was poor or we bad maybe one player in the box. A.A. And Collins played too far apart, and at times too deep, and A.A. is more effective out wide as has been said. Mangan is a box player, pure and simple, so why play both out of position.
The football we play is a vast improvement on last seasons pap but watching pretty football with no end product is becoming a tad boring. If we are going to play possession football it needs to be played a lot faster. Last night was like watching a friendly pre-season game.

I thought that our first half performance was considerably better than the second. It was disappointing that we gave them so many opportunities in the second half.
Anyway, the play last night was brilliant. In the first half nothing seemed to go wrong for us with the distribution from the back. I like that we're playing passing football and with Woods creativity, we're finding passes and getting into positions that we could have only dreamt of last season. It is such a shame Woods isn't a bigger lad because with a bit more physicality, he could really be something special. Technically anyway, he is a joy to watch. Wesolowski was my MOTM for his relentless work rate and distribution. I cannot see Wildig getting into this midfield and I think Lawrence will find it difficult if our midfielders put in performances like that regularly.
While I came away feeling very positive, Carlisle didn't really bring much to the game. I thought their starting striker was massively out of shape and did very little all game. Their midfield was pretty anonymous throughout with Wesolowski winning everything from the air. Their wingers didn't really get at Grandison which improved his game because he knew how much he could get forward. We created 15 chances last night which was good to see, it was just a shame only 4 were on target.
Overall, I thought we put a great shift in, but if I was a Carlisle fan, I would have been frustrated with the performance the team put in. You've got to pick up points from teams that come here to defend which IMO they did for 85 minutes of the game.
We're moving in the right direction! COYB!

After tearing Luton apart, why revert to last season's style of the keeper rolls it out, putting someone under pressure and they then have to give it him back or play it square along the back line, thus getting nowhere fast. We then had a variation on the theme when the keeper rolls it out to Connor, he knocks it short to Weso who gives it back and Connor reverts to last season by launching it into space. I know league tables mean sod all in September but Cobblers are now above us on goal difference, highlighting how idiotic we were playing keep ball for most of the second half against Accy, when we could have scored six or seven. Weso was my man of the match, closely followed by Ellis and Grandison (even though his crossing was worse than Sam Aiston's.

Woods + Creativity = ? doesn't add up ?
He keeps possession granted, maybe has he gains more experience he'll become more offensive. I hope, because I do rate him.
