Must be the highest paid Non Playing Captain in the League if not the known Universe........
Saw him play in the Development Squad ( for those of my age that is the in description for The Stiffs I believe ) on Tuesday and he ran the midfield on his own, spraying 40 and 50 yard passes with total accuracy all over pitch at will.
MM obviously has his reasons but I'm a bit confused as to what they might be.
I was convinced he'd come on at some stage yesterday, half time even, when imo, Weso and Woods weren't having the best of days in the middle.
Carrying a slight injury maybe??....anyone know??.......
Any conspiracy theories?? anyone even better, like hes a lump of lard and is this Seasons Doble or McQuade........

Goldson as captain seems like a masterstroke when we are winning but when we're not I just think it's a burden to a young player learning his trade at centre back. So for that reason alone, I would like to see LL back... tough on either Woods or Weso to make way though, as they have been our best 2 centre mids so far this season IMO

Don't think you should ever pick someone just because they are captain. If woods and the Aussie are doing well they should keep their place. If the armband is too Much for goldson then find a different captain from within the side . Lawrence for me has to earn his place again

Lawrence for me has to earn his place again How much more can he do than 'he ran the midfield on his own, spraying 40 and 50 yards passes with total accuracy all over the pitch'? Add to this his experience and maturity then surely he can lead the side better than Goldson who hasn't managed to lead the team to a point (or even score) in the last 2 games. No criticism of Goldson, it was the same last season, he played well but the team didn't perform because of a lack of leadership and experience. I would have thought giving Lawrence the arm band back would revitalise the team and give fresh momentum, as long as he doesn't get sent off.....

It is strange that he can't get a game. I would play him on the left personally because the wing is where we are weakest imo.

It's crying out for somebody who can play a cutting edge ball through the middle , or take a shot now and again. Woods seems scared to shoot . For me i would swap woods for Lawrence on Tuesday .

Bob near enough every game woods is getting MOTM nominations on here so dropping him would be madness.
We should start with midfielders in midfield and bring akpa akpo and Vernon/mangan on later in the game.

Not much point in being MOM in a losing team... its all about someone leading the team to victory, not having a graet game and losing. whilst it would be harsh to drop Woods the manager has to manage the team to get the best results which isn't quite happening away at the moment..... been a hell of a long moment watching Salop lose away!

The problem isn't in midfield You can't have 13 shots at goal and not score. The fact that we had so many attempts over the last two games suggests that the midfield is doing a good job.

It's a tricky one to call as while Woods and Wesolowski have played well in central midfield they are quite similar and don't tend to get forward into the box that much
Not seen that much of him but think Lawrence might get in the box a bit more and create space for the strikers by drawing defenders away from their marking duties
Would be harsh on either Woods or Wesolowski to get dropped though.
Wonder if Woods playing more as a right winger would work? Always seems to put in good crosses in the warm up and last seasons experience would make him able to fill in for Gayle/Grandison if they go forward

No criticising Woods or Wes at all but they are two similar and we lack creativity! They are both excellent at the jobs they naturally do but they don't compliment each other

Woods struggles badly passing the ball forward at times. Always looking for the square ball.

I get your point, however if we are losing games surely it is not the players that are playing well that are the problem. The managers job is to pick a team and formation that has your best in form players playing in a way that will get you the three points.

That's true if you think strikers should score all the goals and midfielders create all the chances. We've lacked goals from midfield for a long time and so far this season that's continuing (Clark's 2 against Luton being the exception). There's no crisis when we're creating so many chances but the conversion rate has to be better and that's not solely down to the strikers. I agree with those who say we sometimes lack enough go forward with Woods and Wesolowski, as well as they've been playing. Bringing the quality and experience of Lawrence into a team on a losing run just seems sensible. Captaincy's irrelevant in my opinion. We're not losing because our captain's a young man.

Yes, I agree with this. Although some of the misses by our strikers on Saturday were shocking, we also need our midfielders to be more of a threat.
I don't think either Woods of Wes are the sort of players who are going to hit the net regularly and really can't see why Lawrence wasn't thrown into the mix on Saturday. He's probably the best setpiece specialist we've got and is more "forward-thinking" in his play.

I'm not slating woods one bit for the job he does for the team . Sometimes you need something different though . Claude Makelele used to get MOM most weeks for Chelsea but if you want somebody spraying 40 yard balls or driving into the box with the ball he was not the man .

We lost three on the spin and now struggled to scrape a one nil win at home against a managerless side who sit bottom of Lg2!
Are we going for promotion or not!?
Why is the captain STILL sat on the bench!?

I was hoping he would get some time on the pitch tonight . Waste of a quality player sitting on the bench . Don't no exactly how many shots we had from the edge of the box tonight that went over the bar but it's crying out for some quality in that area .

None us see what they do in training. Sure he will get his time again, got to rotate he will play again and then you can find something else to moan about.

Portsmouth were still having to pay him when he signed for Town. Didn't the club come to some sort of deal with them? Might that have had some clause about the number of appearances he could make before extra money was due? Keep him on the bench for now so that he'll be available later on maybe? Who knows?

Portsmouth weren't "still paying him" in the way you imply, they just owe him money and are paying him that money in instalments (as they are many of their former players).
