Disappointing when we managed to beat them last season when we were supposed to be rubbish.

Just back to Cambridge.
my goodness - that was shambolic, really terrible. Looked half promising for first 30 and should have been two to the good but a lucky goal and a truly miserable second half and a pretty horrible display. No invention, too many long balls and beaten by a thoroughly poor team. Long ball after long ball was meat and veg for a horrible horrible team.
Only brightside is I don't have to support Stevenage and I'm in the pub already.
Woods, again, best of a bad bunch!!

Whilst a demoralising defeat, it certainly isn't without positives. Some of the lads emerged with credit on their side today. Woods, NKP and Weso all impressive today for me (Andy Townsend style ROFL!)
Whilst I support him unfailingly as he's Salop. Mangan really does have a nasty streak. Constant ****ishness to the other team. Also far too keen to show he's a "baller" rather than taking the easy ball. Also absolutely hoofed a couple of easy through balls to winger - he looked like a right paedohawk.
All in all a boring away day. Anyone know if those rumours of a Salop fan being chucked out at half time for touching himself in the toilets are true? Heard a few independent sources mention it in the burger queue. Certainly a first for me if so!

Personally I thought we wasn't that bad, other than scoring.

Wesolowski gave ball away way too much IMO. woods and Granders were good. Collins work rate brilliant again. Lack end product V a very good goal keeper today. Worst type of team to go 1 down to. If we would of taken lead would of battered them. looking alot more promising going forward and alot more choices to choose from. dip in form we will be back on it. Pipe down panic button pushers.

Same here, decent display, plenty of chances created and restricted Stevenage at the other end.
There's no doubt if we don't get an away win soonish it will start to become a stigma and could definitely effect confidence but for now I'm not too concerned.

A very disappointing result and a performance slightly lacking in invention but, unlike last week, we didn't deserve to lose this time. We had a few chances and should have scored at least one of them. Stevenage had barely anything and scored a s**t deflected goal. Just one of those days.

Did not go but is the link in midfield the correct balance with Woods and Wes? it either needs a change of 1 of them or an extra man with them to allow the ball to move forward that bit quicker. I no i go on about Wildig but this is the sort of thing we are missing. Personally would like to see us play 4-3-3 especially away from home.

Did feel it was exactly the sort of game that Wildig could have had a positive impact on, or even Robinson (who I'm increasingly let wondering why we bothered signing him.) Mellon's seemed proactive with his substitutions, which made it all the more surprising he only chose to make one yesterday.

The consensus seems to be that we are creating plenty of chances but not putting them away. Even in the recent losses, the current midfield duo seem to have come out with more credit than most. So I don't understand your argument. IMO Wildig is way down the central midfield pecking order so he will have to wait for injuries/suspensions to get a chance.

Agree. Our problem isn't the lack of opportunity crested by the midfield, it's surely the lack of a clean clinical finish! Starting to loose a little confidence up front perhaps?

:)I think we will see when Wildig gets his chance just how much we are missing him. A prodigious talent who we are missing at the moment, some- one who can provide that something extra.
I might even start a "bring back Wildig" campaign.

On another day we'd have won the game, we seemed to do everything but score. Admittedly we didn't meet the high standards which we've set in earlier games...but we really didn't play that badly. Stevenage were hoof ball, time wasting thugs but then again what would you expect from a team managed by Westley. The disappointing thing is we seemed to match it at times as opposed to keeping the ball on the deck considering we play far better that way.
Their goal was plain hard luck, poor shot deflected into the goal which we couldn't do anything sbout...Micky Mellon was definitely not wearing his lucky pants. Jean Louis hit his 1 on 1 inches wide, we hit the post from a header can't remember who it was, their keeper made a few good saves but all in all we were the better team..we had 16 flippin shots!! NKP my motm played class. Onwards and upwards COYB

Not sure I'd agree with that. I know we had 16 shots according to the stats, and we were undoubtedly unlucky to not take anything from the game, but apart from a couple of Akpa-Akpro's we didn't create that much in the way of cast-iron chances. There was a lot of slightly scrappy chances from set-pieces or similar (which given the ping-pong nature of them, probably explains how we got to 16 attempts) but these largely came in concentrated periods; there were large spells of the game where we created next to nothing. Would like to see Wildig returning to the fold, even if it's just from the bench to begin with.

Wildig can pick some brilliant forward passes and it's a shame to not see him in the fold.
Lack of wingers would make me go for something like this.
------------Wesolowski-------------
Lawrence---Woods----Wildig-----
--------------Clark-----------------
-------------Collins----------------

"We didn't create that much in the way of cast-iron chances" How about the two great chances that Collins spurned? In the first half when he passed it straight to their keeper with the goal wide open. And in the second half when he headed in front of the better-placed Ellis, and put it over the bar.
"Lack of wingers" The lack of width was a real problem yesterday. Apart from the full-backs occasionally, no one was getting down the sides of a packed penalty area.
"Only one sub" To use only one when we're 1-0 down from the 36th minute poses a few questions. Turneresque behaviour from Mellon. And what about that sub? By replacing Clark with Vernon, we adopted a formation of 2 diminutive central midfielders sandwiched between 4 centre backs & 4 strikers. You can understand something like 4 strikers in the last 5 desperate minutes, but from the 62nd?
Better to bring on someone to attack down the flanks and get some crosses in, IMHO. If you're not going to bring on Vincent in those circumstances, then maybe you never will. Lawrence wide? Demetriou as a winger? Get a loanee in?
There's a good team here now, we know that. So it's frustrating to watch them fail to score in 3 games running.

I've a feeling that this season will be like the 2007 play off season---- we will be s**t away but very good at home, but get into the play offs a bit easier.the players are good enough but really need to dig deep away from home. Anyway this is just a gut feeling, and hope we go up automatic

JLAA one on one with the keeper in the first half. JLAA clearing the stand from two yards out in added time when it looked impossible to even get it over the bar.

Yep and their keeper made two superb saves low down too (one each half) - we had plenty of chances to have won that game.
