I wonder how people would have warmed to Bradshaw this season if he'd missed the chances Vernon has.
Currently our best team by form has a back 3 with Grandison in and Mangan up front.
Food for thought. Especially if you know a striker is going to get stuck in to you.

Going off topic slightly I have been well impressed with how Mangan has forced his way into the 1st XI. Vernon needs to step up and 'scr@p' with Mangan to show the manager why he was his original first choice striker.

This early in the season form can be irrelevant. For example we beat two very poor looking sides in Stanley and Luton and suddenly we look like a good side in form.
Without looking it up I don't know who Hartlepool have played, but for all we know they maybe top 7 sides come May. They maybe themselves.
Grandison like any other lower league defender has a mistake in him.
Personally I'm more concerned about the defence as unit and I have been since day one.

Personally I'm more concerned about the defence as unit and I have been since day one. Once again, I agree with this. There's something not "quite" right about our team's defending still, even though it's composed of good players. Hopefully it will come with time and familiarity. Up until yesterday, we've always looked like scoring, so conceding the odd goal hasn't been so much of a problem. However, it's increasingly looking like we aren't going to keep many clean sheets this season, which is a serious handicap to anyone wanting to get promoted.

I'd guess with Gayle going off injured yesterday he will be doubtful for Saturdays game at Stevenage, so imagine Grandison will start again
I still don't quite know how significant his injury was that kept him out for a year. To me it looks like he is still playing to protect that injury hence why he isn't on top form. Whether a run of games in the side will see him get back fit and the player he was I'm not sure.
Do prefer the 4.4.2 set up myself but don't think we have out and out full backs in the squad - hence us playing the wing back formation more regularly.

Grandison may get the nod at right back against Stevenage because of the extra physicality he offers against the usual Westley aerial bombardment. There doesn't seem too many other options if Gayle is injured although I did spot Macallister playing right back recently in training. Maybe the first reserve fixture this Tuesday will give us some clues.

6 games in, surely squad still bonding, convinced the best is still to come. 1 off day is unfortunate, 2 would put us temporarily out of touch.

No one who went can surely blame Grandison for the defeat , that was entirely a full team consequence. We were very poor by recent standards. However, the second goal killed us stone dead and there is no doubt at all that he made a complete schoolboy error in dealing with the initial situation. Very poor.

He played quite few games right mid for Sheffield United and dropping back to right back could be a good shout. Certainly can't see him getting in CM anyway. If an inexperienced rookie played out of position at RB (Woods) in League One then maybe Dav Mac could.

Full marks to Hartlepool for flying out of the blocks and doing what Luton failed to and got to grips with our formation. Our defence looked shakey and hesitant from the off with Ellis stuggling to adapt to playing in a three CB system.
Grandison didn't have the best of games and I'm not sure if he will be risked again in the wing back position. This is a big problem for MM if Gayle is out for a prolonged period and may force him back to a more conventional 4-4-2 formation.

We know you think the sun shines out of his rear end Paul. Opinions I guess. Bit of an uncalled for comment really. I like him as a player but am well aware of his weaknesses. To turn it around I sometimes think you can see no good in him at all as I can't remember you acknowledging when he's had a good game of which he has had many in a Town shirt. I didn't go today but from the radio it seemed like there were several players who passed the ball poorly. Just an observation Paul, no offence intended. I am the first to acknowledge that JG is a centre back and nothing else, but he makes too many mistakes, the kind that a pro footballer should not make no matter where he is on the pitch. Yesterday's error was a complete shocker, as was the needless penalty he gave Gillingham in the last minute a couple of years back. Also, who could forget him launching Jake Robinson onto the crowd at Torquay, earning himself a first half red card. I am not blaming him for the defeat yesterday, but his cock up away any chance of us pinching an undeserved point. I agree that Connor was decidedly shaky yesterday but thought that Ellis had a good game after a nervy start. For me, if we use three centre backs Ellis and NKP would have to start with Connor shading JG for the other slot. As for yesterday I would have preferred to see Clark used on the right as an old fashioned winger providing a better quality of cross for the strikers to feed off.

Ah, so is JG the new scape goat? No. That would be the goalkeeper according to the perceived experts yesterday.

Good to see our Champagne Socialist there yesterday even though he was extremely lucky not to have the entire length of my walking stick inserted deeply into his Wrexham
Would like to make it clear I am in no way making Leutwiler our new scapegoat, just expressing my opinion that I don't think, based on what I've seen so far, that he is much cop.
Judging by the chants of "Flinders for Shrewsbury"..... "Flinders is a proud Salopian" and "Roland, Roland sign him up" I could suggest I am not alone with that view.
Would be the first to concede though that those chants were probably just friendly banter with the Pools GK once the game was lost, but interesting just the same and if heard by JL would do little to bolster his already fragile confidence as I see it..........
Team game and Team yesterday were well poor and got exactly what they deserved for their combined efforts ie zippo...........

So far Leutwiler looks very much like a lower league David de Gea - excellent shot stopper but permanently rooted to his line and never commands his area. He is still young and has the frame to be more dominant; perhaps trying to be more aggressive and decisive a la Manuel Neuer would be a good start.

It's certainly possible, it is more a part of the English game than a lot of other countries. That said, I'd say the two most dominant keepers in the PL are both from mainland Europe - Szczesny and Begovic - whereas Shay Given was notoriously bad for being rooted to his line. As Begovic and Szczesny both spent time in England as academy players (I think), perhaps that helped?

Ok so the time of the offence was incorrect but I can see the tackle - reckless and unnecessary which, if they had scored could and probably would have changed the outcome of the game.

Apoligies for last Saturday Jamo, gotta admit I was out of order vocally giving Leitwiler stick like that, but a strong keeper at the back could be the difference between Promotion or another season in the basement, its early days and he will no doubt improve but he doesn't breed confidence for me and it looks he doesn't breed confidence for the back four in front of him either... still a inexperienced lad but would prefer a much more seasoned campaigner in goal if im honest.

Anyone there yesterday with an unbiased view of his performance, presumably playing at right back? From reports it seems like he may have been a threat at set pieces and going forward. How did Goldson and Ellis do at centre back?

He was excellent but will come up against tougher challenges I'm sure - plus playing four centre backs in defence was the sensible move against a physical Stevenage side.

Yesterday was actually one of our better defensive displays this season, and Grandison certainly played his part in that. Looks infinitely more comfortable at full back than he does at wing back.
