Caught with an old friend today who I'd not seen for many years. Anyway he keeps an eye on Cambridge as one his mates is a big Cambridge fan. Anyway his mate told him Salop aren't popular down there and amongst Cambridge fans. Apparently because in there relegation to the Conference season 04/5, we fielded a weakened side against a relegation rival once we were safe?

Conveniently forgetting that they fielded a weak side against the other 23 clubs during the season. They got what they deserved for being crap.

Think this all goes back to season 94/95.
*I may be wrong as it was longer than a week ago so its all a bit blurry*
The season had finished apart from bournemouth versus ourselves. I can't remember why we ended up playing after the season was done. Bournemouth needed a win to stay up and send Cambridge down instead. We fielded a weakened or unmotivated team and went 3 down early on and so it ended. And I remember a few of their lot taking delight in our relegation to the conference. Karma is a b***h.

Looking at the old Rothmans book we played Bournemouth on 2nd May and lost 3.0 but all the other final games took place on 6th May. Can't remember why we didn't play on the last day!
Looking at the side we played pretty much the same 11 as we did in the previous games, so we might have been demotivated but hardly a weak side.
Although we did seem to have played Darren Simpkin and Mark Hughes central defence so Cambridge might have a point

Ah maybe it wasn't the 04/5 season then. I just assumed it was.

Do all of the national newspaper, radio and tv journalists come from Cambridge as they don't seem to know of us or like us?

We fielded a weakened squad that day because we were pretty weak that season anyway.
Cambridge fans get a life.

Leeds fans had smashed up Bournemouth on a Bank Holiday weekend . It meant for years the Police wouldn't let Bournemouth play any Bank Holiday games at all. Meant we had to play on 2nd January one year due to it. Remember the 94/95 game well. Bournemouth made it all ticket for home fanes which sold out but not for us. Moved us to the stand and gave us 200 tickets which meant some home fans in with us and some Town fans locked out. Had some Plymouth fans in with us as they were in the mix as well. Remember apologising to them even before the team was announced because we knew we were going to get thrashed. Bournemouth had won 6 and drawn 1 of their last 7 home games. We had only won once away from home since 10th December which was at Cardiff who we all know are s**t. Also we had only won 3 of our last 14 games so were never going to win. Seem to remember sitting near Bellevue Shrew who managed to annoy the Bournemouth fans in with us by singing for the whole of the second half. They were politely told what did they expect if they sat in the away end!!!!!

When will the "Birthplace of Darwin" signs be getting replaced with "Not popular in Cambridge"?

It's just nice to know somebody outside shropshire actually knows about us
I was coming through departures on the way home from India 3 years ago, and was taken aback when I was asked, "What football team do you support?"
I said, "I doubt you've heard of them, it's Shrewsbury".
I was even more surprised when he said, "Yes, I've heard of Shrewsbury". He even knew what league we were in.
