Slightly rusty but class is there

I thought he was class. It was another brave call by Mellon and he got it spot on. Lawrence provided that bit of know how, class and experience and I think he'll be a key player as the season progresses. To have options such as Woods, Wildig, Robinson and even D-Mac available to us in the middle of the park is a seriously good prospect.

Yeah, you can see there's a real good player there but only 'slightly' rusty!!??
He seemed to put us in trouble quite often, firing return passes back to players with a man on them or just expecting someone to be there and passing blind... Perhaps he needs to adjust to slightly less skilled team mates??
Against a better side he may have been shown up... Or perhaps he would of played better himself??
I suppose this was his first competitive outing for a while, he'll pick it up I'm sure.

Strolled it didn't he, but with how the game went, was there any need for him to step it up? He does the simple short pass, doesn't force it and keeps possession. The only time that became a risk was when he was in our own box and it needed to be cleared.

Don't know how many corners we had tonight . Over the last few years I have been angered at our corner takers for failing to beat the first man . In Liam Lawrence we have a player who knows how to take set pieces !! He gets them bang on the money every time . Also thought he had a decent game in general without breaking a sweat .

Yea bobby, I agree on the set pieces being quality!! And he was talking to the players and organising them throughout, so very good on that front too.

Played in exactly the same style as Woods, on Saturday, and Woods was dropped for tonight's game?

Played in exactly the same style as Woods, on Saturday, and Woods was dropped for tonight's game? I doubt Woods was dropped for playing badly?? More likely rested for upcoming games, his passing was excellent tonight as soon as he came on.

Class act.
Controlled the tempo. May have put us in trouble a couple of times but if he's willing to put his foot on it and pull the strings I'll take that at the moment as I can imagine he will just get better. Has the full range of passing as well as a bit of quality from set pieces too.
Pretty sure some people won't rate him but that's because he's a) keeping Woods out the team and b) isn't all action like players of Weso's ilk. Players like him often don't get the credit they deserve.

Played in exactly the same style as Woods, on Saturday, and Woods was dropped for tonight's game? i think he was rested . We have 3 excellent centre mids , so I think if they all stay fit they are going to be rotated all season. From what I have seen of all 3 of them it is a tough decision who to play.

Tiny bit off the pace at times and a little slow getting the ball out of his feet but that's to be expected after a few weeks injured, and will soon get on the pace of things when training and playing full time
Big plus point was that even not being 100% you could see a good player at work and good to see him telling players where to move to and generally marshalling the troops.
Not totally sure what position he is best in but on initial viewing looks like he can play across midfield which is great versatility to have

His range of passing was excellent, and he never stopped barking instructions at people. His performance was perhaps a little pedestrian, but then with that Rottweiler Wegolowski alongside you then you'll rarely need to sweat blood yourself.
The perfect match to play him in.
When it's all kicking off in a high pressure game he has the stature to really hold things together, and a bit of class to unlock a defence at any time.

Lawrence is a good player, I,m not saying he's not.Thought last night he did o.k. without standing out, and that he plays in virtually the same fashion as Woods. I agree that it is more a case of rotation that Woods being dropped. The player for me last night was Robinson when he came on. His movement, and passing was superb, but because of his age I think he will be used off the bench as an impact player. When he gets introduced against a tiring team he will cause massive problems.

Definitely showed some nice touches at times but also caught on the ball on the odd occasion, one being late in the second half where he gave away a free kick on the edge of the area trying to win the ball back.
Can clearly see glimpses of quality but rustiness was also clearly seen. Nice to have someone with that ability though

I wasn't at the match so I couldn't comment, however, what I will say is that I don't really want to see Mike Wesowski and Ryan Woods playing in the same team. I always believe that one of the midfielders should be slightly more advanced than the others.

Lawrence gave a slightly disapproving look at the west stand when he was heckled by a few for passing backwards!! Bare in mind we were four nil up at the time.

Bloke sat in front of me was booing when the ball went backwards, whilst we were 4-0 up. I really don't understand the mentality of the 'Get it Forwards' brigade, they would rather an aimless (or high risk) ball forwards rather than keeping the possession.

He'll need a few assists and goals to shut the moaners up.

We will know when Lawrence is up to speed when he finds that little bit of extra space on the ball, a trait of Class players. Mellon brought the players into this club to play as one unit. To say that Lawrence might 'drop' his game to facilitate lessor individuals on the field defeats the object. If players cannot be in the right place, in other words play at the right level, I think you will find the player being replaced.
Hmmmmm ......hell of a side we have got !

Trouble is that he doesn't know how awful it was last season with the back passing. Anyone who wasn't here couldn't possibly imagine it. Perhaps Connor or Woodsy could tell him for us.

I could understand if we were struggling for an equaliser/winner or the game had been dire. People want there money's worth and want to be entertained. But we were 4 nil up ffs!! Can't please everyone is suppose.

Yep think it will take a few games for us all to realise a pass back towards our defence is not going to result in the epic failures it did last season! Should imagine Lawrence was also a little surprised we celebrated getting a penalty with ten minutes standing ovation a little strange too but he'll get used to our odd ways soon

Perhaps we should have a Q and A session with him except he asks the questions and we give the answers!
