That's so chuffing annoying. Hundreds of spaces sat idle a few hundred yards away.

Very thoughtful of them with all the roadworks going on. Wouldn't do to think they might try to make life easier for anyone, would it?

I got stuck in their 'improvements' for nearly 20 mins on Saturday and missed the first few mins of the game, ridiculous what they've done to the island between Welti/The Shrewsbury Gym and M54... 20mins crawling along just to 'filter' around it.. doesn't sound a lot, but it is when the whole journey should take under 10!! (oh well at least I was there for Mellon time!) ...
So not impressed with them at all of late!!!

If anyone is coming from the Hanwood direction, you can park in the village and catch the A488 funbus. £3.00 adults, £2.00 Juniors. PM me for details.

I thought that one of the main council reasons for no parking at the club on matchdays or indeed in the nearby vicinity, was to encourage the use of using public transport ? And then they don't provide the public transport !
Surely the club can call that ruling into question now ?
It would definitely improve gates IMO if people could park on the streets close to the ground and this stinks of the council not sticking to their side of the bargain. How much money will the club lose on future midweek nights if people think there's not going to be any public transport direct to the ground ?

I find it strange that said Council will not allow street parking for a couple of hours for people attending a match, but parents on the school run can park illegally on pavements and on bends and junctions , 2 and sometimes 4 times a day, often even blocking people's drives. Add these waiting times together and it equates to more than 2 hours a fortnight. Football fans treated shoddily - what's new?

There was never any agreement that the Council would provide public transport to the ground. When planning permission was granted the club signed up to what's called a 106 agreement saying they would subsidise buses and other forms of transport to the site. Any decline in buses to the ground is down to the club I'm afraid nothing to do with the Council Similarly the residents only parking is a national policy, allowing residents to get together and petition the Council asking for residents only zones. As long as a majority who vote approve it goes through.

Plenty of away fans parked there last season too, never saw any trouble at all.... Where do they park when they come here?? If you have ever parked up there you will know just how many cars we are talking about... It could potentially dent attendances I suppose? I notice plenty of cars parking at Sutton Farm when the Church is on (Greek Orthodox I think?) ... What's the difference! Maybe they should be banned too!?

that will impact gates - plenty of people park there for evening games. (me included) and i was done a few years ago for illegally parking on the grass on the approach road

Regarding public transport. I'd have no issue using it at the weekend, but evening matches are different. By the time I've finished work and driven back to Salop there isn't time to get on a bus etc.. It's all a bit of a rush job for me and I bet I'm not the only one???

This would be bad news if permanently shut for midweek games. We must already be the least accommodating club in the country for fans driving to the game.
Ive previously read that the council were happy to offer this facility. Maybe they have had a claim from someone suffering an injury up there, and no longer wish to expose themselves to the risk.

Think it's more that there are strict planning rules governing the park and ride the council have to stick to. Sites such as that get lower rate values as park and ride sites and should only be used for that purpose i.e. reducing traffic going into town Using them for other purposes might be problematic. Don't know this for sure but that's the most likely explanation Technically I imagine there is more than enough parking spaces at the designated parking sites round the ground for a game like Accrington so no need to open an extra site. The stumbling block is more people don't like the charges at the Brooklands, garage etc

However since the majority of those using the park and ride parking facility for night games already pay the council community charge, a bit of goodwill by keeping it open wouldn't really go amiss would it? This bunch really know how to shoot themselves in the foot when it comes to goodwill!!!

Our cash-strapped council's missing a trick here at £5 a car. OK, if there are planning rules they have to stick to, how come it's been made available for use for evening games in the past? The council doesn't seem to want to help the football club whilst bending over backwards for more "genteel" events like the Flower Show. A successful football club will help put the town in the limelight more than an once in a year event.

What do they care about goodwill - how likely is it that anyone can do anything about it? Not very, so they're not bothered.

Is this the P&R just south off the nearby retail park? We normally park there when we come across. Daft decision to close it if it is that one. Would like to understand the reasoning behind it. What is the difference to using that P&R and walking to the ground to using another and getting to the stadium by bus? Or are we talking about another?

I would still love someone to challenge this legally, it does not bother me to much, but just makes me laugh, but reckon it is fundamentally flawed.

I tweeted Shropshire Council and they have said the closure is a joint decision between STFC and them and a meeting will be held in the future to discuss it further.

Perhaps the council wanted to charge the club for the 'free' use by fans!!

Perhaps the council wanted to charge the club for the 'free' use by fans!! Perhaps. And who could blame them, lets just hope they have reasonable prices in mind if this turns out to be the case. maybe they could blow the money on having a few more flower pots etc in town for a couple of weeks in summer, then make it as difficult as they can for people trying to get into town to see them by cocking up all the roads and over charging for parking... or perhaps they could use the revenue to extend the theatre so it has enough seats to attract decent performers??? ... Add £5 parking to the price of a ticket and it's STFC losing out as people are already moaning about the cost of going to the games..

The council could use the extra dosh to build another slinky to pull in thousands of extra visitors to our town, Pillocks.
