And can't believe some of the comments in the match thread! For me it was a fully deserved win, how many saves did Lutweiler make!? Zero possibly?
Good to see at 1-1 in the 90th the whole team were after the winner and Tranmere folded.
I would say we were far too pedestrian at time with sideways passing and little penetration. Collins and Vernon anonymous for the majority
Mellon got his subs spot on but anyone could see they had to be made. Akpa-Akpro MOTM for his 20 minute spell. The long ball tactic to him won us the game for me
Great effort from the lads, the never say die attitude at home coming back hopefully

Did I see a different game, I thought we played an early 'get out of jail card' We bossed most areas but needed more pace and to switch the play quicker.

While it was great we won the game I was pretty disappointed by my first view of the new team to be honest
Looked at times like we played three separate units of defence, midfield and attack with little flow between the three areas. Midfield too got bossed out of it for long periods of the game as a result there were too many long balls down the throats of the Tranmere back four
Think Knight Percivel was very lucky to stay on for the challenge on the Tranmere winger and it was only when he went off we got back in the game.
Great we pulled the win out of the bag at the end, and having subs to come on and change it makes a massive difference, but overall left feeling there is much work still to do to turn us into promotion contenders.
Keeper looks well flappy too

I can't recall Fon Williams having to make a save 2nd half till 86th minute, and thought we were a little bit flat and pedestrian, would have no complaints about a draw, and enjoyed giving FW a bit of stick when the 2nd went in!! Delighted with the result and tough s**t to Tranmere

I totally agree that it was great to see us absolutely steamroller them after scoring the first.
None of this take the point stuff, it was make the point!
The fightback has begun!

And it's worth mentioning that Connor Goldson is an absolute Rolls Royce of a young player.

Tuesdays performance was better but today was no means a disgrace. Tranmere did have limited chances and in the second half Goldson should have scored with that header and arguably Akpa-Akpro's chance which the keeper saved. We hammered them last 15 mins, was no surprise we scored but to score 2 in injury time was just mental.
What a good morale boosting win. Hopefully a win v Accrington and will be 3 wins in 3.

www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/28716824BBC stats, no idea if these are remotely accurate mind. I just think of the Collins shot off the line, Goldson header wide, Vernon shot saved, several others in the 2nd half saved, compared to zero threat from Tranmere 2nd half. Agree about the tackle from NKP, looked a horrific challenge, but the ref was inconsistent and generally naff throughout imo

After last seasons dross, we played well considering they won't be at full throttle for a few games, the average age of the midfield and defence is the lowest we have prob ever had, Williams made at least 3 saves before we gave him no chance with the goals. I can't remember Leutmiler having to make a single save second half, we were the ones to have been mugged if we had come away with nil points!

I felt like we were in control of the game today.
We went 1-0 down but Tranmere didn't seem a threat at all.
I can only recall Leutwiler making a very good save early on in the game.
Akpa-Akpro was brilliant when he came on, great in the air and had some good touches.
Wesolowski and Goldson were the stand out players for me. Wesolowski seemed to be everywhere on the pitch and Goldson had an absolute blinder.
My ratings would be:
Leutwiler 6 - Did what he had to, made a decent save and handling seemed good. Gayle 7 - Good defensively and put in a few decent balls for us today. Goldson 9 - Hardly put a foot wrong all game and did everything so well. Knight-Percival 7 - Always playing out from the back and dealt with everything. Quite lucky to stay on the pitch. Demteriou 7 - Reminds me a bit of Matt Sadler e.g Not very pacy but pretty solid. Put in a few good balls and got the winner so gets an extra mark.
Vincent 5 - Pretty anonymous until he got substituted. Woods 7 - Pretty quiet today but played some lovely balls and was all round very good. Wesolowski 8 - He seemed to be everywhere on the pitch today and managed to get us the ball back so many times. Also pretty decent with the ball at his feet. Clark 6 - Quiet game but had a couple of good dribbles.
Collins 5 - Didn't do anything and then got substituted. Vernon 5 - Like Collins and had some pretty poor touches.
Subs Caton 6 - Looks a good prospect Akpa Akpro 7 - Only on for 16 minutes but was extremely good. Won a lot in the air and was good with the ball on the deck. Mangan 7 - Scored and got an assist, great impact.

For me players are all working very hard for each other, no one is letting the standards drop. Collins looked off colour today as did Vernon but what a strong bench we have nowadays and lawrance to come back. Exciting times to be a Town fan.

Yes we were lucky to come away with the three points and I would have settled for a point with 15 minutes to go. Like others I was impressed with the attitude directly after Mangan grabbed the equaliser, the players were eager to get the game going again as soon as possible and that enthusiasm paid off.
Whether we deserved to win or not is a moot point but what I do know is that out of the two teams we were the only team that did enough to win (if that makes sense.) I guess that we are going to see a lot of teams come to GM this season and do exactly what Tranmere did, one up front and try and notch a goal on the break, then sit deep and defend what they had. The only save Leutwiler had to make in the second half was a tame header and they created very little in the first half. I do feel that we made their task more straightforward than it should have been as both of our central midfielders appeared to play holding roles and neither showed too much inclination to get forward. Maybe this is how they have been told to play or maybe I have just read it wrong but I believe that we will be in for a similar game on Tuesday and need to find a way to combat two ranks of four (or four and five) defending for their lives

That never say DIE attitude will earn points as the season goes on! KP must be a mate of the ref. worst tackle I've seen in a long while. High and late.

When teams set out do what Tranmere tried to do today, i.e. play extremely conservatively and nick a win on the break, you have to take your hat off and say they earned the win when it works, but it's hard to have much sympathy when it doesn't. A draw was the least we deserved from that, although the win has to be considered somewhat fortuitous in the circumstances.
Nevertheless, although my memory of league 2 isn't as fresh as it used to be, Tranmere looked better than what I remember most sides at this level being, so if we can break them down we can probably do the same to plenty of others. They were certainly extremely well organised.
It would have been a very different game had NKP walked for that tackle. It was right in front of me, so I had a pretty good view. He did go for the ball, but missed completely. I think the fact that he made most of the contact with his body rather than his studs probably saved him, but they were definitely showing.

Think slack bladders point about the midfield is good. Needs to be a bit more forward movement from one of them the link up with the front too.
Perhaps that's more a role Lawrence has played in pre season and was a little lacking today? especially as the wide players didn't seem to get past their men much either

Good point Slackbladder about our 2 midfield players not getting forward. Akpra Akpro and Mangan must have a major shout for starting against Accrington after poor perfomances from Vincent and Vernon. Think we needed that bit of extra pace today. I do like Woods and Wes playing together we just needed that pace and movement that the subs gave us when they came on.

Deserved it IMO by being less bad, Tranmere had 2 shots. Ref was poor - we had 2 stonewall penalties rejected (handball and Clark shirt pull), NKP should possibly have gone and he didn't get a handle on Tranmere's time wasting (although it benefitted us in the end). They came for a point and nearly stumbled into all 3.
We were clearly not entirely functional as a unit, but some hoofing won us the game and the result is all the matters early on. Hopefully the team will gel and performances improve over time.
Spot on subs.

Don't like Vincent. Poor mans mark wright at best! Give Caton a chance he seems hungry to be on the pitch. Other than that thought we were solid and tranmere will struggle to go back up on today's performance

Most seem to overlook him for some reason

And can't believe some of the comments in the match thread! For me it was a fully deserved win Valerioch hits the nail on the head. Some of the comments on the match thread are absolutely mystifying. We were by far the better team and had the lion's share of the possession , a point was the least we deserved. I wasn't bothered going down 1-0 at the interval as I was confident with our quality we would get back in the game even if we did leave it very, very late. So not so much Tranmere being mugged. It would have felt we had been mugged if it wasn't for the late fightback. After Collo's and Vernons heroics in the first two games, together they had an off day today. One will have to give way to Mangan on tuesday evening unless MM starts with team that finished todays game

It was a poor scrappy game between two ordinary sides.
Pumping diagonal balls up to five men in a row will only work occasionally. It’s the sort of percentage football GP got slaughtered for.
The irony is that the goals came about from some decent movement, working some space and exploiting it.
Still a win is a win, we can improve (I hope) but we look a long way from a top 3 side at the moment.

Problem today was Woodsy 86mins to take the ball with him and when he did we finished them off. Seemed far to deep why not let Conner bring the ball out he seems far better which would allow Woodsy to get further up the pitch. Wesoloski is far to good for this league the Pirlo of league 2 I heard some chap mention I tend to agree. JLAA played his best game so far even if it was 20 mins very influential in that final push. MOTM goes to Demetriou what a debut his reading of the game was very good seemed to know a second or 2 a head of play on a few occasions. Next up ACCY would like to see Wildig or Lawrence come in for Woods and may be give Mangan a run out saving the freshness of Collins or Vernon.
