...so said the Chief Executive on the beer terrace of The Boathouse tonight. We lost 500k the year before last, 500k last year and we're On target to lose 400k this season, even if gates break even. We desperately need a cup run ( good luck with that Matt!- my thoughts at the time ) Granted he wasn't actually talking to me when he said it but seeing as I was at the next table I thought it rude not to listen. I will fund a one way air ticket

Every 4 years just before the World Cup when we are all excited and buzzin for it too start. A newspaper, usually The Sun front pages a negative story about the squad/FA, something they've been up to and then it has to be addressed by the FA in a press conference, rather than positive build up to the tournament being talked about. It really p**ses me off!
I liken this to that! I always ask why? The Sun, any need? I'm thinking the same about this...
Having said that I tend to believe what The Sun says with great caution anyway.

The danger for the poster putting this sort of thing on line, is that as a result of it if everything goes pear shaped then the poster could leave themselves vunerable to possible legal action.
Personally if i was the poster i would remove the thread.

Beer and gossip........ CEO should know better although I would imagine its a mixture of truth, posturing and a bit of bulls**t thrown in! In a nutshell Fred. Beer has a bad habit of loosening ones tongue, improving one,s hearing, and tilting one,s moral compass. ****in' hell, that's a bit deep from me, think I'll have a lie down.

I'd say this thread is more damaging than the overhead conversation. No point deleting the thread now, it's like deleting a tweet after it's been retweeted

Not being funny, but that was usual local radio rubbish. The last question was about as daft an interaction as you'll ever listen to, widely derided on here at the time. Context is everything. I obviously don't think that this is a particularly savoury situation, and it's definitely a learning curve, but I'd imagine if any of us were overheard talking about our employer then we'd be on a disciplinary. Because when you're having a rant amongst friends it's always that much more dramatic and for effect rather than a reasoned critique of the situation. As ever Dave, you have summed up exactly my thoughts on the matter. However, I also suspect that our new Chief Exec still has to adjust to life in Shrewsbury as a Town supporter. No doubt you could go out in Blackpool quite easily and be nearly one hundred per cent certain that whoever was at the next table would be a visitor with absolutely no interest in your conversation at all. So Matt that is your first lesson, nine times out of ten you will be near people with an interest in the Club, if not passionate supporters. Because that's what we are - passionate about our club. As you yourself said on the radio we are the only professional league club in shropshire and most of us are needing a real boost after last season so cut the gossip and get on with sorting it!!!

As an exile I'm sure I'm not alone in appreciating TWOTs and other gossip that others share on here. But posting without naming names seems fairer to a chap who was only having a pint (and wasn't actually talking to you) and would actually mean you could have shared more of the interesting stuff as gossip!
Just seems a bit rude and unfair but maybe I'm too moral!

Refreshing honesty.
Its clear we're going all out for promotion this year, reminds me very much of the cash given to Simpson in the pursuit of League 1, lets just hope Mellon and the lads are up to the task.
As for the radio, its clear that the media in this county, (barring a few exceptions) are simply not up to it.
He was out for a pint and was speaking his mind, do you expect him to wear a muzzle every time hes not on official STFC business.

Where are the losses coming from? The league rules stipulate that Transfer and Wages are to be up to about 60% of turnover. If I was him and was aware of an ''Eavesdropper''I would be tempted to have a laugh perhaps name dropping a few player's names. Anyway I may pop to the Boathouse this evening and have a loud chat about having the Biggest Penis in Town.
Although It would be hard to convince considering the amount of Dickheads around.

Maybe his "we've got to go up" comment is based around his own job security with the club rather than anything disastrous to us if we don't.
Disaster for him personally maybe ?
Looks like there might have been a pincer attack with MM on Rolands wallet. No doubt RW will have slipped it into the small print of their contracts that they've got to pay it all back if they cock it up. I hope they've checked it closely.

I thought it had been said in the past that promotion was worth next to nothing? Like just 60 grand more or something.. Or maybe I dreamt it..

For the club's development, yes we have to get promoted back to L1 ASAP. But financially, surely it's only worthwhile if we can compete in the higher division with some entertaining football and also take advantage of the higher away followings from local/bigger clubs. The extra 100 odd k from TV money will soon get eaten up if we struggled again and lost a few hundred home fans (which was the case last season)

The fans probably thought it was vital we didn't get relegated last season - Keep up Shrewsbury Town.

I'm beginning to have concerns about MW. This and his arbitrary decision to ditch Open Day are examples.
Hope I'm wrong, but I'm reserving judgement. RW hasn't had the best record of appointments in the past.
