Have to trust MM on this one. I don't know him, and have only heard the stories. MM obviously knows him better than we all do,so we have to respect his judgement on this one....

1 year deal to prove himself sounds fair given his issues. Fresh slate good luck and welcome aboard.

"FGR would like to thank Mangan's new club Shrewsbury Town for their contribution to the deal"
Looks like we contributed to his contract being paid off at FGR, which is interesting.
That quote is from the FGR end of things for clarity.

Seems a little strange paying a fee for a player reputed to be on ÂŁ100k a year with a 3 year contract so we must be talking 10's of thousands yet a 1 year deal so IF he does come good, at the end of the year we could loose him for nothing ?

As well as his betting I've heard from a couple of sources that he's got an ego like you wouldn't believe and has been a touch disruptive at previous clubs in the dressing room/training pitch etc.
That could all be a load of rubbish but MM has managed him before so not worried by those types of rumour.
MMs' happy with his DNA that's what matters........

That's our wild card pick for the season then.
Let's hope it is a Lee Trundle style stroke of genius to get a flair player to perform.

I can see him getting on well with Collins, not! How do you assume this ? Just my opinion, we're forgetting Collins dump't us for Swindon without a backwards glance and with 4 strikers competing for places I can see some fierce rivalry.... Just adding 2+2 and making 5 but time will tell

Now it is clear that we have paid money for him (maybe not in tranfer fee but in helping FGR pay him out of a very pricey contract) I'm even more confused by this signing.
If he has great potential to displace Collins / Akpro / Vernon then why only for a year ? On the other hand, if he is our "wild card gamble" then why are we paying money when there are many "gambles" out there for free and are not 27 years old with a track record of problems and an evident feeling that they deserve a higher wage than a bright young talent who has less potential for negative impact if the gamble doesn't pay off.

Like Percy, I don't really get this signing. Hope I'm wrong naturally, but paying a fee for someone of his recent past (and recent lack of goals) seems quite peculiar, unless MM knows something we all don't. It's the only signing that I would openly question though, so can't complain I suppose so long as the money side makes sense to Roland and the accountant.

I read, a little while back, that he is an out and out goal poacher,a "fox in the box", a lower league Lineker or Ian Rush, so I can imagine what he brings to the squad is that he is different to our other strikers and would probably work well coming off the bench if we are struggling to break a defence down

I'd have preferred the final slot going to a young lad with potential but I hope he does well.
Its worth taking the FGR statement with a pinch of salt, they are trying to save face after failing to sack him then paying him off. Our 'contribution' to the settlement could simply be his salary meaning that FGR have less to pick up. The reality is probably that FGR have taken a fair hit, the player may have taken a hit to get his career on track again and we've made up the slack in salary.
Spent 5 mins on Google and while he's clearly got a bad boy tag it's interesting how Morrell says he's the sort of character every dressing room needs while he is also referred to in reports a likable, popular and epervesant! So while he's got himself in trouble he's not necessarily a 'bad egg' who will upset the squad.

Mellon has been dishing out 2/3 year contracts, some to players who are over 30.
This year long contract is probably Mangan’s last chance to make it in league football. I wonder if there is a clause for another year if he performs/behaves/scores/makes appearances.

seems like a nice lad and he will keep the likes of Collins,Vernon and Akpa-Akpro on their toes. I understand Luton were in for him at one point too.
We could have got a young striker to come in but our recent record hasn't been great e.g Doble and Marsden.

Agree seems a nice lad. Let's hope for his and our sakes he can put the past behind him and rebuild his career. He seems a very young 27 year old in that interview perhaps he is someone who is easily led in the wrong company. We trust MM to sort him out.
