Following passage from last nights Star following Telford's 3-1 defeat at Witton Albion in a friendly.
Watson singled out Andy Owens for criticism after two goals from captain Michael Powell and a strike from Danny Andrews, Sean Clancy pulling one back.
The Bucks chief said: “He was at fault for all three goals, although he seemed to have an excuse for each one. For the first, he was weak in going down under the faintest push from their player.
“His man scored from a set piece for the second and, after getting a roasting at half-time, he comes out and gets done again in about a minute.
“There was one instance in the first-half when he jumped out of a 70-30 tackle, which about summed it up. That’s the sort of reason why the result was what it was.”
Not convinced hammering one of your players publicly a few weeks before the season will do an awful lot for his confidence but there you go. Hardly surprising the bloke has never ventured out of non-league in any capacity and more than likely never will.
What is it with Telford and appointing these full of themselves yet achieved absolutely nothing in football, big I am's like Watson and Smith, Cooper before him?
However diabolical we were last season and for all his imperfections, I don't recall Turner ever publicly lynching an individual like this and certainly not for the heinous crime of poor defending in a nothing pre-season friendly. I'd like to think Mellon has more class too.

Liam Watson seems the ideal manager for Telford. No problem with him at all. Keep it up Liam.

In all fairness Smith and Watson are great non league managers, they both have got and continue to get the best out of ordinary players on a very tight budget.

He did it all last season. They got promoted . That's the problem these days . If you get asked about a player having a bad game and make up some nonsense you get slated . He says exactly what he's thinking , and gets slated .

A lot depends on the player, some people respond to a telling off and some respond to a arm around the shoulder. Either way a risky management style.

Amazed at how bad a pre season Watson eems to be having. They seemed to play class opposition in psf's right at the start and end up with demorallising results. MM seemed to have a plan, playing Chesterfield, who he wanted to model us on, getting in some higher league as we went on, then maybe a bit of spice with an England vs Scotland friendly

Our current manager cut his teeth at that level and it will be interesting to see how far Watson can take Telford. IMO he's a good manager and has certainly proved that at non-league level.

An interesting tactic to publicly criticise players, I suspect it will split fans with some agreeing that the player was poor and the manager was only saying what the fans were thinking. On the other hand some fans will think you shouldnt publicly criticise players.
But like most things peoples viewpoint depends on how the team is doing. The team has just been promoted so I suspect the majority will agree with him, if they are struggling in a few months time and he is publicly criticising players then I suspect they will say its out of order, deflecting attention away from him, blaming others etc.

Don't agree with everything he's said there . But , it is good to hear a manager unhappy one of his own players has fallen over to easily !!

Slagging him off in the dressing room is one thing but slagging him off in the press is something else. Comes across as a bully boy.

They seem to have a thing for managers with monotonous voices.
Having taken in a fair few matches in the Conference North last season, I didn't feel the standard was not as good as recent years, and Watson was often criticised by his own supporters at Telford and Southport before that for his style of football which could kindly be described as "utilitarian" or realistically as "'kin dreadful to watch". If (as I suspect) they become early contenders for relegation fodder I don't think it will take long for the tide to turn against him.

I guess there are many different styles of management. All work under certain circumstances.
